Where to begin? Mitch Farris and Bradley Blalock pitched today. Neither team has any hitters that ever faced their opposing pitcher.
The Strikeout Tracker:
KKKKKKKKKK
The Rockies went up by two in the bottom of the first but Christian Moore hit a two run homer in the top of the second to tie the game.
Two batters later, Denzer Guzman homered to make it 3-2 Angels.
Bryce Teodosio grounded out to end the top of the second. A Kyle Karros walk and Tyler Freeman single tied the game in the bottom of the second inning.
Nolan Schanuel singled to put a man on in front of Trout, who struckTroutTM. Yoan Moncada grounded into a double play to bring the Rockies back up. Blaine Crim almost homered but Teodosio robbed him.
The Angels go out of the inning without giving up any more runs.
Taylor Ward led off the fourth with a hit. Jo Adell also singled to put two men on in front of Christian Moore, who struck out. Logan O’Hoppe hit into a double play. The Rockies did nothing so the fourth inning was the second scoreless inning in a row.
Denzer Guzman walked to lead off the fifth inning. Bryce Teodosio singled up the middle to drive Guzman to third. Teodosio took second on the throw to third. Do see do your partner. Nolan Schanuel doubled to drive in two. Heck Yeah!
Mike Trout hit one to the warning track to deep center. It was good enough to get Schanuel to third. Yoan Moncada hit a sacrifice fly to score Schanuel. Now it was 6-3 Angels.
Taylor Ward struck out. For the Rockies, Tyler Freemen promptly singled. So did Mickey Moniak. Hunter Goodman walked and Blaine “Angus” Crim sacrificed in Freeman. Brenton Doyle doubled to tie the game. The Angels brought in the legendary Chase Silseth to pitch. He was promptly greeted by a stolen base by Brenton Doyle. Ezequiel Tovar hit a sacrifice fly to put the Rockies ahead 7-6.
After getting out of the fifth inning, the Angels were retired in order to start the sixth inning. Ryan Ritter singled. He stole second base. Tyler Freeman grounded out. Mickey Moniak popped out and Hunter Goodman struck out.
Denzer Guzman struck out to lead off the seventh inning. Bryce Teodocio struck out. Nolan Schanuel grounded out to first. Blaine Crim singled but the Rockies could do nothing with it.
Mike Trout grounded out. It appears number 400 won’t happen today. Jo Adell really got hosed on the second pitch of his at bat. They can’t eject me from a game. “You suck Ump. That pitch was low and away by over a foot.” When the Rockies came up They failed to score any more. The Angels faced a 7-6 deficit going into the top of the ninth inning.
Victor Vodnik came in to pitch. That guy should have a really big black Snidely Whiplash mustache and, of course, a coiled whip on his belt. Nya-A-Aah! Christian Moore flied out. Logan O’Hoppe singled to center. Denzer Guzman flied out. Luis Rengifo came in to hit for Bryce Teodosio. He got hit on the instep somehow that didn’t constitute a hit by pitch. He eventually struck out to end the game. The Angels lost by one run.

How to truly help this franchise for the future…..
Stay Away from Angel Stadium!!
If Neto signs an extension with this team he’s an idiot. I like Neto but if he signs with the Angels for any longer than he has to be, he deserves all the losing seasons he gets. Take a look at Mike Trout. Wasted his career. Took the payday, and got trolled by Arte saying he would field a competitive team but never doing it.
I have concerns about him staying on the field and, there is no reason to spend any money until you have to in addition to the fact that even though he’s our best player, he is not elite.
huh? He’s at 10 WAR combined the last two seasons. That’s pretty elite man.
He’s not even an Allstar. He’s a very good player but in my opinion he is not elite, and certainly not as a hitter, nor as a defender when you compare him to the other guys.
He’s 9th in the AL alone as a hitter via OPS for SS and he’s 4th in total WAR. In my opinion that’s very good but not elite.
Thanks for the Bugs Bunny clip, loved it. That is my favorite Bugs Bunny episode. “Baseball Bugs”
You guys are welcome. I am trying pretty hard to make this poop show interesting.
If 10 years of failure doesn’t wake up this hapless franchise, perhaps nothing will. The stretch in the 70′, ’71 to ’77, losing seasons all, were painful, but at least they had looking forward to Ryan and Tanana every fourth day, and the anticipation of pitching excellence.
