Mets vs. Angels Game Recap

We struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of early traffic to grab a quick lead. After a messy sequence that could’ve killed the rally, Soler delivered with a clutch single to center, bringing home Zach Neto and giving the Angels a 1-0 edge.

That lead didn’t last long.

The Mets answered in the fourth inning with one swing, as Mark Vientos launched a two-run homer to center. Flipping the game and putting New York ahead 2-1. It was one of the few mistakes on the day for the Angels’ pitching staff, but it proved costly in a low-scoring game.

From there, our offense struggled to regain momentum. Despite a handful of baserunners and opportunities to apply pressure, they couldn’t find the timely hit to even things up. The lineup repeatedly stalled in key spots, continuing a frustrating trend of missed chances.

Any hope of a late comeback was effectively shut down in the eighth, when the Mets blew the game open. Vientos struck again, launching his second homer of the night, a two-run shot to left to extend the lead and put the game out of reach.

New York kept the pressure on right after, with a double from Benge bringing in another run to make it 5-1. At that point, it was less about a comeback and more about damage control, as the Angels’ bullpen couldn’t keep things within striking distance. The offense, meanwhile, never found an answer after the early innings, going quiet when it mattered most.

When you are literally the worst team in baseball, every series is embarrassing.

I’m enjoying my rewatch of “The Sopranos” far more than this team

The stadium is rat infested, and not just in the baseball operations offices?

This is in addition to not having functioning HVAC last season?

Has anyone seen Arte, Monte Burns and Scrooge McDuck in the same place at the same time? Could they be one in the same?

(Yes, as of late April 2026, a concession stand at Angel Stadium (Section 432) was closed by Orange County health officials due to a rodent infestation. Inspectors found rodent droppings and a hole in the ceiling, but the Angels reported the issue was addressed, cleaned, and cleared for reopening by early May.)

Last place or bust. Let’s go get the #1 overall in 2027. Not that they won’t blow that draft too.

They aren’t drafting for the best players they are drafting for the least expensive players

Correct. Got to get that 27th round over slot at a cheaper rate, especially if they are not on any draft analysts lists.

And people on this board get accused of hopium. The view from on top of Perry’s unicorn must be amazing for him to think we’re close to turning it around.

He is clueless. He’s a moron. He sounds like a person that got interviewed in the stands. Is he happy to know that the team has the worst defense in the league. Rhett Bollinger is almost as clueless as Perry.

Bob: thanx for the link to the incredibly fireable Minasian article.

Also: anytime you see the question mark in a URL, you can trim it from there and it’s still good.

Dax, TJS, out for the year

The good news, though, is that the 2027 draft class is loaded with college pitching and some killer bats. Much better year than this one (or last) to choose in the top five.

If Dax doesn’t return healthy, there’s Landon Hairston, Tomas Valincius, Brendan Lawson, among others.

This year’s number one would have been nice. Whitney was looking like he might be the guy – but his injury is not good timing. He’s got to slide. Too much of a gamble. But he was fun to watch.

Whatever the year, he would still drop down to take a much worse player.

With the top six lotto, I just never assume the worst record earns a team a #1 pick anymore, so tend to look at the top 5-10 players in the class.

2025 in particular was a draft where there was no clear cut #1, going in. This year, there are 5-6 names at top, but the rest of the first and second round is really up for grabs. If you say, “just grab the BPA” folks will respond, which one?

Looks like P12 made a good call. It wouldn’t even have been fun to watch.
