I think we’re rapidly approaching a near future reality where the average starter goes less than 5 innings per more often than not.
If advanced data indicates that this particular player is better suited to pitch 4 innings, then teams will manage accordingly. By the numbers.

I was saying on Prodigy message boards in the mid 90’s that eventually teams would have all 4 inning pitchers and maybe a lefty reliever and closer. No one believed me back then.
