LA Angels Tuesday News Crash:

The Angels had a pretty successful game yesterday. Here is Jorge Soler’s contribution.

Kyren Paris got in on the fun.

Sam Brown chipped in with a grand slam.

Gerrit Cole will have Tommy John surgery and miss all of 2025. So how do they go about evaluating a player’s health?

It appears the Dodgers and Dave Roberts have agreed to a four year extension. The Braves reportedly made an offer of unknown magnitude to Yasmani Grandal, only to be turned down by him.

Former Yankees and Orioles southpaw Art Schallock passed away at the age of 100.

Former big league slugger Mo Vaughn has confirmed he used human growth hormone to recover from a nagging knee injury late in his career.

The 1995 American League MVP told The Athletic in a recent interview that he had HGH injected into his knee to extend his career.

another look into the intricacies of Angels players who could break camp with the big league club, this time, Shaun Anderson who has been tinkering with a kick change since 2019

Mmmm. Anderson has looked a lot better than I thought he would when we brought him in. Man, we have a lot of relief arm decisions to make….
I almost feel like the team should start looking at who has neutral splits, or may develop them, since we may want to go with “best arm available” a lot of the time in our draft of broken no-name pitchers.

Big day for Mershon, leading off and starting at SS.

I don’t know when he will make it to Anaheim or if ever, actually. But if he does make it, I think he will stay a long long time.

Minors games have even more flexibility than regular spring training games. They clearly have a target for pitches and/or up and downs for Hendricks.

I’m going to take a flyer of a guess here. I don’t think Northwest Classen has any pitchers going D1. Holliday – 2 HR’s and a triple. LOL

Good day for their entire team. Look at the top half of the lineup. And that’s HS 6A baseball in OK which is good baseball. (Typically that is.) 38 runs in 4 innings. Ouch. Cousin Brady, Josh’s kid, scored 6 runs in 4 innings. LOL

Last year I got carried away with “hopeium” in setting the over under at 73 wins as most here chose the under and were right. This season not having Neato from the gate and inserting Newman changes a lot of the projecting the O/U in wins. Not only will his bat be greatly missed, but his glove and leadership will also be greatly missed. The 2025 Angels have a lot of stone glove fielders and that does not bode well for the pitchers, especially the ground ball inducing guys.

Hopium’s alright in March. It’s when you’re supposed to look at what COULD actually work. Sure, a lot of that stuff won’t work. But it’s a positive time, when the team’s focused on finding positive things the team can try. Nothin wrong with some Spring Hopeium. It’s totally safe and doesn’t do any of the irreparable harm some folks seem to be terrified of around here.

July Hopium. That’s the dangerous one.

So, the Yankees have lost Cole to TJS. Still rather have had him the Rendone though. Hard throwers seem to always need 1-3 TJS. I’m thinkin’ having control pitchers is better than having more 100+ mph guys is the way to go as both are hard to find. Does this Spring seem to have more injuries to players than what be called “normal” for all teams? It may just be me maybe, but it sure seems like it. That CF sliding catch by Mickey was darn good, now if he could only hit some.

I’d rather have a lot of players that rathered their way to other teams. Cole always wanted to be a Yankee and used Arte to get his price tag up. Wheeler is the guy I’d rather have at this point, and he was closer to signing with us, but his wife really wanted to return home to South Jersey and Wheeler must be one of those assholes who loves his wife and kids more than baseball because he went to Philly for her. On the good side, their fans are more fun and less negative than Angels fans. At the time, we had had season after season of shitty third basemen I’d rather have replaced with Anthony Rendon. So we signed him so we wouldn’t waste Trout and Pujols and Ohtani. Thankfully Steven Strausburg completed our orgs failure to land ANY of the great pitchers in that FA class and rathered signing with Washington….. as did Patrick Corbin and his awesome contract that the Angels “almost” beat out even though he had openly said he wouldn’t sign with a West Coast team.

Life is a trip carnel.

I’m with on most of this, you lost me on the part of Philly fans being less negative. I’d saying being around them when they are losing is worse. I will agree they are less fair weathered than a lot of Angels fans.

It was a joke since they are famously bad…. though recent Philly fans seem pretty supportive when a player struggles. Maybe the Eagles winning has made em more go getter….

Remember how pissed we were that we didn’t land ANY of Lindor, Corea, Story, Seager or Baez? When, after Lindor and Seager went to their teams for huge money we got all 2am thirsty and started demanding Arte show his commitment to whining by at least signing Story or Baez? That was some hard core rathering too….

At least we were all smart enough to fear Correa’s injury risk, although he’s been good when he plays and is a real leader on the Twins. But if he’d been hurt that often on our club we’d have all turned on him in year two.

FWIW I never thought any of those guys would be a good move. Possible exception with Lindor as I love his energy and selfishly would have enjoyed watching him play more.

Yeah. Lindor was the guy I wanted, but also knew he wasn’t coming here.

For me it was also Lindor, I love his glove work. Gitch is right though, every season there is a list of players, although different players on each list, that everyone has wanted. For me it was Cole, and in each season, it seemed he paid off. Long term contracts, over 5 years seem to only benefit the players with Ohtani maybe the exception sort of. Now it is going to be fun to see how the next draft works out, and it might just get us back to winning in a few years.

Long contracts don’t seem to work for anyone but the player. It takes a player who is incredibly self motivated when life changing money is involved and who also hit the genetic lottery in terms of durability to make it a great investment. I almost don’t care who the player is at this point. Cole is the poster child in terms of good form and build but they all throw closer to 100% than ever before.

Ohtani can make the Dodgers so much money in the next five years that they will be golden.

Soto is a great one dimensional player that will also be an albatross contract within five years in my opinion. With him it’s not the years but the miles since he started playing long seasons at such a young age.

Soto is interesting because he started so young, we’ll see if those miles count as much. He could end up like Miguel Cabrera. But he’s such a good hitter, he may stay above average for his whole career, even after he becomes a very expensive DH. He doesn’t seem like the type, but he’s so talented, if he went all “Tom Brady” now and tried to make his body a super machine when he’s in his mid-30s he could stay really good really long. If I were the Mets I’d try to get him to buy into being “Ted Williams” and getting 3500 hits by the time he retires, etc.
