In this predictions article they predict that Mike Trout will be healthy and return to MVP form. It’s a strange article. They predict the AL Cy Young winner will come from Seattle’s rotation and then right away they predict that Jacob deGrom will win it for the Rangers.
The White Sox acquired left-hander Tyler Gilbert from the Phillies. They sent back right-hander Aaron Combs in exchange.
Catcher Sebastian Rivero has a minor league deal with the Angels. It is unclear whether he is invited to spring training. Moises Gomez got a minor league deal with the Padres.

Just say no to Bregman.
And Alonso.
And Santander.
CBS tagline: MLB rumors: Angels considering Pete Alonso pursuit, two favorites emerge for Alex Bregman
I really don’t know what to feel at this point. Maybe a one year deal?
Jon Heyman is the source. Jon Heyman is a mouthpiece for Scott Boras Pete Alonso is a Scott Boras client.
This is absolute garbage.
His clients are going to end up just like his clients from last year. No one will give them what they want and they will have to sign short agreements with opt outs.
Like Juan Soto did?
Juan Soto is an outlier. He is a 25 year old 8 win player on his way up. Those guys were 30 last year. Bregman has been a 4 win player for each of the last 3 years and Alonso has averaged 3 wins for the last 4. But where as Bregman has been consistently a 4 win player for each of the last 3 years, Alonso has declined from 4.4 to 3.2 to 2.6. Bregman might be a better risk to continue his performance level. Bregman also brings defense with him. Both have been very durable and both could probably be counted on to be .800 OPS and 120 OPS+ hitters. Solid, 20-30% better than average hitters, but probably not all stars.
Hmmm. I guess Blake Snell and Corbin Burnes were outliers too.
Perhaps, but the pitching market is different this year. It happened to snell last year.
Thanks for letting us know Jeff. Any link to Alonso seemed like a stretch.
Yeah. Heyman says the Angels can make room by moving Schanuel to left field. That’s easy for him to say.
Heyman is a total and complete stooge. We have seen this silly game before.
Arson Judge would disagree with you.
Where they can take advantage of his ability to cover lots of ground.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This!
We *hope* it’s absolute garbage. We *hope* it’s a metric ton of bullshit.
It’s the perfect fiction because it’s based on a reliable pattern of the Arte Big Splash.
Grab an older expensive player in visible decline, for too much money, and too many years. Create positional inflexibility (Trout should be in LF, not Schanuel, and Moore is likely a LF long-term too). Burn a draft pick at the worst possible time (great draft position, solid draft class).
That Heyman is a Boras stooge just puts salt in the wound, because this is also a move Arte would eagerly force his GM to make.
the louder the noise, the greater the chance is that it’s bs.
Santander makes very little sense. Alonso makes absolutely no sense haha
Ung. At least I LIKE Pete Alonso. That’s pretty much all the positive I can put on the idea of signing him. It’s a stupid idea that I will likely enjoy. Like malt liquor.
A colossal waste of money, for what he will be asking for.
The article title is “Angels weight pursuit of Pete Alonso”
It’s a metric ton of bullshit. It would be a better use of time worrying about the killer alien drones stalking you….
@ solo-homer … I can see your pending article but all the images you attached say they lack “alt attributes” and I can’t seem to fix them. If we can fix it among the editorial staff, we will.
Non hyphenated Kim has just over 24 hours remaining in his posting window. Rumor mill is eerily quiet of any concrete links to anybody.
Angels were 28th in wRC+ at second base last year. Kim shouldn’t cost a ton and brings a really nice glove and speed on the bases. No power, but if he can get on base that would help.
I have a feeling he goes to SD, but this is a story worth following.
Meet the new Kim. Better than the old Kim?
Who are you, Who Who Who-Who?
Assuming Rengifo is not traded and he sticks at 2nd, where does he play if Kim is acquired? Per Streamer projection Rengifo would be 7th in AL and 3rd in AL West for wRC+ and WAR next season. That seems good enough for me. I do wish Perry would make a decision on this. Sign or trade.
I imagine Rengifo becomes the super-sub that would play any position other than catcher, pitcher or center field. There will always be injuries, illnesses and just needing a day off to keep his bat in the lineup. Or if you want to be cynical, you could just say 3B when Rendon goes down for the season by the tenth game.
I agree ’59. I’ve always felt the Angels wanted to rotate him around the diamond . Rengifo’s defense has always been average to poor so maybe they are afraid to stick him in one spot. The other issue is that although he is a switch-hitter, Rengifo has never hit as well against RHP’s as he does against Lefties so more a platoon role may work best for him.
Teams work great with guys like that, too. Rengifo likely gets a ton of time at third with Rendon hurt, but if not let’s say he plays 2 games per week at third, 1 at short, and 1 at second while other guys rest. There’s a lot of value in that.
I still think Kim goes to SD, but he’s young and toolsy enough to interest me. On a 3 or 4 year deal he could have his MLB adjustment year this year then hopefully be productive about the time the team hopes to be good again.
Neto is starting the season injured. Rendon is…well…Rendon. The team shouldn’t count on him for anything. Even when he’s been in the lineup, he hits like Reggie Willits.
Rengifo has a role on this team and is needed. Trade Ward and Anderson before getting serious about moving Rengifo.
While the WAR prognosticators are treating him nicely, great time to trade him.
I’m still not buying all the rumors about us being interested in Santander and Alonso.
But admittedly it sounds very like us to overpay for a couple of 30 year olds and block our younger players (Adell and Schanuel).
