LA Angels Tuesday News Crash

Zach Neto is our 2026 Roberto Clemente Award Nominee. I forgot to link this yesterday. Rocket City made it into the playoffs.

Sam Bachman should be back any day now. He pitched a rehab game on Sunday and everything appears to be copacetic. The Angels leapfrogged the Rockies in Fangraphs Power Rankings. Now they are only second worst.

The Braves designated left-hander Bailey Falter for assignment. They re-signed Elieser Hernandez to a minor league deal. The Giants are considering shutting Logan Webb down for the rest of the season due to inconsistent play.

Chris Devenski cleared waivers. He has been outrighted to Triple-A.

Great win. This team is rolling right now.

Have to imagine Austin Gordon in game 2.

Rocket City has all the momentum end of season.

Missed Arjun’s tater because I had to run down to my venue to start a show, but nice to see him ante in and make it a laugher at the end there.

He’s someone I’ve been watching – decent middle relief potential.

The Panda I’m waiting to see debut in the MLB is Pinazzi, who I imagine we’ll see in this game. Dude is F-U-N-K-Y.

Collecting SEC/ACC closers had been a hallmark of the McIlvaine era. Collected two more from Georgia and Auburn in this year’s draft.

I am. The Pandas are still being pretty conservative with Bremner, capping him at 80 pitches again.

Agree with Rex – that was some mean fielding in the third inning. Kid is still hanging sliders though, which was responsible for the second run surrendered.

This is an interesting list. The TOP MLB Prospect each year. Some good ones, a couple meh’s, and a couple “who is that.” (And one who is still going to court.)

I was a bit surprised that Munroe was announced earlier today, given he’s played a full season and is still in postseason action. Nimmala makes sense given he missed a month and a half due to injury earlier this year.

I don’t see TGA listed in any of the official rosters as you note here.

The internet *could* be wrong lol. Yeah I think teams only get six spots. Go Solar Sox!

Your official list is more accurate.

My main point is as you note – full rosters were announced today

No problem – I’m glad someone shared them.

I’m just riffing on your comment. Munroe was a surprise, and I wondered if TGA was a late add, or a late scratch.

Honestly expected your boy Shores to be on the roster, given he didn’t even pitch 65 innings this season.

Yeah a shorter season made me think he would be a candidate- he’s had a curious year. I could have seen him also move to AA with Bremner too

Here, I commented this after the game last night. If yall are board you can think on who teams should give us for Detmers….

Or remember how incredibly good Jose Offerman and powerful Luis Medina were supposed to be…

Clearly Kade Anderson is a bust. Stupid Jer Jer.

Oh prospects. So much sizzle, so little steak. I love the draft and the MiLB and farming. But I will also never forget the first few “can’t miss” prospects I was aware of. They were Steve Avery, Ken Griffey Jr, Jose Offerman, Luis Medina, Frank Thomas, Todd Van Poppel and Roger Salkeld.

Chances are, after all the incredibly knowledgeable wank and squabble we are six years away from finding out the best player taken in the first round of the 2025 draft is someone like Marek Houston.

I’m pretty sure that almost NONE of the real menz of baseball on this site could have kept from woofing and poofing if Todd Van Poppel refused to sign with us if we picked him first in the draft. They would have been all bitter and butt hurt about being stuck with Chipper Jones, clearly not the most talented guy in the draft. Then they would have piss juju sprayed him till his career fizzled in a flurry of injuries and missed off speed pitches till he fell out of the system as a Quad A player.

Detmers continues to increase his trade value. My dream would be that some team decides to overpay for him over the winter because they are tired of getting bumped in the play offs. Maybe the Rays will be tempted into overpaying and sending us Theo Gillen, Ty Johnson and Tatin Gray. Or the Brewers really want a two headed monster with the Miz and send us Josh Adamczewski, Braylon Payne and Bishop Letson. MOAR KIDZ!

I woke up this morning and realized. I still hate the Dodgers

Pineapple12

Yea, you pull the trigger on that Rays package all day everyday. With their new owner, TB assumably would be willing to pay and extend Detmers.

HalosFanForLife

What about a straight trade – Grady Emerson (47.1 BTV) for Detmers (56.9). I’m simply talking in theory – we’d surely try to get another 10 points in BTV to make it equal – but the core concept is Emerson for Detmers. Rays have so many 10+ BTV minors guys – it’s crazy.

It’s an awfully speculative trade for an 18 year old. I’d want both quantity and quality for Detmers, personally.

