Morning Angels fans. If you are just waking up, the Angels played the Nats already. Yawn. Why do they have morning games anyway? Anyway, Jack Kochanowicz pitched today. He went 7 and 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, striking out 2 and walking 1. Very Olympics name for the final day of the Olympics and a Gold Medal performance as well.
As for the hitting? The Angels managed to score lots thanks to the blunders of the Nats more than anything. But hey, you take those. Taking advantage of mistakes is what teams should be doing, even this team is full of talented players. Especially since tons of the baserunners were walks. Great eyes, team!
Highlighted Recap
This was a quiet one until the 4th, when the Nats booted a grounder, allowing the Angels to score first!
And a GIDP also scores another run. Not ideal, but, it works?
I would like more, good thing Pillar cleared the bases with a double!
After that blitz, the Angels now had a big lead halfway through the game, and that was despite hitting into 3 double plays.
What really helped was all those walks. Double digit walks for the Angels. And in the 7th, the Nats walked in another.
Jack was cruising until the 8th, when he allowed a home run.
He still tried to get through the inning, but allowed another run and was yanked.
Oh well. The bullpen got out of that jam and the Angels loaded the bases and got NOTHING in the 8th.
Joyce came in for the 9th and while it wasn’t a save, he was the best option.
Neto helped get that first out with a great play.
Which was needed as Joyce started blowing it, allowing lots of baserunners, and a run.
And then he walked in a run.
But a GIDP allows the Angels to win 6-4. WHEW
Upcoming
The Angels return to the Big A, facing the Blue Jays Mon-Wed and then the Braves next weekend. No game Thursday, remember that.
