4-1 Loss Postgame

August 10, 2026

Today we had Reid Detmers versus MacKenzie Gore.

Anyway, the Rangers were only a half game out of the division lead. The Angels had a chance to be spoilers. How did they do? They lost a heartbreaker in ten innings.

Inning #1

Wyatt Langford struck out on three pitches. Corey Seager grounded out to second. Ezequiel Duran flied out to Meckler in right. Detmers four seam fastball was sitting in the 95 to 96 MPH range. Zach Neto, back in the lead off spot, flied out to right center field. Mike Trout hit his 20th homer to make it 1-0 Angels.

Nolan Schanuel grounded out to second base. Vaughn Grissom struck out.

Inning #2

Brandon Nimmo struck out swinging. Jake Burger chopped out to second. Justin Foscue drew a two out four pitch walk. Elias Diaz struck out looking. Jose Siri struck out swinging. So did Moises Ballesteros. Oswald Peraza bounced one through the right side for a two out base runner. Travis d’Arnaud walked. Wade Meckler grounded out to second.

Inning #3

Jonah Bride walked on five pitches. Cam Cauley sacrifice bunted to send Bride to second. Wyatt Langford also got a five pitch walk. Corey Seager grounded into a double play to end the top of the inning.

Zach Neto contributed one of his patented strikeouts. Mike Trout lined out to right center. Nolan Schanuel struck out and used up a challenge.

Inning #4

Ezequiel Duran got a bloop hit to the first base area. Brandon Nimmo got a hit to right field. Jake Burger struck out. Justin Foscue also struck out. Elias Diaz took ball one which was successfully challenged by Travis d”Arnaud. Diaz ended up smashing one through the left side to tie the game at 1-1. Jonah Bride bounced out to second. Vaughn Grissom bloop singled to right. Jose Siri struck out on three pitches. Moises Ballesteros flied out to short left field. He was robbed by a good diving catch.

Oswald Peraza chopped out to short.

Inning #5

Cam Cauley flied out to left. Wyatt Langford struck out. Corey Seager grounded out to second. Travis d’Arnaud struck out swinging. Wade Meckler got an infield hit to second. Zach Neto popped out to first. Mike Trout walked. Nolan Schanuel grounded out to second again.

Inning #6

Ezequiel Duran flied out to deep left. Brandon Nimmo walked. Jake Burger grounded into a force out. Justin Foscue popped out to Schanuel very near to the batters circle. Vaughn Grissom struck out. Jose Siri reached on a strike three that got away from the catcher.

Inning #7

Elias Diaz singled on a grounder to right. Pinch hitter Evan Carter flied out to right. Pinch hitter Josh Pederson flied out to center. Wyatt Langford walked. Tayler Saucedo came in to replace Jose Fermin. Corey Seager flied out to meckler on an outstanding home run robbery. Pinch hitter Josh Lowe singled on a sharp liner to right field. Wade Meckler drove him over to second with a sac bunt. Zach Neto flied out to left. Mike Trout was intentionally walked. Nolan Schanuel grounded out to first.

Inning #8

Ezequiel Duran struck out. Brandon Nimmo grounded out. Jake Burger popped out to shot. Vaughn Grissom singled on a grounder to right. Jose Siri hit into a double play. Moises Ballesteros struck out.

Inning #9

Justin Foscue singled on a liner to left. A wild pitch by Sammy Natera Jr. sent Foscue to second. Elias Diaz struck out. Evan Carter struck out. Nicky Lopez flied out to left. Pinch hitter Adam Frazier struck out swinging. Tyler Heineman grounded out to short. Wade Meckler flied out to right.

Inning #10

Luke Murphy came in to pitch. Wyatt Langford walked. Corey Seager lined a base hit to left to load the bases. Ezequiel Duran popped out to first. Blake Weiman came in to pitch. Never heard of him. Brandon Nimmo lined past Frazier to make it 2-1 Texas. Jake Burger popped a little hit over Adam Frazier to make it 4-1 Texas. Justin Foscue struck out and Elias Diaz grounded out to second base. Zach Neto grounded out to third. Mike Trout walked. Nolan Schanuel flied out to shallow right field. Denzer Guzman was batting when a wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third. Guzman proceeded to strike out.

Another Angels loss.

Luke read the script and knew his role. He did his job flawlessly and delivered the loss.

Not to be outdone, Neto, Schanuel, Ballesteros, and Siri were a combined 0 for 18 and made meaningful contributions.

To balance the above, Meckler brought the glove; Detmers pitched a solid game and deserved the win. Trout got on base four times.

Suzuki has to go.

Point #1 Tie game 8th inning. We get a leadoff runner. Meck hits great against rhp. Instead we have him bunt. The bunt predictably then took the bat out of Trout’s hands. Also the guy they bunted over (Lowe) has one of the highest SB % of ALL TIME! But no we had our 2nd best hitter give the other team an out to advance one of the best SB % runners of all time to 2nd so that if the next guy gets out, Trout doesn’t get to hit, you know the guy we are paying like 35 million to a year.

Point #2 Somehow Grissom decided that no doubles defense at 3rd was him playing on the line. Not a few feet from the line, not 5 feet from the line where he’d still have a good shot at anything to his right, no right on the line where half of his range is in foul territory. The announcers saw it and basically said how stupid it was without saying those words but exactly describing how he was in position to field foul balls. Suzuki and his staff apparently aren’t even watching where their defenders are playing or they jdgaf.

Point #3 Angels only down one run in the 10th and runners on first and third and one out. Rangers have their slowest hitter at the plate and the Angels are for some reason playing their infield in. That’s not the best defense to turn a double play which is what you want to do if a groundball is hit to you.

Point #4 Again the announcers correctly pointed out all of the outfielders were way too deep with the go ahead run on second when Nicky f’ing Lopez was at the plate. That guy is barely capable of hitting the ball over the outfielders heads where they were playing. But again the Angels aren’t about playing to win, they are about playing where they are comfortable and can have most plays where they are coming in on the ball. Good OF play shallow. Rada could hit 200 and Trout at DH and this team would be instantly at least marginally better than they are right now. He’s a ball hawk. I’m looking forward to him roaming the OF.

and I guarantee I put more thought and effort into that post than Suzuki does looking over batter splits and opposing scouting reports before every game.

I’m guessing that you’re also unimpressed with Kurt moving Neto back to leadoff, either. Neto is now batting .223. Wonderful.

Batting order is meh to me, I don’t think it makes all that much of a difference. Playing a guy in foul territory almost… like what the heck are they thinking?

This season has always been OJT for Suzuki to attempt learning how to manage. The fact remains that everyone has important work to not do for the team to achieve 100 losses. Suzuki is simply doing his part.
