We picked 8th so nothing you can do about anyone in the first 7. I was hoping for Wetherholt and the Cardinals took him right in front of us. At the time, my next pick would have been Konnor Griffin. Even at the time, the Moore pick was a head scratcher.

Moises Ballesteros in September: .357/.408/.595

He had a tough August when he transitioned to his new team, but I think you can see the potential in this 22 year old.

What he’s doing this month isn’t unprecedented for him. He hit .382/.426/.745 in April, and hit .298/.394/.474 last year in his MLB rookie debut.

Looking like a good return for Zeferjahn thus far.

Can we just put him full time behind the plate these remaining games and see how he is defensively? That is where he needs to slot in to be of significant value. A slow DH is a page from Minasian’s playbook. .

Well, even though he’s on the short side, I wouldn’t write off first base entirely. Fangraphs even penned a feature this week on how height isn’t the significant advantage at 1B that it’s conventionally thought to be – infielders tend to tailor their throws to the size of the target. Ballesteros might be a better blend of contact and power than Schanuel in time, which is probably why they’re airing him out there.

A slow DH seems a pretty classic archetype – not sure if that’s unique to Minasian. Just any given hitter whose bat is superior to his glove.

After watching Grissom clunk a double play throw, and Peraza clank a pop up, we have some prime candidates for DH because their glovework stinks.

Unless you want a DH that can hit.

I’d hate 1st base. Feels like a lack of proper roster construction. Perry-ball.

To optimize his value and fit within the team structure, it’s catcher or he needs to DH. Halos have no catcher. d’Arnaud and Heineman won’t be coming back, pretty easy call. Sure, he can pinch hit at first if needed.

We’re gonna need that DH slot for a full time Trout, might not be 2027 if Mike has his way (but should be) but 2028 thru 2030 for sure. Mike is not going anywhere and is determined to retire an Angel.

btw…Schanuel has quietly moved up the ranks as a good scooper, 7th ranked per Baseball Savant. Not stumping for Nolan to remain an Angel but it would be nice to see Nolan play some ball with competent hitters surrounding him. that would be a first in his career.

Hopefully some veteran motivates him on his weight – as it will start being a problem if he doesn’t get it under control. He was listed as 195, but looks like he’s ballooned up to 225-235. Bat looks to be legit.

The most amazing stat for starting pitchers for Angels is each one takes the mound and each knows he need to pitch a shutout into at least the 10th inning to even have a chance for a “Win.”

Looking into high leverage hitting. Trout is also not very good, for the last 10 years. There’s some walks in there. But just like WBC and lone playoff appearance, just doesn’t get it done when it matters the most. If only CtPG guy wasn’t holding him back /s

August 2018… Trout was on the IL with a wrist injury. Aaron Cox (Jess’ bro) passed during that IL stint. Mike hasn’t been the same since. Wrist injury or a change of focus toward family (understandably)? Dunno. Just one big red flag on the timeline.

GRod was rusty as hell after not pitching in the majors since July 2024, and it was expected that he’d struggle out of the gate. His last 10 starts look pretty good, don’t they?

He is in the top 20 in OPS in the AL.

His OPs+ is sitting at 129.

He has 3.9 BRefWar.

He is not the player he was in 2018. That was 8 years ago. Aging happens.

He is not in the top 26 problems with this team and the idiots talking about Neto and Trout being washed – or not worth entertaining the idea of keeping – are showing us a whole lot about their ball knowledge.

It’s 2026. Stats evolved and just because they aren’t understood by a group of people doesn’t mean that they aren’t accurate. It just shows how scientifically illiterate our population has become.

I agree with most of this, but Trout’s decline is worth discussing and it is a problem when he’s making $38 million a year.

His OPS is propped up by all the walks. His .419 SLG is 77th and .239 BA is 104th in all baseball. That’s pretty freaking poor.

All of his clutch and high leverage numbers are publicly available. It’s a mixed bag.

True. He get’s on base with a few HRs. Can’t do anything about the money and it doesn’t do us any good to complain because there is nothing we can do about it. He has value hitting 1 or 2 in the order even though he costs a lot but get him off the field.

Of course, discuss it. But “all the walks” make him super valuable as a table setter for there other bats in the lineup. It’s not his fault there are no other bats in the lineup. Again, I’d reiterate – a 130 OPS is nothing to sneeze at.

Ideal lineup has Meckler leading off, Trout batting 2nd, and Neto hitting 3rd or 4th behind them. That Suzuki hasn’t figured that out is a HUGE red flag re: his knowledge about how runs are created. But, I think most of us didn’t expect any different.

I like your meckler, trout and Neto lineup idea the most.

Even when there have been bats in the lineup, Trout just doesn’t get it done by any metric.

He’s had Kole Calhoun, David Eckstein, Erick Aybar, Shohei Ohtani, Luis Rengifo, and Zach Neto hit ahead of him and Albert Pujols, Justin Upton, Shohei Ohtani, and C.J. Cron behind him. Not nobody’s.

It’s fine to root for trout. Just don’t look too far under the hood or expect much when the game is on the line. Like Suzuki managing, none of this should be a surprise, albeit not that awesome to read/realize.

Disagree re: lineup order. Based on the current roster and because of his OBP and propensity to draw walks, Trout should be batting leadoff.

Exactly. 3 career walk off hits, last in 2015. Terrible high leverage hitting (see above) with 2019 being his last good year at that. He’s had pujols and ohtani hitting behind him. This isn’t a personal attack, Trout simply isn’t the GOAT, nor has he ever been. He’s been a very good player that won 3 MVPs and stole our hearts as a young man with the potential to come that never materialized into anything significant.

Have you watched him do well on TV? In person? In a series vs NYY? That’s awesome and should be discussed. So to should his inability to lead a team.

We’ve all had at Arte, Perry, the kids stealing 3rd base that have the timer paused multiple times so they can get to the finish line… why should trout be any different? None of these GWH or high leverage situational hitting are made up. Some of his number are made up hitting positional player pitching and when the game just doesn’t matter. Some.

Anyway, I still like trout and he’s on the Angels Mt Rushmore. Just, you know, existing in reality here 🤷‍♂️