The more jawdropping 1:1 exchange would be Detmers for Josue de Paula, though I think Neto for de Paula is the more obvious trade.

The Dodgers could spare him, given their ridiculous OF pipeline, but they’re far less deep in the middle infield on their farm.

Agree, Detmers would need to bring me back an OF ready to break in the bigs and a high rated prospect. The Dodger angle seems sound to me for either Reid or Neto.

Getting annoyed at these Kade bust narratives, when he’s literally the only 2025 prospect in the MLB, probably shouldn’t even be there yet, and has pitched more this year than he ever has in his short (just 22) life.

Wish we had better radar back then.

Skubal is an interesting comp, imo, because his fastball was sitting 94-95 in 2021 in his age 24 season, and then sitting 97-98 in 2025 at age 28.

Those who are burying Anderson this week are doing it primarily because of his FB (currently sitting 93-94 at the end of a long season for him).

They’re also playing against several of the prospects who were frequent trade targets in Detmers-to-Cubs deadline scenarios: Caple, Kepley, Hartshorn.

Hartshorn was prominently featured in my 2025 draft sim, so I continue to muse about what might have been. 🙂

Zach Neto
4.6 bWAR (T-5th for SS, T-21 for position players)
3.6 fWAR (7th for SS, T-37 for position players)

I cannot overstate how ridiculous the hate for Neto is. He’s an extremely talented and productive baseball player.

Reid Detmers
4.0 bWAR (T-15th for SP)
4.6 fWAR (T-8th for SP)

I’d prefer to keep both players long-term, but my mind is open to what we can get back in trades.

If the new owner is going for it, I’d keep them both.

If he is going to go along with the rebuild, I’d trade them both.

Leadership is not a strong point on the Angels. Trout is not a vocal leader. Some say leader by example, but his locker room antics say otherwise. We were looking to rookies to lead (Ohop, Neto Schanny) which isn’t ideal.

I’d love a valuable Vet (not on his last leg) (3yr contract) to come in and lead the team. Some respected coaches to lead the team. Tired of I want to be your friend coaching

But you can’t believe everything you read. Court testimony is unreliable bc person could be lying. Sometimes the sky isn’t blue and now I’m doubting if water is actually wet.

Trout could be a liar, I don’t personally know him.

WTF would the Stank be “going for” next year? Or even 2028? There aren’t even enough good FAs for him to buy on the market to make this team a goer of things.

New owner, new outlook, wants to make a statement by signing some expensive pitcher. Signjng some players that gets the team to .500 is a statement that work for some. And in our division .500 could even make the playoffs with deadline additions or… he could just be going out for a good burger.

Wonder if he’s an In-n-Out or Five Guys man?

This would be one of the greatest punkings in history:

Last home game of the season, the 7th inning stretch…
The jumbotron shows the message “Sale of Angels team canceled by Arte Moreno”. Then the screen zooms in on Arte standing in the top deck in the outfield in a t-shirt. He pulls it off and starts whirling it above his head dancing to the “together forever” chorus of Rick Astley’s song blasting over the speakers.

Sutton wore my ears out. Trent wasn’t to bad when he would do a few spot features. But he is everywhere now and should be banned from the booth. Langers does a better job on Angels Weekly and I’d take Mota back over Trent in the booth. The wine in his voice is just to much for me. Bring Victor back or a least back on Fridays and when needed.

Jeff Joiner

Had dinner with Trent last night. Definitely a great dude but I agree he is too many places right now.

Pregame, post game, on TV a couple days a week, and he does several of the features both on TV and online. Then you add in the fact he does over half of the commercials on the pregame and postgame shows and it goes from his voice to simply his voice.

Can’t fault him for being a hard worker who loves what he does, but that is a fast way for the Angels to burn him out and burn the fans out on him.

Also, not showing my ignorance as one jumping to conclusions, Sunday my thoughts were “DFA the entire 40 man roster.”

Then last night it was “maybe one outfielder and one relief pitcher and next season the Angels could be in the World Series.” I am known for my moderation.

I found the fans and optimism to be a bigger story than the game.

I can’t believe the Mariners are still in playoff contention 11 games under .500.

It would be really funny and a big middle finger to the league if someone from the AL West wins this whole thing.

If only the Angels was less worse than last year we would still be in the playoff hunt this September.

Magic number is 4 to clinch one of the top 3 draft order spots … any combo of KC Royals wins and Angel losses adding up to 4 and we’ve locked our place. Remember – the top 3 all have the same chance to pull the top pick (19.10%).
