Morning Angels fans, have links or whatever
Angels News
With the projections out now, we are doing our “If We were Perry” series. Which, again, was upstaged by the real Perry making moves before everyone else. Not only a trade, but some other things like Kenny being released.
Anyway, incase you missed it, Part 1: Jeff Joiner is out now. Watch as the IRL Perry makes a move before the next one comes out today.
Oh and the Angels are getting an Assistant GM. Finally. Watch as next year we have an “If I were the Assistant GM…”
Around Baseball
Which teams have had the best attendance? According to Baseball reference, the Dodgers. But the Angels are in the top 10. How much of that is Arte meddling, who knows.

The department of justice is now getting involved with the bankruptcy of Diamond Sports. They may cause the failed broadcaster to finally die and have the MLB rights go back to MLB.
Latin America Baseball Tournament is a go. Which includes the US because demographics. But in SPANISH.
Baseball is Japan’s Pastime. 56 MILLION Japanese people watched the World Series at 9 AM Japan time. Yeah, Arte really ruined the biggest money maker he ever had.
That special MLB mud that sneaky guy gathers ACTUALLY has some weird scientific properties. Somehow. Spooky.
Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.
Peoria at Scottsdale…LIVE!!

Kavadas and Fontenelle coming up to bat at SRF
Kavadas grounded out but Cole singled.
Niko doubled in the go-ahead run and knocked some Twins starter out of the game.
Nice. I really enjoy SRV.
Seeing ABS in action is interesting. There have been a few challenges but nothing overturned.
If they are doing this with balls and strikes, you can see that the other base umpires could easily be replaced too.
Soon as I said that a call was overturned it was 1.2” outside
Gino Groover – 3b prospect for D-Backs – cool name
Houston Harding now pitching- lefty in our organization
I saw it in AAA last year. Quick and the ump was right the first 4 times and just missed a ball on the 5th. Possibly added 2 minutes total to the game.
An ERA south of 5.00 and 100+ innings from Hendricks is a definite W at 2.5 million.
I’d be surprised if Hendricks can get back below 5
Someone has to eat the innings. Getting a vet to do it for $2.5M is fine. Not sure you sign a guy like this if you think you’re actually going to compete for a playoff spot though.
If Hendricks gives the Angels 100 league average innings, the contract is worth it. If he’s really good, you flip him for a prospect before the trade deadline.
Nobody in the MLB expects us to compete for a play off spot. Not even Arte. Also, no FO in the MLB ever comes out and declares “we will not be competing this year”. All the fans who seem to expect that from an owner or FO are either twits or playing the asshole cause they need something extra to be pissed at.
Right. What marketer in their right mind would say “we are not going to compete this year”. The “compete” narrative is a marketing ploy to sell tickets.
I see this often, if it doesn’t work, flip him for a prospect. The only one I can think of is Thor for Moniak. Aaron Hicks? Released. Matt Moore? Waived. Kevin Pillar? Played well so we kept him instead of trading him.
If other teams wanted some of these guys they’d have signed them on the cheap in the first place.
Luis Garcia to the Red Sox last year.
thanks. Lugo and Kavadas among others
So we got to witness the annual Rosenberg release. he’ll be back, just watch and see.