If there were losing seasons but a farm season that was top 5 in mlb to anticipate future excellence, it would be sort of acceptable, but a bottom farm system, fading and injured budget devouring “stars” and failed and no deadline trades is complete incompetence.
The A’s just blew by our bumpkins, have a great farm system, $75 million payroll, great young players on their roster and a new stadium in a couple of years.
Only hope is a franchise sale and then getting lucky on a great owner. The only chance of that is to convince Arte that this is an awful business to be in. My opinion- stay away from Angel Stadium. Stop giving Arte money. It’s the only chance to save this Org.
It’s actually more than a decade of abject failure. The logical conclusion based on the data is “nothing will wake up this hapless franchise”.
Old stubborn rich guys are the bane of pro sports teams. Still believe he’s going to sell and just hand over running the team to his wife and Carpino. See you later Austin, Memphis or Charlotte Angels.
A Cinderella game for Kershaw last night with a big HR from our old friend Ohtani. Another 50+ hr season, while zero with us. But of course he would be better for them, while our loyal MVP Trout looking like a Chris Davis drop off. Sure Arte is a bad owner and Perry sucks, but there is just a bad Karma around this team that I feel started with Josh Hamilton signing.
Karma and juju are not a thing. They’re just copes.
Other teams have expensive dead weight contracts too. In the Dodgers case, they haven’t gotten a lot out of some serious earners this season and yet will still win their division. The difference is they have homegrown depth, more productive role players and superior scouting/analytics/whatever you want to call it which is why Shohei has hit 50 HR in his first 2 seasons there and played more games than he did in Anaheim.
Its Moreno and Carpino. And only one has the ability to fire the other so its Moreno. Every trade deadline is the same. Every draft is the same. Every offseason is the same. Even the marketing and radio commercials have been static since like 2006. So the results are the same.
Name me any other business in the world where the product is an industry-bottom feeder and nobody considers a change in executive leadership? Starbucks and Disney and Uber all get new execs when things aren’t working. Lets say hypothetically Arte isn’t the problem — then John Carpino absolutely is for overseeing this mess with little to no change philosophically. The fact he hasn’t been axed is because Arte is the problem.
Even without all the other stuff you mention, If Arte simply hired a real qualified GM and gave him a budget and let him do his job we would be far better off. It ultimately is still Arte because he does the hiring.
Back-to-back-to-back…Arte has hired rookie GMs. Perhaps this is due to the fact no seasoned veteran GM would sign up under the teams FO structure.. Not sure but we know what we have now is not working.
Arte is a known quantity and he’s not going to change. Jedi is a good GM and he had to flee when it became clear Arte would not let him run baseball operations without interference.
Those at the top of their profession are not going to take a job while Arte is the owner.
Excellent points all.
Or started with the Vernone Wells trade. One of the most egregious, idiotic trades, ever.
GMJ and Vernon inaugurated the owner-intervention era where players are assessed based on highlight reels from 1-3 yrs ago, not on projections of what the same players are likely to do 1-3 years hence.
It all started when Arte wanted to save money and thought lets do something literally no winning team has ever done, lets put an intern in control of the team, pay him way less than a legit GM and then let’s let the manager give ideas on who he should acquire.
I remember seeing Carlton one day at the ARCO on Katella and State College, filling up his Mercedes, or was it Arte’s? Hmmmm?
Boooooooooooooooooooooo!
KC wins a close one, 20-1.
Tyler Heineman, a catcher, pitched 1 1/3, giving up 10 runs on 13 hits. Stupid rule to allow that.
Now 4.5 behind the homeless A’s. Whats the magic number for our boys to clinch last place?
Yes. The answer is Yes.
5, the answer is 5
So any combination of 5 wins by the A’s or losses by the Angels
Appropriate it will happen at the Big K, in front of a smattering of followers. Perhaps our man will get #400 in same game.
I hope they seal last place on Tuesday when I’m at the game. Maybe, just maybe that will be the wake up call to jettison the hitting coaches, the rest of Washington’s crew, investing in scouting, etc. oh, and actually trading players at the trade deadline for top rated prospect. Kenley could have definitely netted something to a playoff bound team, including the Dodgers whose bullpen has been exposed.
There will never be a wake up call.
