CA vs TX
Angels vs Rangers game 2
Since minor league contraction, the team’s High A club in Pasco WA has been a very offense challenged affiliate. The Northwest League is full of cold, damp parks and some with capacious or unusual environments that make it largely a pitcher’s league. The Angels were avoiding sending their more promising bats there – guys like Moore, Raudi and Rada went directly to AA.
Last night, however, the game featured a Dust Devils lineup with 8 players with an .825 OPS or better. A relative mashers row compared to previous teams.
Now, not all of these guys are prospects. Guys like Bartolero, Coutney and Nicholson are age 25-26 and have hit their heads hard on the AA ceiling in the past. But it’s unusual to have the Angels’ most powerful offense be in the most offensively challenged league.
And the bottom of that order bears watching. They’re low probability guys, with some problematic plate approaches, but each have made a little improvement this season and some individual tools that keep them in the picture:
Randy De Jesus (age 21): 134 wRC+
Anthony Scull (age 22): 126 wRC+
Adrian Placencia (age 22): 156 wRC+
Home runs from a quartet of fan favorite prospects last night on the farm: Hayden Alvarez, Lucas Ramirez, Juan Flores and Jake Munroe.
Also, multi-hit nights from Denzer Guzman and Christian Moore.
Doing this Pineapple-style, some follow hitters in the system, by weighted runs created:
Christian Moore (AAA): 132 wRC+
Denzer Guzman (AAA): 125 wRC+
Raudi Rodriguez (AA): 152 wRC+
Juan Flores (A+): 144 wRC+
Jake Munroe (A+): 156 wRC+
And a couple maybe turning a corner:
Hayden Alvarez: 103 wRC+
Lucas Ramirez: 101 wRC+
Both striking out way too much for the Cal League, but Alvarez has returned to his fall numbers in May: .351/.443/.514. Just needs to cull the Ks – too much whiff for a speedy leadoff guy who is second in the league in SBs (20).
Been noticing Alvarez playing better. I’m hopeful his whiff rate will go down and he breaks out. Last year it was not a thing. Sleeper to break MLB Top 100 in ‘27?
He was a pick to click for several analysts in prospect media in the off-season, yeah.
There’s still a lot of physical projection there – he looks the part. I think he was pressing in April to meet the hype, and just reaching for way too many bad pitches.
He just needs to be patient, and the Angels need to be patient *with* him. A full season at Rancho would make sense, and I bet he takes off in summer as the weather warms.
The kid’s stolen 85 bases in just under 700 PAs. He remains a really dynamic prospect.
The only thing crazier than pinch hitting for prime Barry Bonds Jr, is pinch hitting for The Meck and his 1970’s LA County Sheriff’s stash.

our 2025 draft picks aren’t terrible!
Now if we could only see Bremner and Shores pitch again!
They’ve been down for the count with an undisclosed illness for the entire month of May.

The difference between Urena and Detmers is Urena’s ability to not have a melt down. Detmers is more talented with better stuff but often has an inning where he loses his release point or can’t locate. Urena is just a great competitor.
I’m with you on the mentality difference between the 2.
Honestly idk if Detmers has the better stuff. Walbert’s sinker and changeup is dynamite. Velo is always going to be the great separator and Detmers FB just isn’t good enough to dominate imo
Yea no way Detmers has the better stuff other than a curveball. Urena threw a 99 mph sinker that moved so much the batter swung even though it nearly hit him. He gets horrible swings and misses at his changeups. I was laughing at that 99 that struck that guy out, it was so sick.
LIGHT IT UP! Are we gonna sweep? Seemed impossible three days ago. Arte sucks now amd forever.
Siri is a Genius!
Calls for a calls for challenge and pitcher thinks he doesn’t know the strike zone and throws 2 balls. Siri works the walk and Oz cashes in. Voodoo mind f$%# the pitcher
Then Siri gets thrown out at home when it wasn’t a force play. Yeah, genius.