So here’s the article about Minasian’s big dumpster dive move.
Ohhh boy. This should get them to that 93 loss improvement they are striving for. Anything over 3 m a season is a gross over pay.
“…lowest velocity fast ball…” didn’t we try this with Weaver 2.1? That ended real well, didn’t it. When hitters sit on off-speed and react to the fast ball, things can, and usually do, go wonky very fast.
It may not be Weaver bad. We’ll have to see. Hendricks has never had a real fastball. He’s location location location. But he is old and may officially be too low velo now….
For that price, if he teaches two kids to locate pitches the way he has over his career he’s worth it to us.
His baseballsavant page is far from pretty, but also has some small reasons for hope.
His hard hit rate and exit velocity are both good and he gets a lot of ground balls. Between him and Silent C, Perry better focus on infield defense.
If he pitches to a bunch of worm killers, we may have the defense behind him to make his numbers better, or at least acceptable.
He’s half the price of Canning with about the same production. He has a much lower ceiling than Canning, but the cost savings is nice and it keeps the young arms clock from starting early before our window opens. (Currenly its boarded up like Tampa Bay was)
Kershaw is a free agent… Kershaw is a Doyer… rinse, repeat.
The Yankees have had 20(12.9%) seasons with below average attendance?
The Dodgers have had none? How come they don’t have 27 rings?
Attendance = Wins, not so fast there my friend. The Dodgers has always had great attendance and winning is not in that equation and never has in this Baseball marketplace. The Angels have also led the American League in attendance and have had very good attendance record since the move to the Big A and in our team’s history we are below .500 record. Southern Californian’s love their Baseball at all levels. 🙂
My thought is that attendance = money which should translate into wins with proper management of such funds.
MLBTR is reporting we’re nearing agreement with Kyle Hendricks.
That’s the 34 year old Kyle Hendricks with nearly 6 ERA with the Cubs last season.
So I guess we’ve replaced Canning?
Perry must be watching too many 2016 WS highlights.
It’s finally dawned on him it was the Cubs players, not their manager.
Rizzo is a FA and I’m sure we could also get Bryant from the Rocks.
His TV is stuck on WGN.
Is this because I mentioned that we needed veteran leadership?
It’s called being aggressive
LOL This guy is no better than Canning. Typical Angels offseason move.
YES! This is exactly what I want.
As fans, we need to decide if we are gonna play the kids or not. You can’t have FA pitchers with obvious value and semi-high price tags coming in and taking innings if we are really gonna do this. Hendricks is disposable. Every Seth Lugo/Michael Wacha type that we manage to add is a guy who is likely to bust AND will need 100 innings to prove it AND does nothing to help the team in the long run. Do we want the rebuild to last ten years? No? Then let’s suck it up now and try and keep it to 2-3 years.
Fk The Compete.
Schanuel- ESPN columnist said this morning 98% of MLB players had a faster bat speed.
Sign Pete Alonso.
I know you’ve been advocating for this for some time. It would certainly make them more interesting. Get one more bat and a starting pitcher and we would get people’s attention.
i’ve always like Pete, but had hope for Schanuel till i saw how his bat speed compared.
They just need to spend a year rebuilding his swing
Why did we draft him? The scouts didn’t know his bat speed in college?
maybe thought he could improve it?
But then why rush him through the organization?
Both great questions.
Perry’s draft strategy – A guy that could be thrusted into the MLB line-up is more valuable than drafting for ceiling potential. Get with the program Senator.
He’s 6’4 220, I believe that can be changed by rebuilding his swing. Work with him on it next year in the minors. It doesn’t impact his strike zone judgement. It’s worth the effort.
I think the coaches are telling him to swing harder, unless they’re not.
Right. There’s plenty of reason to believe he can be good. I don’t think they are gonna send him down unless he collapses in April. They SHOULD get a back up/platoon partner for him that has a little pop.
I like how everybody around here talks like he hit for 42 OPS+ last year and then lost an eye to a freak eel fishing accident this week. In his first full season of professional baseball at ANY level he hit for a 101 OPS+. So a very slim hair above average. Note the word ABOVE.
That’s why he’s on the team. Why they drafted him. Why they will likely work on him getting a little stronger and swinging a little harder.
Jeezbus crisps CoachDads. Shut the fk up. No one gives a shit about your expert analysis of Nolan’s swing, how timid he is and how he’s probably thinking about horses when he steps to the plate. Look at his college stats. Look at season 1 of his career. Forget that you’re a bitter old man with Arte issues for a second. That’s why they drafted him.
Well, let’s see, Alonzo’s (Expecting the best) HR production is about 40, that would just about cover former employee #17s production, soooooo what else you have that would change the team’s results in 2025…..2026….or 2027?
Adell’s is one of the fastest, that bat moves through the zone at top speed during his horrendous strike out rate. BTW, Rod Carew probably had a decrepitly low bad speed as well.
(No comparison between Carew and Schanuel, just wanted to point that out)
The key here is that if you’re not going o hit the ball hard, you need to hit .325.
Agreed, that’s why I have been saying, send him down to work @ AAA.
They are actually quite similar. They walk about the same, Schanuel hits a few more HRs but Carew hits more 2Bs. The big separator is that Schanue’s BA is 75 points lower which impacts OBA and slugging. Schanuel only had only 13 HRs and 19 2Bs in 519 ABs. Carew also generated his high batting averages during a very depressed run scoring period.
Agreed on that point, I just didn’t want someone to think….you know…Carew vs Schanuel.
Someone around here back in the day said we hope he can be good season James Loney. That sounds about right. BIG IF he develops more power and his hit tool continues to improve (if you look at his Daily 15 Game Rolling wOBA he has) then he might even be Todd Helton sans Coors Field. You can look at his chart and literally see him struggle/adjust/hit well/pitchers adjust/struggle/adjust/hit even better repeat last year. If that all tightens up in the future he’ll at least be an .800 OPS guy.
Did not like the draft pick to begin with, this post does make it feel better but I’m suspecting Per-Per will give the slow-footed, slow-bat speed guy another year. Bigger holes are elsewhere.
Actually, if you’re talking about offense, assuming Rengifo plays 3B, the 2 biggest holes are 1B and RF which are typically 2 of the most productive offensive positions. Long term, we need a 1B, 3B, and RF. We’re not going to fill them all this year. Alonzo would be a good start and then you could give Adell one more chance to develop and see what you can draft this year and get in trade for Ward and Rengifo. I actually think that would be a good strategy.
Yeah, following. 1B is a run producing hole. 3rd is most definitely.
If we signed Alonzo and 1 starting pitcher, I would actually be quite pleased. It would not necessarily move the needle, but we would be much improved over last year with those guys, Soler, and hopefully a healthy trout, and in a position to improve additionally next year.
I worry a little bit about Alonso being a swing for the fence guy like Soler. A lot of immobility in this line-up. Walker would be better but not with a QO attached. a 1-year of Goldy, nah.
If we could just get rid of our bullshit 1B we’d totally be in full on chubbed out compete mode.
or, ya know, have him work on his bat speed?
It’s getting to the point where I just laugh at all the “we need to build the org from the farm up” bullshit on this site. I think about five people on here really have the testicles for it.
“Yeah. Pay Pete Alonso 150M to be on a team that already needs to give DH at bats to 2 guys. Sounds about right. Arte is the problem. Fan Manz so smarter. Sho Nuff. Got to. Read an article that mad me feel sad about Schanuel after one season. That makes me mad. Which makes me sad…. I hate Arte.”
Oh no, he killed Kenny!!! Bastard! …. What? Oh, he just released him.
Sox dropped a slugfest 13-11.

Go Sox Go!
Sounds like the plan for today
“We don’t need no stinkin’ pitching”
There’s baseball today ⚾️
‘Turn the page’ ( I heard that on a news program on TV this morning)
