Luis Rengifo is considered questionable for opening day due to his nagging hamstring issue.
Dodgers right-hander Michael Grove had surgery on his shoulder and will miss the 2025 season. Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez has a fractured left hand and will miss 6-8 weeks. Gerrit Cole may be headed for Tommy John surgery. Mariners pitcher George Kirby is likely headed to the IL with shoulder issues.
Rays owner Stu Sternberg is under a bunch of pressure to sell his team. This relates to a stadium deal and hurricane Milton.

I had to share this one with y’all. Softball game in Texas last week. Sometimes scorers don’t see plays the same way. Look at the line score. They had more of a pitching dual in the rematch – with a final score of 24-25.
The Yankees…. I wonder if they’d take Anderson off our hands for a guy like Brock Selvidge… or some pile of Mani Cedeno, Eric Reyzelman…. Everson Perirera?
I don’t see Perry has a guy who looks two steps down the road. I hope the Yankees do place a phone call, good suggestion.
Do you think the Skanks are finally desperate enough to trade some real prospects?
They really never have under the Cashman regime.
?? You mean accept for most of the trades Perry has made other than the “make the play offs for Shohei’s Mom” trades a couple years ago?
I’m thinking Perry does not realize Andersons regression is upon him and he won’t move to strike the opposition with an offer even though that team has an acute problem in their rotation. There is no deadline upon Perry to get out of the buffet line for 4-months, trade deadline. Any trade discussions will be initiated by the opposing GM.
is it possible other team know what you know and these other teams aren’t offering anything that Perry values over what Anderson brings on and off the field.
But don’t let me get in the way of your Perry hate.
Also keep in mind Perry’s boss thinks he can compete every year and trading away Tyler before the season starts sends the opposite message.
In a nutshell, I can see this being a high probability contributor and could be the reason
Meh, I don’t hate Perry. But what I do hate, the Angels have sunk lower in the standings the last 4-years. At some point, results need to be factored in.
I may be talking shit about (thing) and it may seem like I always hate (thing) but I don’t, so look at (thing B) that everyone will share my bad feels about so I can shit on (thing) some more. Cause you don’t like (thing B) DO YOU!?!?
only Perry has gotten Arte to change his big dollar FA ways.
I don’t think a GM has ever done THAT.
and got him to invest in physical structures dedicated to player development with commitments for further investments.
Yep. We finally get the chance to hate building from the farm up and avoiding FA entanglements. And as a bonus we can bitch about how it’s not really a rebuild because Trout, Rendon and Kickuci are under contract and we have not traded Ward, Rengifo and Anderson yet.
If you love having something to be unhappy about we are in Mama Soprano heaven these days. And it’s all cause the hated Platypus has finally started to turn the ship.
No I think it was more no team was interested in Tyler Anderson with 2 years remaining on his contract unless the Angels were willing to accept a Jadiel Sanchez or Lucky D type “prospect”. So Perry probably said screw it he’d take his chances going he bucks the odd/even trend by keeping him and then trading him at the deadline.
I’m sure all this happened before C & E Arte realized he was going to lose $25 million this year before he whined to the public
I’m sure the Yankees would have their sights much higher than that…..
And if not, why wouldnt they just sign a guy like Gibson or Turnbull?

He’s weird. I like him. I am not in the camp of “oh no, he’s a reliever”. Let him come up this year as a reliever. Just don’t let him settle into a 20 pitch max. It’s been shown all over the place relievers can get stretched out. Not to mention I’m a big fan of the “Pitching Chaos” plan. Make him a once through the order guy….. for now.
Let him start in AA, though. See how he does.
Watching him live he’ll be pretty easy to steal off.
But I love bringing guys up as relievers. Let them get a taste of MLB life. If nothing else settle into the travel and get the butterflies handled.
