Jack Kochanowicz got his first major league win yesterday. The Cubs wanted Logan O’Hoppe before the trade deadline. That trade would have sparked a lot of outrage around here. Christian Moore hits nearly a homer per game. Jose Marte went on the injured list with a viral infection.
Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan suffered a season ending UCL strain. The Phillies made a bumch of roster moves on Sunday. James Paxton got a calf injury five pitches into his start yesterday. The Mariners have activated Julio Rodriguez who was on the ten day IL with a bad ankle.
Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran responded to a heckling fan by using a homophobic slur that was audible on the broadcast of the game. He says he is sorry.
The White Sox fired their manager, Pedro Grifol.

watch out for this kid
Rio Foster with a .444/.545/.722 slash line since being promoted to Single-A, with an OPS of 1.267

Well technically he’s not a kid since he turned 21 almost 2 months ago playing against many teenagers and 20 year olds but Its encouraging that he is starting out hot in low A and maybe breaking out. Not bad for Perry’s 2023 16th round draft pick who signed for $100,000 last year.
More talent on the way….

IMO The Hyphenator has been better.
2024 Mason Erla 1.20 WHIP 1.96 ERA 6.1 K/9 2.78 K/BB 0.2 HR/9 .618 OPS Against
2024 Darrell-Hicks 1.01 WHIP 1.73 ERA 9.9 K/9 5.75 K/BB 0.0 HR/9 .547 OPS Against
Armstrong, Nick Jones, Torres, Minacci, Hayden Seig…..of some interest. With some Ginger Angel Barry dust.
On track to make the big club by his 28th birthday
I get worried when I see “Baldo” with anything associated with the Angels

It looks like we are missing a pitcher.
Could be a new strategy that Washington is using or maybe they’re implementing Pineapple12’s idea to turn Rendon into a pitcher.
Jed Hoyer actually thinking he could pry O’Hoppe from the Angels :
😆😆😆😆
The recent earthquakes (just had another one) is being caused by a seismic shift in the way the Angels are playing baseball….a more competitive, well balanced, winning style of the grand old game is becoming the norm. The drafting and development of players has caused the ground to move and the team to appear closer to becoming a contender. MLB has alerted the media…….things are shaking for the first time in the last 13+ years.
Don’t blame Arte…..blame Perry and Wash.
-Lucy Jones
I see that you too are a graduate of the Danny Glover School of Seismographic Studyings and I concur.
Man. James Paxton gets hurt even more than Rendon. He must really love sitting around in total comfort collecting money. What an asshole.
James Paxton and Anthony Rendone have hit the same number of HRs this season.
0
But how many home runs has Rendon given up?
touche. Should we turn the $245 million man into a pitcher ?
Only if he throws Left handed.
I would say that Rendon wouldn’t do worse than some of the pitchers they trotted out there, but I’m sure he’d find a way.
In another Coinkydink, Robert Stephenson and that $700 Million player on the Doyers have thrown the same amount of strikeouts this season as well.
you’re not wrong
Looking over the Blue Jay’s record, they’re pretty close to what the Angels have done this year. Their hitting might be slightly better, but pitching is slightly worse. The biggest difference seems to be that Toronto has Vlad Jr. with a big year and the home team doesn’t have anyone to match him.
The biggest difference is they were supposed to be in a couple World Series by now….
One of the biggest flaws with the Angel’s has been their lack of ability to develop players in the last 15 years. Trout doesn’t really count as somebody who needed to be developed. Without Trout, the Angels have really not drafted and developed many good MLB players let alone a great one. They’ve either drafted or developed extremely poorly. However, now, we have Neto, O’hoppe and some kid named Moore down in the minors that I hear is doing all right. Is it possible that now that the Ohtani circus is over that now Perry can start being an actual GM and start developing a minor league system that recruits decent players and then develops them. Is this why we have Washington? Am I just butter cupping here. Like with women, I’ve been hurt before and I’m a little emotionally fragile. Maybe I’m a Codependent? Should I go to a self-help group and work on my addiction?
a Blum article that doesn’t totally shit on us? Wow!
Regarding CMo …
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5694925/2024/08/12/angels-first-round-christian-moore/
Having our minor league coaches teach what Wash is teaching at the big league level feels important. Organization is in sync?!?!?!?!
Such a hard-hitting a Question
He should have answered, no……it is what it is. Next question.
I love the “working hard” ask and answers….
or he could of said: “Really, which scout said that about me? I want names. I like to chew bubble gum and kick ass. I’m all out of bubble gum and will be going after them.”
I would like to see Blum fight Arte. It would be awesome, like watching zoologists trying to get pandas to fk.
Trying to report the facts as he sees them is not shitting on us. We have actually been shit from top to bottom for a long time, I’m personally fine he’s calling the Angels out on it.
So we beat Seattle 6 out of 7 times last month and won a series in the Bronx.
But we can’t beat Oakland and lost the series to Washington.

