Angels vs. Mariners Game 2 Gamethread

I figured Seattle would walk away with the division this season. Their rotation looked too strong.

I don’t want to make a Federal case, but if you watch game after game (not just tonight), the defense elevates the ERA of the pitchers.

Should’ve been 6 shutout innings for RJ. Another excellent outing against the AAA Mariners (shot at Seattle not RJ)

I picked up RJ as a streaming option for a playoff game (for the #1 pick in my league) not for the championship but now I get him for $2 for next year if I want to, which based on his end of the season i’m definitely picking up.

I ended up getting the #1 pick. I think i’m taking Emerson and then praying Grindlinger is there with the 14th pick.

I’ve never played dynasty but know $2 is a steal. Grindlinger would be sick and a long wait on returns haha

That’s 3rd out and no runs.

That’s what you get when you manage the team on vibes instead of talent.

I think we’ve reached the stage where he should be playing 350 feet to the southwest of where he does now.

A great pick-up.

A great RJ pitching line thru 5. No walks is the best part.

What the pitching staff is doing with RyJo is more impressive than Detmers/Urena. Pre Maddox firing, I was ready to send him to AA for at least 3 years.

I think we are going to need a tell all book by someone in the know about how far behind the Angels have been in the technology/scouting game. I think it’s far greater than we know. I mean Dipoto flat out crashed out and left a well paying job because Scioscia and Pujols wanted nothing to do with technology.

First Lowe took an outside pitch and hit it to opposite field. Good hitting. On both sides was a K by Guzman. 5 pitches, 1 in the strike zone. Then Moore K, on 4 pitches, 1 in strike zone.

I don’t want to pile on the kid too much, but it was quite the audacity from Moore to make scene earlier in the year when he was sent down midseason. If your OPS is under 5, you aren’t an MLB level player.

Same goes for Heinemen, who I actually like for the defense, but the bat is too negative to be an everyday player.

I’ll give him credit; Moore has that strike out perfected.

If Moore doesn’t develop into at least a regular, that’s really going to be a hard pill to swallow consider where he was drafted especially when mostly everyone questioned his ability to hit higher velocity even though he raked in the SEC.

Agree. But the reality is starting to set in.

It’s sad that the Angels didn’t play him consistently when he was on fire in SLC and got called up. They gave him the Brandon Wood treatment so that Peraza/Frazier and a bunch of guys could play that will never help the next competitive Angels team. Also I hope the Angels learn that it’s ok if he’s a cheap platoon guy rather than a bad regular. Adell could have been a great platoon guy instead he was a replacement level player because the Angels insisted he was an everyday guy. CMo had good deal better stats against lefties this year. Advincula is a lefty I think so maybe that’s a platoon in the making?

I remember a player named AJ Reed. He was great at Kentucky. Won the Golden Spikes award. Got drafted by Astros and was going to be great. The name escapes me but one old baseball scout said “He will never make the majors, his bat is too slow.” You would have thought he cursed Mother Teresa. But he was correct.

Does Tank Watch even matter in MLB? The lotto doesn’t reward bottom feeders these days.

Going to be fun to watch the race. Love this time of year. Cubs and Phils 4-6 in their last 10 have brought them back to pack a bit. Huge hit by Corbin Carroll last night, hope that will get them on a streak,

Classic Angels hitting strategy. Two consecutive walks, next batter swings at 1st pitch for an out followed by another 1 pitch out
