For those of you new to following Spring Training, this is about the time when starting position players get 3 at bats per game and starting pitchers go about 4 innings and are followed by more guys you know than you don’t. This is my favorite time to attend Spring Training. However, I’m already back from this year’s trip.
Angels vs. Rockies Gamethread
officially, the knife.
New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow to repair a torn right ulnar collateral ligament and miss the 2025 season.
This is how Paris got strong like bull, eating French grilled cheese. Way better than ‘Merica with its white bread and Velveeta
Yeah, despite Wash’s comments insinuating he’s not ready, Paris has been scorching everything he sees.
Good. Maybe that will motivate him even more.
But we might want take this all with a grain of salt as this current Angel batted .378 with 6 HRs and 11 RBIs in 15 spring training games in 2022 and slashed .409/.435/.750 in 18 spring training games in 2023.
But how did this translate into the regular season for Mickey Moniak?
While the hopium is high, do we have our infield of the future? Please let this Paris breakout be real 🙏
C – O’Hoppe
1B – Schanuel
2B – Paris
SS – Neto
3B – Moore
if we’re talking about the future then (cough…cough) I believe Schanuel might not be in that group. I’d like to see him develop more power because .270 with a dozen HRs is not enough
I think you’re just spoiled by all the generational production we’ve been getting out of 1B since we were kids….
A .270 average would have placed Nolan 43rd in all of baseball last year. His actual average was .250. I’ll take a 20 point increase in average even with the same HR rate. Baseball is still ‘hit the ball catch the ball’. Hitting 20 points higher and setting up for Soler, Trout, Ward, and occasionally Adell, would be fine with me. Hell, if all Angel players increased 20 points in average they could make the playoffs.
And to show he great baseball has become, .270 would tie one at 113th place in 2004.
Lo and behold, Fangraphs shows Nolan’s ST average at .269.
As far as being “The Future @ First” Nolan’s off to a nice start but he does, indeed, need to hit for more power. Not a ton. But a 1B with a .270/.340/.380 slash line, while not a BAD player at all, is easily replaced by a lot of players.
I just think it’s stupid to look at a guy who had a first pro season on the MLB team and hit like he did last year and say “Yep. This guy’s just not gonna get it done.”. He’s got stuff that needs doing, but he also seems pretty good and has plenty of time to get to a little more power.
It’s likely to chap some red ass, but it won’t shock me if Nolan doesn’t hit for THAT much more power this year and (Lord Have MERCY!) they still won’t give up on him at age 24 in his third pro season in 2026.
Hi everyone! We have a

And Wash in the back

And it turned into a Halo Blitz!
And other Wash in the corner
Said, “Boys I gotta warn ya,
It’ll turn into a Halo Blitz!”

Halo Blitz…. Halo Blitz…
It’s a Halo Blitz!
IT’S A HALO BLITZ!!!!
sure, spring training, sure, the Rockies, but I’m encouraged by two shutout innings for Detmers
So does anyone know what the Angels thinking was to start Silseth against the regulars but bring Detmers in relief to face the late inning scrubs?
Also. Surprise : I guess Suarez will be starting tomorrow’s away game against the Rangers while Hendricks stays back at camp to do a bullpen/ simulation game. Is this to showcase Saurez for a trade so Detmers can work out of the pen this year?
