May Day! May Day! Postgame

Who was the worst team today? Well the Mets did nothing in the first inning. Mike Trout singled and Jorge Soler homered for the second time in three at bats against Christian Scott. 2-0 Angels.

Nolan Schanuel then singled. Jo Adell struck out to end the inning

Inning 2

The Mets went three up three down. So did the Angels.

Inning 3

Urena gave up a walk but a double play made sure Urena has faced the minimum number of batters so far. Zach Neto was hit by a pitch and stole second base. We had our first strikeTrout of the game. Zach Neto stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the Mets catcher. 3-0 Angels.

Moncada contributed his second strikeout. Jorge Soler wasted the Angels last pitch challenge and then bounced out to end the inning.

Inning 4

Bo Bichette singled and Juan Soto walked. Brett Baty worked a two out walk to load the bases. Marcus Semien flied out to Adell to end the top of the fourth.

Whew! The Angels went three up three down for their part.

Inning 5

The Mets went three up three down to start this inning. The Angels answered by going down in order.

Inning 6

Walbert Urena took a 103 MPH shot off his knee from Bo Bichette. 103 to the knee! He left the game. Schiest! Who’s next in the depth chart? Brent Suter came in to pitch for the moment. Juan Soto also singled. Then Francisco Alvarez singled to drive in Bichette. 3-1 Angels. Brett Baty grounded out and Suter was replaced by Chase Silseth. Silseth served up something in Semien’s hot zone and the result was a tie game. We got our second strikeTrout to lead off the Angels half of the inning. Moncada flied out to third. Jorge Soler grounded out.

Inning 7

Jose Fermin came in to pitch and he coughed up a homer to Ronny Mauricio to make it 4-3 Mets. Of course he did. He got out of the inning without giving up any more runs. The Angels went three up three down, including pinch hitter Oswald Peraza.

Inning 8

Nick Sandlin came in to replace Jose Fermin. Austin Slater singled but Francisco Alvarez grounded into a double play. Sandlin then walked Brett Baty. Baty was caught stealing to end the Mets half of the inning.

Vaughn Grissom came in to pinch hit for Travis d’Arnaud and struck out. So did Adam Frazier. Zach Neto mixed things up by grounding out.

Inning 9

Sandlin retired the Mets in order. Mike Trout struck out for his third time. So did Yoan Moncada. Jorge Soler grounded out to the shortstop. The Angels lose 4-3.

Apart from Neto being super glue’d to leadoff, today’s lineup is more logical:

Actually not at all in my opinion. It’s same mistakes over and over.

Peraza & Grissom
are solid choices over Moncada & Fletcher.

Neto at leadoff is dense. Ditto for Schanual in the 3-hole.

And Lowe playing at all.

This lineup is still pretty terrible.

Glad to see Peraza and Grissom out there though for sure.

To me, putting a singles hitter with little fear of doing damage behind Trout is just ridiculous. I’d have Adell or Soler behind him.

Agree. Schanual in the 3 hole is f’ing ridiculous.

Yep – Trout walk and Schanuel single does not give up a run. I might even like Neto behind Trout. Schanuel, Trout, Neto… is an option. Trout, Neto… is an option. This looks like an order set by Nerds that don’t understand the nuances of pitching around guys and protection. It’s like the strategy is about getting Trout walks.

On a baseball related note, the possibility of the Phillies trading Harper is (maybe?) heating up:

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25424071-bryce-harper-trade-landing-spots-amid-phillies-disastrous-start-2026

The corollary to a potential Mike Trout is fairly obvious IMO.

I hope they both get traded…

With Vegas opening next year – and it being Harper’s hometown. I’m just sayin’.

JJ (or anyone else) – Go re-watch that Carlos Pratas vs. Jack Dela Madalena fight on Paramount+ and if you watch that and tell me you still prefer boxing, you’re lying. Haha

Kicks, knees, elbows, punches. Beautiful violence.

It’s worth 20 minutes of your time to be sure.

Moncada is almost there! A few more months in the 3-hole will 1000% get him and our floundering offense going.