People be way too offput by the no-leg-kick thing. He’s durable, throws strikes and has a record of success as a starter. He’s a rotation prospect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5CGIaNUUd8
He’s a Patriot, let’s go RJ
Do you complain about FAs getting injured? I know I do. This is a good little tidbit on how FOs try to assess this stuff…

Holliday update:
.458 with 3HR in 8 games. (Not big brother numbers yet.)
I hope he does make some minor refinement but still a longshot for Perry and his college Pom-Poms.
Less and less likely we will have the chance to select him
I hope the Nats do take him but I feel the Angels will certainly have the chance but they wont, just not the GMs method of operation. Concerns about his game has been expressed.
There is no clear stud this year but Arnold does have a plus-plus fastball from a good slotted delivery. Of the top 3 rated pitchers before the season started, Arnold is separating from the pack.
Agreed. I’d much rather take a safer college player, too.
It would be great to nail the 2 pick, but it will suck to blow it.
So I’m ok with Arnold.
We also have plenty of 19 year old infielders in the farm. Probably not as good as Holliday, but we need a 22 year old with some polish and contact skills. I’m not gonna be mad if we take Holiday followed by college guys. That’s fine, it’s all a gamble. But I’d prefer a college guy as well.
Aiva Arquette is starting to really intrigue me. Kid is crushing it to the tune of a .400/.492/.640 slash line right now. Capable of playing second, short, or third.
And this draft is supposedly deep on college outfielders. Snag one of those at 47.
Me too Jeff. He is raking. Especially interesting that physically he looks more like a 3B guy. But there’s rumor he’s got some serious island laziness. With that in mind, let’s see how he holds out for a 56 game college season. I’d be pretty gun shy with a left side infielder with that rep (all things considered).
Saw Moore up close over the weekend and he also looks like a 3B or LFer. Dude is just large.
Yep. He looks really good thus far. If they take him we can complain that he only got “top 2 good” his last year, but I still like him fine.
There are, indeed, so many pretty good college OF out there that as long as you aren’t hung up on playability in CF there will indeed be good guys at #47.
And if we had say pick #36 we could take a solid college arm too.
oh the dreams….
Ethan with 2 jacks so far today. Not sure the pitching is very good. LOL
Silseth gets the start, with Reid coming in relief 👀.
Piggybacking off yesterday’s conversation RE: Silent C vs Detmers — both guys will get plenty of starts this year. No 5-man rotation ever stays completely healthy. That said, when you evaluate the end of last season + ST performance, it is clear who should get the 5th spot.
It’s looking like Newman + TA will be holding down the middle infield spots until Neto and Rengifo are ready.
Which means that neither Kyren or Moore will be making the opening day cut since Wash said Paris isn’t ready and noway the Angels let their vaunted prospect waste away on the pine. That leaves two bench spots open. I suspect Kingery gets one spot since hes already on the 40 man roster with a minor league option left. but it doesn’t seem like any of the other candidates like Noda ( who is on the 40 man with MLO’s left) or J.D. Davis ( signed as a minor league free agent) are doing anything to champion their case for the last spot when Neto and Rengifo are put on the 10 day IL to start the season. .
TA will get added to the 40 man when Bachman gets rolled down the highway yet again to the 60 day IL but Davis or (possibly this guy: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/03/nicky-lopez-expected-to-opt-out-of-minor-league-deal-with-cubs.html. ) would require a 40 man move and no I doubt the Angels will finally cut ties with Suarez who has pitched really well so far this spring.
I think Noda stays too. We need a back-up 1B, and he’s been playing OF too.
Not that the team is not already there but if he stays, we are in deep doo-doo.
Based upon the spring Noda’s having I think you are right Rex. But my concern is that would leave us a little thin in the infield as we would only have 4 guys (TA, Moncada, Newman & Kingery to play the 3 premium infield positions until Rengifo and/or Neto could return.
