LA Angels Tuesday News Crash:

Tigers Assistant General Manager Sam Menzin resigned before he could be fired for sending lewd photos to female staff members.

Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrera is on the injured list with left knee inflammation.

The Athletics selected the contract of right-hander Jason Alexander. The Astros also selected a right-hander, Logan VanWey. For their part, the Red Sox selected right-hander Robert Stock. The Brewers acquired Quinn Priester from the Red Sox for Yophery Rodriguez, a Competive Balance pick and cash or a player to be named later.

Let’s get the win boys! Why MLB has us playing so many road game despite being in the best climate for April will always be a mystery.. But what are we to expect from a league that airs playoff games opposite Maury Povich reruns and the View.

TB was supposed to be a home game, but playing outside the dome caused them to swap some home/away series with TB. As for the rest? MLB hates the Halos.

Since I was expecting to be 3-15 at the end of this road trip I’ll be ecstatic if we’re 10-8. 11-7 and I’d need to be revived

Solid lineup. I’d be so tempted to keep Logan in the lineup, particularly after an off day yesterday.

Anderson replacing Newman evens that out, though.

Might be running into a “preferred catcher” day off already. That’s all internal stuff that I don’t have a problem with if it’s the case. If Travis Hendricks makes for a lower ERA I’m all for it. Logan’s not gonna be short on playing time.

We were talking some about bad owners below. It got me thinking.

I am going to the A’s v Angels series next month. It’s gonna be cool in that little ball park. It’s unique. It has a shelf life. From what I hear A’s fans from the days when Sac was their AAA team go, so do Oakland guys. BUT they are indeed moving to Vegas.

I think the owners have really screwed the pooch with their whole trying NOT to link themselves to Sacramento. It’s three years guys. Not three months. Between Sac/East Bay it’s like 4 million people.

Why not embrace being The Goonies of baseball? Why not tell Sacramento “Hey, thanks for having us. We are gonna play our asses off in this weird situation and be your boys for three years. Let’s get some play off baseball into this dinky stadium!” Why not spend those three years gaining maybe 100K die hard fans for when you move to Vegas? All you have to do is put Sacramento on your road uniforms. Hell, do a city connect uni too. Have some fun. Make it a whole campaign, “thanks for having us, come stay at our house in Vegas baby!”. Make some fans. WTF not?

It just seems stupid to try and act like you’re not sleeping on your cousin’s couch while they build your house. You can make it a good time A’s, you could even make it profitable down the line, but you don’t want to.

As a former Sacramento resident I can tell you the RiverCats enjoyed huge support when they were the AAA team of the A’s and would often outsell them. Sacramento is great when it comes to supporting their teams. The Kings were horrible for decades but always sold out.

Fischer should give Sacramento exactly what you said. It would make folks happy and build goodwill.

The most annoying thing is it basically means changing a few signs, some website text, and a uniform or two. And boom. Even if their fanbase only increases by 3% it’s worth it. Especially since everyone will be streaming soon and A’s fans in Sac can totally watch them in LV.

Don’t get over-confident. If there is one thing we’ve learned from Angels history it is that catastrophe strikes when you least expect it. And in that vein, you can be swept and sent into a tailspin at any time.

For example, this Rays team themselves just got swept by Texas. Jeff always says he hates playing a team that just got swept, and I fully agree. They will be angry and focused. On paper they are the kind of team that does not scare you but when you play them it is always a dog fight… They have been a nemesis for us in recent seasons as well, including winning the season series last year. Of our upcoming opponents I think the Rays, the Giants and the Rangers are all capable of sweeping us, and scare me.

While I do not think we will get swept in Houston this weekend the Astros are still dangerous as well.

We seem to REALLY be underestimating the ASSStros. Folks. Look at their roster. They are still really good. They are better than us. So are the Rays and Rangers. I’m hoping we are just hotter and they are colder and we keep the wins rolling in, but 4-5 on this trip would be fine for me. 3-6 is actually realistic. If we are over .500 at all for these three teams I’m gonna be really stoked.

We’ll know this team turned a corner if we start beating teams like the Cardinals, A’s, Pirates, Twins, Blue Jays etc etc. But we’re still gonna lose to teams that are stacked more often than we beat them. Still, if after 162, we lost a little less and the run differential is smaller and smaller then the boys are learning.

JackFrost

The Rays don’t have a better roster, but they are the RAYS. So, it is what it is. By hook or by crook they usually find a way to beat us.

Astros minus Bregman and Tucker aren’t nearly as good as usual and our guys are better than usual. So my Usuality Theory indicates an Angels sweep! 🤗

Psychologically and statistically, It’s actually the hot team or player that is most likely to continue to be successful as opposed to the team or player who have been cold and therefore we believe are due.

Desperate for some baseball last night, I tuned in the Giants-Reds game. Logan Webb kept the Giants in the game, but that is not a team that should be 8-1! Just a reminder about drawing conclusions this early in the season.

In other news, Blake Snell is injured again! What a shocking development!

Only one team in our division is hitting thru the first ten, the SacA’s. Who woulda guessed. The A’s quietly have drafted well over the last few years, and it is paying off.

Who has the worst owner in MLB, the Angels, A’s, or Pirates? Inquiring minds want to know 🤓

Born_in_59

The A’s are hitting better than most, but their slash line of .242/.308/.416 has translated into an average of a little over 4 runs per game. Meanwhile the Angels are league average with .234/.303/.411 and averaging over 5 runs per game. Baseball is a crazy game and for my money Pirates ownership is the worst.

On paper, the A’s are probably a better team than us, but you know what? The Angels have been a better team on paper for countless years since 2010 and yet the A’s consistently outperformed them. We are manufacturing runs like a strong team, and we are manufacturing them late and close to pull out W’s. I have no qualms with being the Davids and not the Goliaths just once.

Arte’s not even close to the A’s or Pirates owners. Hell, I’d take him over Cleveland and the Rays owners too even though they manage to win in spite of those guys. The Rockies owners are no picnic either and just because Sidler started spending because he felt death’s cold hand on his shoulder doesn’t mean the Padres aren’t gonna have a money mess soon. The Twins… I’d put Arte about where the Twins owners are.

Gotta remember. CtPG mistakes declaring that EVERY move won’t work when it happens for being right all the time about how bad ownership/FO is. Arte had a plan. He spent close to a billion dollars on it. It failed. It failed mostly because of bad luck, which, again, CtPG thinks you are supposed to be able to plan for even when you lose 60% of your line ups WAR to injury.

But there’s a lot more hope having an owner who you know will at least spend money when ever he stumbles into a situation that works rather than let it slide and collect revenue sharing. If I were the Dolans the last few years I’d have gambled hundreds of millions on making the Indians a strangle hold lock on the AL Central for the next decade and filling their stadium again. Instead they just got a lame new name and a really good prospect pipeline while the Twins, Royals and Tigers have all caught up to them.

Hell, they fixed it this year, but generally speaking the Cubs should be winning the NL Central every year. Their income dwarfs even St Louis. Only the Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox make more money. But Ricketts sucks ass usually and the Brewers are a “threat”.

My next “arte test” is to see if he spends his money pile on locking up Neto and O’Hoppe and maybe some other kids over the next couple seasons rather than blowing a ton of cash on 30 year olds.
