Isn’t he already on the payroll. It’s an opportunity for Tori as well as the team. And also for player evaluation. The chance to see things without penalty. I also believe that Tori would draw people to the ballpark. He would sell tickets.

I always said that Torii had leadership qualities….. aside from any strategic or in-game considerations as a manager he is without a doubt a leader of men. That is underappreciated, and in my view the most important part of the job ! If he just does reasonably well at the other stuff he could be an excellent manager !!
Lots of unknowns like is he receptive to analytics and what would his in-game decision making look like, but I agree with being a leader. I like RH’s idea of replacing Suzuki with Tori for the rest of the season
