The Rendon roster abomination may actually show how desperate Arte is to get costs down. I can see no other reason under the current circumstances not to just let that contract end after this season. Arte may actually be that cash strapped.

Interesting. Not sure Halos have a true 7 percent playoff chance. More like 3 percent seems apt.

7% is really optimistic. There’s a much higher probability of losing 92 games than of winning 92 games.

I’d rank the White Sox chances above ours. Better off season, weaker division.

Yeah, I don’t understand. The Angels have zero chance of making the playoffs. The 4 other teams in our division would all have to die in a plane crash.

Nobody in the AL has a greater than 71% chance at the post season? Seems low. Maybe I am not following.

In the NL, while Atlanta should be better in 2026 than last year but don’t get how they are ahead of the Phillies, Cubs , Mets.

Interesting note on Siri.

I called Kyren Paris agent last week hoping to set up an interview. He told me Paris left him last year for Scott Boras but that he had several free agents looking for deals including Jose Siri and if any of them signed I should call him back.

I remember saying Siri is a good candidate to land here but didn’t give it a ton of thought. Seems like this has been in the works for a bit.

Now to see if I can set something up with Siri.

Angels announce Yoan Moncada deal and DFA Cody Laweryson. At this point it’s obvious the Angels have to keep Rendon on the 40 man for whatever reason. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/02/angels-designate-cody-laweryson-for-assignment.html

Victory+ has been a massive win as a Ducks fan but I cant imagine MLB would allow any team to do a free service. They will want to gatekeep and charge a subscription fee.

people complain about the lack of spending already

going to Victory+ would absolutely kill revenue streams

But then again, maybe that’ll cause an absolute “fire sale” that some fans want.

But it would also extend that lack of spending window that might cause fan favorites (Neto, for example) to be traded and/or leave via free agency

I already called for a fire sale, why, because this team will be bad till the end of this decade. The players that should be moved are Neto, Adell, and Soriano. Those are the only guys who are worth a damm that other teams would actually want.

I’ve been a fan for too long. IMO this team will have the worst starting nine since these guys:

The saving grace of 1975 was getting to watch Ryan and Tanana pitch in half of the games.

FungoAle

Whew, that starting nine looks like dookie. Good call. The 1975 California Angels ripped a total of 55 home runs that year. With modern hitting techniques such as elevation angels, that team might have hit 57 homers.

Yep, Aase became a decent reliever but was never the starter that they had hoped for. The Angels had to move Remy to let Grich second base as they tried Grich at SS in 1977 and he ended up with a bad back if my aging memory is correct.

Tickets were cheap and you could sit anywhere you wanted and still see all the great players on the other teams. And, you could watch Ryan pitch every time he pitched at home. It was actually way more fun than it is now.

Mickey Rivers, the Miami Greyhound! Anyone else there in 71 when he took a stab at Guinness greatness with an around the diamond time? he went 14 seconda and change, stumbling into home. Wasn’t really close to the 13.3 “World Record”. A silly stunt, but was he faaaast!

Later, he cemented his legendary status when he handed his “lucky home run in it” bat to Bucky Dent in a game against the Red Sox in 1978 that apparently was important.

One more usless bit of information: His final game in MLB was as a member of the Rangers September 30,1984 – Mike Witt’s perfect game.

Perry has zero strategy to this season. Just fill the gaps with bums and expect a losing season. Great process arte, perry, and co, you guys are great.

I think that IS a strategy. If they actually play kids and maybe actually trade some guys then…. HOLY CRAP, it’s a tear down! Then yes. You see a giant pile of bums. Of course, the bummer is that we don’t have much of a farm, but hey, we couldn’t trade guys last year because we were balls deep all in on chasing being a team chasing the play offs sort of. Arte wanted it. Gubi wanted it. I’m sure Carpino wanted it. CtPG Guy wanted it. Perry is paid to tell us he wanted it too. If we had traded guys last year we would have been giving up, plus who would we have watched all of August and September?

At least we have NOT reloaded this off season. Let the Stevenson contract die. Get Rendon further off the books. Get Kikuchi off the books soon. Maybe this year we don’t have a crap draft. If they are deep in the tank trade a bunch of guys for prospects. There isn’t much point to buying talent right now other than faking effort, so I’m glad they aren’t.

But I think there is a direction. And it’s a tear down. And who knows? Maybe even a team sale. But the roster? It will be bums and kid bums for a while.

The good news, we will hopefully see more kids play this year, something I think Washington was kinda uncomfortable with.

Nah it smells like Arte is on the way out and he’s trying to maximize the amount of revenue for 2026 as he’s projecting a lock out in 2027 (so no income) plus a huge decrease in media rights due to no TV conract.

I still don’t get why the Angels stretched that ugly contract. Curt of all, they are not trying to compete so beat to just swallow the whole pill now. Also, if the salary cap decision goes in favor of the owners, Angels would have to account for that POS in successive years. This organization….

Well, Arte said the Angels were on track to lose “40 to 50 million dollars” in 2025, and with little hopes for 2026, lowering that number by any amount would seem prudent for any business.

Sure, he could back up a Brinks truck and do what most fans want, shoveling tens of millions into the franchise from his personal wealth, but he didn’t become a billionaire being stupid.

I think Perry’s strategy for the year is the same as stated in Moneyball for the manager: Put a product on the field this season is a way he can explain in job interviews next year. Stated otherwise, this is what we did and it isn’t my fault.

Paywall issues. Last in MLB or AL or AL West?

Angels are in competition with the White Sox to finish last in the AL. The gap to finishing higher is large. Perry has 5th place in the AL West locked up with the A’s ascending.

MLB-wise, the Rockies will finish last with the Nats, White Sox and Halos rounding out the bottom four.

The Angels do qualify for the lotto this year but not sure if that is a benefit with Tim Mcllvaine and Minasian making the selections. It will be a good year to drink beer.

This is where the “no farm” thing hurts. If we hit on a lotto guy like Siri and we had a farm that told us we were likely to be competitive soonish I’d keep him. The keepers not only need to be keepers but they need to be under team control for like 4 or 5 years in order to matter for us. The lotto within the lotto.

Our farm is so shitty that I’d trade just about ANYONE with enough value to get us position player prospects that are 50 grade.

Angels are still stocked with players who K a ton. Siri adds to that pile.

No word on Meckler being snagged off waivers so hopefully he sticks with the organization. A minor league mix of Siri, Meckler, Teodosio, Lugo is not great but 4 lottery tickets are better than one.

Since we are still bargain hunting I’d love to be Romo’s 5th team this offseason. I think defensivly he’s amazing and he would give us more depth at the position.
For Siri, it makes sense for him. There is a need in CF and if he’s showing promise he makes sense to make the team.
I think Perry is going to 7/11 and buying all the different scratchers from them hoping that at least 1-2 of them should pay for the load.
For being in the last year of his contract, I will give him prop’s that we are set up for a 2028 clean slate for payroll, with a good amount of youth on the way. Let’s hope we can have them take a step forward in 2026.
I for one am happy that July-Sept tickets are going to be cheap and easy to get this year!

My son actually spent some time with him this past winter as he was in town (He’s a catcher too). We are good friends with his cousin and it was great to get some insight on what MLB guys do to train and get better. I know I’m being a HOMER trying to root to get him close to home again, but I do think he would bring value to the org.

Our problem with Romo will be the same as everyone’s. We have two catchers on the roster. So Romo needs to pass through wavers to stay in our org. At that point, he keeps getting picked up by teams who want to try to pass him through wavers….