I know teams don’t manipulate control times, nah, they’d never do that, but I want Moore to start in AAA and see how it goes. It’s like a 3 week window. Do I expect him up? Oh yeah. I think he’s got a chance to be a star. I like giving Anderson a shot to see during that time. We know his potential. Let’s see if he can get it back. He seems like he and Rengifo both can be super utility – role players. I know it’s hopium, but I actually like how things are shaping up. This year competitive. The future is looking better.
But with the new prospect promotion program where teams can potentially get extra draft picks for bringing prospects up at the beginning of the season, I would think Perry and evil Arte would have Moore starting at second base if they thought he was closer to ready.
I think there’s a real chance he could be in contention. I still like the idea of seeing if Anderson can come out quickly, but if Moore makes the roster, I will be celebrating that too.
Blake Ward thinks he’s gonna make the roster out of ST…. for what that’s worth…..
TA has done nothing to secure a MLB contract. Given his last couple of years, he needed to.
Well I’d bet you lots of Ippei bucks Wash and the boys feel strongly otherwise
I’m sure he and Wash are tight so I would not throw any Ippei bucks that he wont but he has not done anything to prove he is deserving.
I think there’s gonna be a fair amount of “see you soon” in our cuts this spring.
It’s not that TA is worth two poops. It’s that any combo of Moore, Paris, Nota, Kavadas, Detmers, Silseth, Rada, Lugo etc can be told to go to the farm and do specific things now, that guys like TA and Hendricks aren’t long term answers, and if they show growth in their early work this year they will be called up.
The Angels have a pretty big stack of “warm bodies” in the rotation, pen, OF and IF all of which will likely not be so good their spots on the 25 man are untouchable and the long ST looks a lot of these guys are getting should be part of an “all of this could be yours” plan for some kids.
On the flip side, Moniak can clearly see that Lugo and Rada aren’t years and years away from taking his job…. same with Adell.
Is it just that I hate the MFY, or is it reasonable to think they’re not going to the playoffs this year? My thought was just that they didn’t have they’re normal injuries last year in a weak league. Stil a weak league but other teams in their division improved some.
They haven’t traded for Jose Suarez yet. You must factor that into the calculation.
they’ve need Giffy for at least a year; hopefully he will get well.
Not sure anyone wants to trade with the Skanks though and we all know PTP is a tough customer.
https://x.com/BeyondTheHalo/status/1897347446533239131
Big Yankee fan online said their farm is ranked 24th so not a lot of trade chips. Maybe they are the East Coast Angels now with bloated contracts and no future? Just a few more years behind. Imagine if the MFY’s decided to rebuild?
We should trade Suarez while the iron’s hot. Then he’ll drop 100 innings of 1.20 WHIP for some other team and we can all “stupid perry” from the darkness of our deep dank sad sacks.
He may actually be in the best shape of his life.
Exactly why I plopped some cash down on the Red Sox at 35-1 to take the crown. Cole is done and Stanton has always been done. Bellinger will get caught up parting in midtown after the games. The AL is wide open. Any team with Bochy running the show will get in the mix. KC my other dark horse is 45-1.
It’s reasonable that the Red Sox are gonna win the division this year and that their fans will compete with the Yankees fans to see which fan base has more venereal disease causing manic acts of asshole.
FYI-I’m day to day.
Everyone is day to day.
I’m only doing light drills to prolong my career. Lol
Don’t sell yourself short.

I’m on the IL collecting a big check.
What a life!
You hanging out at the Rendon estate?
He just poured me a drink.
I’m in a self-proclaimed worst shape of my life.
My Life Alert fell behind the couch…. Can’t reach it. Oh well.
LOL!!!!
I had to run after a customer the other day to stop him from pulling away without his paperwork. It was weird sensation as my mind automatically questioned the pace that I was moving at and went into hamstring monitor mode.
I’m still 14, my body is significantly older.
I am coming off the 7-day IL today after my first (and hopefully last) bout with Covid.
I have 17 days to be ready for Opening Day.
Cripes, heal quickly. We need you to produce!!
I, on the other hand, am in the best posting shape of my life (my 100K+ posts back on HH notwithstanding).
