Second Game Victory Postgame

Nothing much happened in the first four innings except some lobsters. Jo Adell led off the fifth inning by getting an infield hit and an injury to the left quad. He left the game.

Kyren Paris came in to run, and run he did. He stole his first base of the year. He had a great view from second base while Nolan Schanuel struck out to end the inning.

Kyren Paris stayed in the game to play center field.

Yoan Moncada was boom or bust on the bunts and infield dribblers. The Angels hit into a lot of double plays.

In the eighth inning Mike Clevinger came in to pitch against the heart of the Angels order. He retired Schanuel and Mike Trout easily enough. He walked Soler on four pitches. Soler made it to third on a really wild pitch. Yoan Moncada got him home on an infield single. 1-0 Angels.

Ben Joyce came in to pitch the eighth inning. He walked Matt Thaiss and sent his pinch runner to second with a wild pitch. He did get out of the inning without giving up a run. After the Angels went three up three down, Kenley Jansen came in to pitch the ninth. He was effective and the Angels shut out the White Sox 1-0.

We should be able to get the game in after a rain delay. How many ABs does Rengifo need before he’s rightfully slotted in the 2nd spot?

Ultimately I would like to see both Paris and Rengifo Higher up in the line up.

You don’t like Schanuel even tho he’s proven himself at the MLB level over 700+ PAs, however you want to move Paris up because why ?

You’re the one who just said you wanted to replace Schanuel with Rengifo. All I said was that I wanted to see Paris hit higher in the line up. It was ST, but he did out hit everyone else on the team to the tune of .400 with Xtra Base hits. Schanuel’s 700+ ABs last year only proved he was a .250 hitter. At this point, there is nothing to lose by seeing what Paris can do and should he fail, we learn something at no cost, and if he succeeds, we discover something good. All I said was that I would like to see him higher than 9th. If itt was up to me, I would try Rengifo and Paris at the top of the line up and drop Ward to 5th where no one has been hitting in a lot of RBI situations. I know Ward has been our best hitter so far and doing a great job in the leadoff spot. We have nothing to lose by trying something different than we have for the last two weeks, ST or not. Our offense has been very inconsistent. Let’s quit pretending we’re competing for something and see if we can discover something useful going forward. Let’s find out if Paris is real or not so that we can move forward with knowledge. You could leave him 9th if you want and move him up if he hits if you want, but since he was our best hitter by a significant margin, why don’t we try something. It can’t be any worse than it is now. I never said anything negative recently about Nolan, in fact, I lobbied for him to hit 2nd for now so I don’t know what you’re poking at.

New-styl Yankee bats? interesting article at the Athletic It’s legal and my gut says this design will be proliferated.

NEW YORK — The New York Yankees’ bats were certainly alive during Saturday’s 20-9 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. And some of them looked a bit different than usual — though the league says they’re legal.
Early in the game, in which the team hit a franchise-record nine home runs, YES Network’s play-by-play broadcaster Michael Kay mentioned that several Yankees players were using newly designed bats, including shortstop Anthony Volpe and second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., who both homered in the game. These bats feature a barrel closer to the hands rather than near the end of the bat, which is the standard.

“You see the shape of Chisholm’s bat? The Yankee front office, the analytics department, did a study on Anthony Volpe, and every single ball it seemed like he hit on the label,” Kay explained. “He didn’t hit any on the barrel, so they had bats made up where they moved a lot of the wood into the label, so the harder part of the bat is going to actually strike the ball. It’ll allow you to wait a little bit longer.”

At least it was a win. The hitting is scary — and sadly looks like it did in spring training.

BTW am I the only one who thinks Trout is going to hit about .240 with some power and only about 75 RBI? I’d love to see much more, but I think that’s where we are presently. His numbers and those of Soler might be close.

Let’s hope the bats heat up soon.

He’s 23, has incredible stuff, high velo, and the best team around to develop him. They don’t need
him to be an ace right now, and they knew there would be growing pains.

We’d all be ecstatic to have him and talk about how we had to give him time to develop if he were an Angel.

I think he’ll be alright

Yet the Doyers are 5-0 and despite hiccups by some of the newer high priced acquisitions they got plenty left in reserves to steam roll the competition. I would think the Mariners 116 win record season is in serious jeopardy

This situation is moan worthy…. This is the “New Evil Empire.” Or the “Evil Empire in Blue” (the 2009 Yankees were the Empire in Black).

Truth be told the current iteration of the Dodgers are far worse then the Yankees ever were in terms of “buying” a Championship. Because they surpassed what team Steinbrenner did in $ by alot, but also because they are going to be buying 3 or more ….

I don’t see any way they don’t win it again this year. And very likely next year as well…They are just too deep. They could afford to have two starters drop from the rotation and they just plug in May etc..or somebody from the farm. As for position players, they were without Betts (top 4 or 5 player in the game)_ for a whole week and Freeman for several games and they did not miss a beat.

It just makes the entire MLB season boring and uninteresting. We know the outcome in advance. I agree with those who say the Dodgers are ruining baseball, because they are.

More than anything this props up those arguments for having a hard cap in baseball.

I agree Dodgers are way more of a big spending-self centered ‘Evil Empire’ than the Steinbrenner Yanks. Man I hated that team, but have to give them credit, most of the core players in those years were from brought up from their system: Jeter, Posada, Petit, Rivera, Bernie Williams. You look at Dodgers who’s really left now? Will Smith and an old Kershaw? They are carried by 3 MVP hitters, all-star pitchers, Japan studs, all from other teams, acquisitions powered by $$. Then there’s that deferred thing. Big blue is the new most disliked team in baseball, as fans outside of LA watch them stack trophies year after year.

According to the Angels, tonight was actually a loss:

Angels center fielder Jo Adell left Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the White Sox with left hip tightness sustained while beating out an infield single to lead off the fifth inning.” – Jo Adell leaves game for Angels with left hip tightness

Lugos still in the lineup tonight for the Bees so maybe Jo’s ailment is just indigestion.

Unfortunately it looks like Chase Silseth is not faring as well . He only lasted 1-2/3 innings tonight in El Paso where gave up 2 hits 2 ER 4 walks 1 balk and one disengagement violation while throwing 59 pitches . It makes you wonder how healthy he really is

To linger on the positive, Soriano is easily our best SP.

For a “velo” guy, he pitches to contact – which = lower pitch counts.

I’m actually encouraged he’s hit the ball as hard as he has in the first 2 starts Most all of his damage has come against left handers and careerwise he’s been borderline Squidish against RHP. Of course we only face one left hander this road trip so expect more of the same

Plenty of LOBsters for sale today, you have to plate them yourself since The Angels are not going to. Great pitching, no offense.

Cheap Art is now making them catch their own…probably won’t need many this year, in order to plate a LOBster, you need people to reach base.

I’m feeling pretty good . Our starting pitching is looking good, the bullpen could be spectacular if it’s managed properly. Heck even our position players can dominate on the mound.

Too bad they make you score runs in order to win games.
