LA Angels Thursday News Crash:

The Angels claimed Kaleb Ort off waivers from the Yankees and DFAd Wade Meckler in the corresponding move. Maybe they think Meckler will make it through waivers unclaimed. The Yankees also designated Michael Siani for assignment.

Jhonathan Diaz just got outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma.

The Nationals claimed infielder Tsung-Che Cheng from the Mets and DFAd Konnor Pilkington in the corresponding move.

Reese McGuire got a minor league deal with the Brewers. The Rockies acquired infielder Eduard Julien and right-hander Pierson Ohl from the Twins for Jace Kaminska and cash. They will also designate outfielder Yanquiel Fernandez for assignment. The Rockies also traded reliever Angel Chivilli to the Yankees in exchange for T.J. Rumfield. This deal was the reason for the designation of Michael Siani.

Perry is just so silly with his dumpster diving adds and drops. You can’t get this level of entertainment from any other GM.

The laughs just won’t stop.

I have been a Rams fan since I was six years old and the Angels since I was nine. It’s very interesting to be a fan of possibly the best and worst run ranchises respective to their sports. The Rams leadership group could turn this around in no time.

I thought this was interesting. It’s five days old so this may have been seen before. maybe has some points for Jeff’s CBA piece.

We hardly knew ya Mr. Bido

Angels have acquired LHP Jayvien Sandridge from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations.

In a corresponding 40-man roster move, RHP Osvaldo Bido was designated for assignment.

Big power lefty with heart-attack control issues and moderate success at AAA. But the Ks are enticing… https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=sandri000jay

Perry is clinging to his 4-leaf clovers hoping he can outright Bido and Meckler to SLC. I guess it’s the ultra poor man’s way to try and build AAA depth?

Lot of FA talent out there still… but none of it in center. Looks like it’s a Teo/Lowe platoon or the 20-year-old! https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-free-agents-2025-2026

It’s Rada I believe, Teo can come in defensively.
Lowe is a corner OF and will play against RHP. Perry was just talking shit.

Rada is Teo’s equal defensively or close to it. But there is a RH/LH platoon possibility there.

Are you sure? They picked up Meckler and Lowe, said Lowe might figure in at CF, then DFA’d Meckler. I’m thinking Lowe might actually be part of a CF platoon.

You are going to put Soler in left field …. at Angels Stadium? Oh boy, that is going to be entertaining. If I’m the opposing manager I’m putting a lefty on the mound every game if a series.

Ooof. All the ugly of a rebuild…. with none of the prospect hope. But who knows? Maybe magic is real and Nolan, Moore and Rada EXPLODE onto the scene? Likely? No. But not impossible.

yes opening day line-up.
everyone in this line-up should be better in 2026 than 2025.

just need better pitching, and more pitching.

It’s hard for me to see the first five having a much better season than last. Maybe Neto and Schanny improves a tick or two on defense. I am not seeing a significant jump in offense from those five.

can Trout get any worse? Lordy I hope not.
Likewise Moncada – just stay healthy.
Jo figured it out in June; the thinking is just replicate the last half of the year to a full one.
Schauny can hit it, just more muscles (and less HR robbed)

Neto was a stud last year – that’s the only one I can see with a drop off.

Logan has been really screwed up at the plate for the last 1.5 years. Hopefully Brady can do something to get him to be selective at the plate.

January is the last month without baseball. Three weeks from today Cactus League play begins and the Angels play their first game the following day.

College baseball starts a week sooner than that.

Go baseball! MiLB and college have a ton of great stuff going on. Tigers, Reds, Brewers, White Sox, Rays, D Backs all look at least interesting, kinda like the Cubs too. If the Orioles break down and spend on a starter they are interesting too. What will it take for the Guardindians to not plop down in the play offs by October? Plus the Angels. They are still a major league baseball team with young guys on it I’ll root for. A plethora of gifts!

My wife and I plan to attend more Quakes games this year to watch the younger players, and who knows, maybe we’ll even see one of them in Anaheim at some point in the future.

Coaching staff formally announced, very happy Tim Buss is back.

Came over with Maddon, then kept on with Nevin, Wash and now Suzuki. Righteous.

Outside of Maddux, my favorite part of the coaching staff is having dudes who played major league ball this decade (Suzuki, Eaton, Stassi). Having coaches who are receptive to analytics because it was a part of their playing careers and know how to apply them is a welcome sight after Wash, Nevin, Maddon.

I completely forgot about fan fests. When was the last time the Halos held one? Gotta be a while.

What would an Angels fan fest even look like these days? I envision it being similar to when a player does an autograph event at a local car dealership, just with no cars around.

ESPN ranks our farm system 27th. If you’re not last, you’re first!!

The Angels have bounced between the 23rd-ranked and 30th-ranked farm system over the past five years. Zach Neto, Jose Soriano, Reid Detmers, Jo Adell, Logan O’Hoppe and Nolan Schanuel have shown some returns in that period and I’m optimistic about some of the pitchers from the past few drafts and George Klassen, acquired in a trade.

Denzer Guzman and Nelson Rada look as if they could be regulars soon, while Joswa Lugo and Raudi Rodriguez have some potential in the lower minors. The cupboard isn’t bare, but it’s not quite as stocked as you would like.

I’m looking into Klassen in more detail. His underlying metrics are better than his ERA. He’s an interesting guy to follow as camp opens.

There’s an expressway to playing center field open for Rada. He just has to prove he can hit a little. Another fun camp story.

…and if he can’t hit, he can share jerseys with Teodosio and reduce the clubhouse attendant’s laundry duties.

I met a baseball writer, east coast guy, when I was at Cooperstown, he was there for the Ichiro induction, and we talked a little baseball, when he found out I’m an Angels fan, the first name he mentioned was Klassen. He seemed pretty high on him being something in MLB.

His name reminds me of delicious pickles. So that’s another reason to be high on him. If he makes it up to the MLB we should call him Pickles.

It is true that a team really only needs about six guys pitching/position to break out and the team changes. Of course it’s also true that you need about 30 prospects to get those six. But it could happen. Be fun if it does.

I still hold onto my pathetic hope that Randy De Jesus will figure out how to make contact more often based solely on the fact that I watched him take batting practice twice and thought he hits the ball very hard…. full on science.

He forgot how to hit doubles in 2025… but he did crank 18 jacks. At age 20 in High-A. There’s still hope!

The Athletic: #29
Fangraphs: #26

MLB Pipeline has not updated their farm system rankings list yet, though backing out from their prospect points system would put the Angels in the bottom three.

But this is also the time of year where fans say that (a) rankings are BS, (b) most prospects fail so rankings are BS, and (c) the Angels system is deeply underrated so rankings are BS.

Something for everyone!