I’m sorry but I feel compelled to ask: What’s all this stuff about Eagle Rights? Pretty soon the pigeons are going to want to vote.
I think You maybe conflating Gilda Radner SNL Characters there Pedro.
Nevermind.
I just found out this minute that Richard Feder, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, is a real guy, not a made up name. The brother in law of a writer at SNL.
Hey, did you know the name of the show is really Saturday Night? Or was. Saturday Night Live was the Howard Cosell variety show. I guess it was too confusing for the public to get that straight and since SN/SNL started “Live!” it made sense to go with it once the Cosell show ended.
funny.wav – Howard Cosell voice: “I don’t think that’s funny.”
goof.wav – Howard Cosell classic complaint: “Who goofed? I’ve got to know.”
cospre.wav – Howard Cosell has to make the train: “I simply have to get done. I have an 8 O’clock train at Penn Station.”
howawd.wav – Howard Cosell laugh
simple.wav – Howard Cosell voice: “It’s only radio, it’s so simple.”

And the Rockies at home.
We can beat anybody and lose to anybody, especially when it doesn’t matter for us. We’re the Chargers of MLB.
Is this really TAME?
I mean, to some extent that’s baseball. The Yankees fans can complain that they beat so and so but lost a series to the Angels. Maybe the Angels notch up their focus when playing certain teams as compared to others. Maybe other teams notch up their focus when playing the Halos.
With 162 games, unexpected results occur. Even the mediocre teams have changes of momentum and suddenly win a few series that they, on paper, “should” have lost; or lose some series they “should” have won.
Eventually the long season of games reveals the reality of what every team truly “is” regardless of how they play during certain stretches or against certain teams.
I think it’s one of the great things about baseball. The super teams are usually at most, two/three wins out of ten above the worst teams. Meaning, whatever team your heart is with will still be a winner against the best teams giving you hopium.
We seem to play up against the better teams and worse against the lesser ones. It’s been like that a long time.
Doing this with no Trout and almost no starting pitching (shoutout TA and Soriano) is pretty incredible. Wash and Co. are legit.
“The Angels hit their low point this season after game 59. They were 21-38 (.356).
Since then they have played 59 games. They are 31-28 (.525)”
https://x.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1822768209411428618?t=89mgXEhjAK1XO_5w59BfQg&s=19
Okay, Wash is a good coach – no doubt about it. Anderson and Soriano have been solid. Neto has been playing way beyond his years over the past few weeks. These posts would have significantly more credibility if the overdosing of hopium would be moderated. 😀
I’m too GA to do the research, but what other factors influenced the .525 winning percentage? For example, what was the winning percentage of the teams they played during those 59 games?
I’m not going through to check what records were on the dates the teams played, but here are the opponents since June 2 and their current record:
SD 66-53
HOU 62-55
ARI 66-53
SFG 61-59
MIL 67-50
LAD 69-49
OAK 50-69
DET 56-63
CHC 59-60
TEX 55-63
SEA 63-56
COL 44-75
NYM 61-57
NYY 70-49
WSN 54-65
Total 903-876
Thanks for looking this up. The current record is probably a better indication of each team’s quality than record at the time anyway.
That’s pretty good, a winning record against teams with winning records.
The next month will be rough as the Angels only play 3 teams with losing records (Toronto, Detroit and Texas) while the other six are fighting for the playoffs.
OK since I have nothing else to do I went back and looked at all the opposition teams’ records during these 59 games. What I found that the Angels only played 7 series against 6 teams with a .500 or better record they had a combined 15-6 (I had an error in my previous maths) record so the Angels actually played much better over this stretch against the winning teams than the losing teams . Who knew?
As you can see from P-12’s list there are significantly more teams at or over .500 now then when we played them and It seems as if most of the teams that were below .500 have improved substantially since we’ve played them and not just against us.
Not sure but considering we went 7-12 against the 3 worsiest teams during that stretch (Nat Rockies and A’s) and then 24-16 against the rest so beating up on the really bad teams has not been the key to this resurgence lately.
Makes me wonder about playing the White Sox next month.
Sandy, detmers, and Canning. The 3 guys supposed to anchor the rotation, all played worse this year. I don’t think the angels were expecting that at all. I sound like a broken record, but if suarez is never on this roster their record looks alot better.
Pineapple12 has been put on the 7-day IL with a calf injury.
The hope is to return Sunday, August 18 at the Big A to see Christian Moore.
Stay away from Trout’s medical team. What has been diagnosed as a calf-injury could also be a compound fracture of the fibula. 😋
Hope you are feeling better soon!
In Angel Land, that translates to ‘see you in Tempe in 2025’
trAdition!!
Wonder if Vladdy Jr’s daddy will be there tonight?
Games in France over, now back to Baseball. Oh, sure the U.S. did well in the medal count, but from opening ceremonies to the end it was not one of our (USA) best Olympics. I pay for cable tv and then if we wanted, and we didn’t want to, we could have paid the Peecock more monies to watch all of the events instead of putting them on all the NBC owned channels. I hate NBA Basketball, actually any basketball, field Hockey, soccer all on USA every night it seemed. Not one of the better telecasts of the games overall.
There were games in France? Baseball? What teams played?
The Escargots and the French Fries. 😃

Crazy Sunday with 13 walks and only 5 K’s and Pillar game has 3 RBI. King Kon gets first win!. “Whata game I tell ya, whata game….” 😂
