Maryvale was a quite little dive bar of a ballpark then they remodeled it just enough to lose the charm but not enough to make it a really nice ballpark.
Angels at Brewers Gamethread
Not surprised, still sad.
“Angels plan to back off with Luis Rengifo because of his hamstring. Ron Washington said Rengifo was already behind after missing time due to illness. Washington said he’s unsure if he’ll be ready for Opening Day”

Say what you want about the Angels drafting and player development, Perry has done really well in the 2 deadline deals last year. I dont think anyone here thought that he would get the prospect ( and quasi prospect) value and volume he got in the Estevez and Garcia trades.
I know there was alot of frustration here that TA, Rengifo & Ward weren’t moved but it would appear that Perry really tries to grind the most out of a deal before pulling the trigger.I know its unhealthy (especially as an Angel fan) to keep focusing on what could have been, but It makes me wonder what an incredible return the Platypus could have got for trading the Unicorn at the 2023 deadline.
Grinding out a deal is fine but a mistake was made not ditching Anderson. I think Perry fumbled this and misread the room.
Maybe I’m naive but it feels like playoff contention teams value trade deadline acquisitions more valuable from a prospect return standpoint if there is not a long term commitment required.Meaning those those that are in the last year of their contract seem to have more trade value than those that have longer commitments. of curse there are exceptions for superstar players like Juan Soto and others that were traded away with at least 2 years of control.
So with that being said players like Rengifo, Jansen, Moncada, Hendricks & even Tyler Anderson ( if he doesn’t struggle with his odd year doldrums) should bring the Angels some incredible returns at the July deadline.
OK, I’ll say what I want!!!
Other than Logan O’Hoppe who else do you mean? Pat Sandoval never turned into a ace…..LOL!!! Keep on drafting 22 yr old college players with a low ceiling of ability because we don’t develop HS or Latin kids anymore.
 😂 💪
Zefer pumping out 100 mph with ease. What was Boston thinking when they traded this dude (+ more!) for Luis Garcia 😂😂😂 ??
This control (and command!) is utterly new for Zeferjahn. He was all heat, but had no idea where the ball was going. He was a 5 ERA pitcher with a BB/9 between 6-8 at most levels since drafting.
He’s a former third rounder, so the talent level has always been high, but the projection was based on velocity over command.
I love Terry Smith but when he’s commenting on games on tv you notice how consistently inaccurate he is
is he even there? The home run calls seem to be like a guy watching his tv and not being able to see anything other than what’s shown. “No one is signaling”…well maybe someone is, just not on camera.
For 50% of the regular season, that’s exactly what Smith is doing.
Moreno doesn’t want to pay his travel expenses to allow him to travel with the team.
I’m surprised C & E Arte even let Terry & Langley call home games inside the stadium versus relegating him to the parking lot production trailer
Part of the problem is if Terry is watching on TV and not at the game but even if he is in the ballpark, his strikes and ball calls can be inconsistent (he might say, that a pitch is outside for a ball, when it was really low for a ball, etc.). With that said, I enjoy listening to him and Mark in particular and he has been the only consistent radio/TV personality for the Angels the past 23 years.
As with his last outing, I think Johnson is ready for the big league bullpen now. He looks like an excellent 7th inning option with Zeferjahn.
Jansen
Joyce
Johnson
Zeferjahn
Burke
McDaniels
Silseth
Suarez
Very strong, balanced pen. Not sure where Quijada fits in there though, and it means one of Detmers or Koch ends up in the minors.
I’m thinking they keep Quijada and stretch Silseth out in Salt Lake City’s rotation.
here’s what Fletch has.
8 relievers:
Locks: Jansen, Joyce, Quijada (L), Burke (L)
Likely: Zeferjahn, Crouse, Suarez (L, long man)
One Spot Left: S.Anderson, McDaniels (L), Peterson, Johnson. (Also maybe a SP like Silseth)

I think Crouse is….fine. But I wouldn’t lose McDaniels for him, and I don’t believe in him, Anderson or Peterson over Johnson at this point.
McDaniels has definitely exceeded my expectations. It’s extremely rare that guys make the jump from single A to the MLB, and rare that Rule 5 selections come from the lower minors and stick it out.
Johnson I liked from the get-go, but assumed he’d stay stretched out at AA. But he may simply have more value for the team as a leverage reliever at this point.
Not sure the Angels will trade or release Quijada so I doubt Silseth makes the pen.Chase’s previous Bullpen assignment was a disaster as he has been much more effective as a starter as long as he can build endurance.
If Chase still has an option, you guys are probably right, and he ends up at Salt Lake.
That said, I don’t think his last bullpen assignment, when the team was very ambivalent and inconsistent about his ultimate role, is predictive of the future. I do think if Silseth were a short reliever for a full season, he could see success.
Quijada will make the team over Silseth and a Josh McDaniels. BTW other than if Quijada is pitching well, I don’t trust any of the pitchers you named below Jyuxe. Crouse is making the team also. He inspires some trust:
He’d have to do so at the expense of Quijada, Silseth or Suarez though, most likely.
Well that settles that.
Apparently the Angels want to see success for a longer season at AAA before they make a move. Let’s hope he forces them to add him to the big boy table. Hes already own the 40 man so the worst they do is burn an option.
But if not Paris, I’m rooting for Scott Kingery then to fill the last bench spot. I am really concerned the Angels are trying too hard to make Christian Moore the feel good Opening Day Roster story a reality. IMO This would be a disaster that would rival the asinine decision to call up Jo Adell for his MLB debut way back during the 2020 COVID season. I do not want to experience that train wreck again.
Matthew Lugo is definitely a major league hitter. Taylor Ward’s days as a Halo are numbered.
Gorman Thomas is now a pitcher for the Brew Crew?
He looks great for 74 years old.
I do that all the time. The Brewers have Bob Hoskins and Mitch Mitchell playing today.