Why would we want to play Peraza or Grissom?

I don’t care if it’s Perry or Suzuki making the lineup, send them to Siberia

They’re trolling us with these lineups at this point.

Not only should Moncada not be in the 3-hole, he probably shouldn’t be on the team. I’d rather give anyone else those at bats in this lost season.

yea when they have Moncada 3rd and Lowe like 7th they are pretty much making sure there is an automatic out every single inning.

It’s way past time to sell the team, MoronO. Until you do, Fire MinASSian today.

No desire to see this team for the foreseeable future. I am heading to Phoenix to see the D-backs and the Angels, but that is mostly my yearly trip to Chase Field. So what do you think, can the Mets sweep? Losing nine consecutive games to the dregs of both leagues is a heavy lift, but this bullpen can do it.

Every day you think it can’t get any worse, and then it does. It’s one thing to lose in Oakland or Tampa but it’s hard to believe MLB is ok with what Arte is doing in this Market. He’s not middle of the road anymore, he’s at the bottom. And as bad as the Mets have been, they won’t stay there year after year.

I fell asleep after Silseth allowed two runs to score, just wanted to rest my eyes, ya right. Woke up brushed my teeth, ran a comb through my hair ran to the desktop with seconds to spare, the screen awoke really bright, got to the MLB site, searched for the button that said scores, learn when it rains it really pours, something in my head went ping, winning isn’t everything, being an Halos fan is hard to take, hoping for wins that we won’t make, but tonight we will win for real, so Angels in the sky let’s make that a deal.

Going to the game tonight, my wife thought it would be a great idea to take friends and surprised me by getting dozen tickets. Obviously not pleased with that. Been to 5 games so far and all were losses. Have little desire to go right now and here we have spent serious cash on tickets. Arte is an idiot thinking fans don’t care if the team wins or loses. I just helped him fill seats in front of his lousy product.

I have to say, my IIWPP is looking better all the time. The team would be roughly in the same position, with less payroll and a far better, by leaps and bounds, minor league system set up to make the team competitive from 2028 and beyond. This team doesn’t have enough fire power in the minors get them to .500 by 2029. Yeeeesh.

Depends on a couple of events taking place. If Arturo and PTP are still around in ’28 if we are winners.

Well, they answered the age old question of which team is worsy!

Senator_John_Blutarsky

The season thus far reflects the Angels strategy, so why would Arte fire anyone?

Arte has publicly stated that winning was not in the top 5 priorities based on his interpretation of fan objectives.

Perry stayed within budget, which is always job one for Arte’s businesses.

The Angels have won some games, thus Perry has the team competing. Competing has been publicly stated by both Arte and Perry as being important.

People are still buying tickets.

Suzuki did the unthinkable and accepted a one year contract as a first time manager. It was never the intention of Arte to bring him back.

The only real payroll commitment beyond 2026 is Trout, and Trout is an entertaining player. Arte loves entertaining players as they put butts in seats.

Molly Jolly knows her survival is linked to Arte’s happiness. She’s not going to change the trajectory.

The only people seemingly upset with this situation are not those that Arte considers relevant.

This was the plan. The plan is working.

7 straight losses, halfway to Maddon getting fired. So what would be Suzuki’s magic number?

Why fire him when it would only increase Arte’s business expenses this season?

When Maddox was fired, winning was the main objective. Ohtani and Trout were supposed to win. I doubt that 20 losses in a row would move the needle particularly as Suzuki is Perry’s “guy”.

Well, the team is currently on a 59 win and 103 loss pace, and tied for the second worst W-L record in the MLB. And they just lost to the team with the worst record.

A loss tomorrow vs the Mets and they’ll overtake them to become the worst.

Has yet to pick lower than 13th out of his five years and for a sixth time this July. He’s a lock for a seventh time in 2027. That is, if he is not let go. I think that is 50/50 at this point. Slight lean that Arte will give him another year.

Picking second was like picking 13th, as he was still able to grab a guy ranked around 20.