Yeah, I’m with you. While there might be truth of a phone call, zero chance Angels sink money into that garbage. I’m starting to warm up to signing the Kim’s to tighten up the infield; defense, bat to ball skills and speed. I’m not sold Christiam Moore will be ready and I really think this team needs defense and that is a skillset that can be bought, like speed.
.
Apparently you dont know our owner very well. Sinking money on slow footed power hitters on the wrong side of 30 is an Arte special
I got to believe those signings were a result of a jock itch
SBs as an Angel —
1. Albert Pujols = 31
1. Gary Matthews Jr. = 31
3. Vernon Wells = 12
4. Anthony Rendon = 10
5. Josh Hamilton = 7
I’m too GA to check on all of them, but Albert’s 31 total was over 9+ seasons. HGH’s SB total was over 3 seasons.
only 2 seasons! And we signed him for 5 years lol
Hey P12 are those years signed after age 30?
He was 61 when we signed him?
You just surprise me with your ridiculous takes…LOL!!!
Didn’t that other team across town sign Ohtani, Freeman and Hernandez {all 30 or older}.
So what team is going to hand us a 24 yr old slugger for a bag of Doritos?
Maybe we get a 24-year-old slug?
It is funny how it seems like 90% of the people on this site want to sign a free agent that stirs their needle and yet they seem to NEVER pull up their bref and look at their age.
9.5 out of ten times the players in question are gonna be 30. Or 29.5 hurr durr. Rendon was 29. Soto came up at what? Age 19?
They’re all 30 years old people. Pretty much ALL of them. And yet we always see the “wrong side of thirty” take from some chin rubbing idiot every time an FA comes up.
Perry would buy a 24 year old bag of Doritos….
I think Arte would love to add both if the price is right. I think Perry is more inclined to continue the rebuild.
We just don’t know who is actually running the team.
That’s what makes it difficult to speculate on the plan.
Neither will be cheap enough for Grich’s Dad.
Besides their both great players
Hoping that neither work out. Not confident in either player long term. Santander is a straight pass for me.
Well P12, would you be willing to rent?
Arte is putting away Christmas decorations (Supervising who is actually doing the work) so he isn’t available to give any input for Halo business. One could argue if that is a good or bad thing, but since he is the shot caller, it is….neutral?
Gotta compleetly dizugree with you about Wash about yor comment recently.
He sucks!!! Plus he’s the oldest manager in MLB and managed the Angels to their worst record in team history.
(Adell and Schanuel) LOL!!! Devon White and Casey Kotchman 2.0 Trade Jo Adell now while the iron’s hot
Schanuel and Adell at the league minimum or Alonso+Santander at a combined $50-60 mill/year?
Regarding Wash — yea, we sucked last year. It’s an argument I can’t win atm lol.
Schanuel should stay at the MLB minimum.
I think a 3 toed sloth has quicker bat speed Less athletic than one as well, I’d rather wave a sloth around 3rd from 1st than Schanuel. I don’t wanna keep stomping on him However, I don’t care if Schanuel is cheaper than Rizzo, Rizzo is just a way better player when healthy.
Isn’t it ironic how you and others back Washington as manager over a better younger alternative in Minnesota, yet stay in sunk cost fallacy mode over Schanuel and Adell.
BYE!!
The iron was hot on Adell three years ago. At this point there’s more upside in keeping him than in any prospect we might acquire by trading Adell.
Wash > Tingler
IMHO, Alonso may have lost his stare down with the Mets. Nobody, including nearsighted Arte, won’t give him a 6- or 7-year contract. Him returning to the Mets on a shorter contract would be such an admitted loss of face move. Chatter online is that the Mets have pivoted and are now actively looking to sign a 1B, sooooo……
I think Bregman is going to have the same issue.
Yes, and Houston has already shut the door on his return.
I can see the Giants waiting out Alonso’s market and swooping in to pick him up late. They’ve done that with Snell and Chapman recently and Alonso kind of fits that mold.
Mets need Alonso and they won’t lose him. Plus, Alonso wants to stay. Get a room and make-up.
Well, reportedly three years and over a $100M gap is quite an obstacle to overcome.
Alright, ST is not too far away.
Go Halos!!
Catchers, catchers. When in doubt, sign a catcher.
When in doubt, sign catchers who can’t in the Majors and Minors and Winter ball…..
Uh Oh…..Catchers are important again?
Happy New Year to all you real Angel fans!!!
We have no choice but to be hard core loyal.
😆
So do many bad ones in history
however I ain’t talking about it see Charles Sutton
What I heard you say is that Angels fandom is like getting herpes. There is no cure and you’re going to have to deal with it until you die.
Happy New Year!
We should come up with the 12 Steps of Angels Baseball…I’ll start with Step 1.
We Admitted We Were Powerless Over Our Owner…His Decisions Have Become Unmanageable.
Step 2)
We are powerless to manage our own affections and doomed to rinse and repeat.
Interestingly I compare the visits by Boston fans each year to herpes.
Annoying, recurring, but not fatal.
😂 LOL with you on the chowds coming to town. Still think the Canadians have been the worst visiting fans that I’ve seen.
New Yorkers are obnoxious but typically pretty funny.
Yep. You know the team sucks when the marketing department starts looking for ways to connect to fans and sell tickets that have nothing to do with actually winning games.
Thus far, we still look like 5th in our division.
I actually love that pic 78, Trout is loyal to this losing franchise. He won’t get a ring, but will forever be ‘The Man’ – face of a franchise, hometown hero, GOAT to wear the uniform. That other guy could have took it from him, but he was just a Durant ring chaser who wanted to jump on a $gravy train$ team.
Yep he’s $400m+ loyal!
400 million dollars buys lots of loyalty.
And show us on this doll where Ohtani hurt you. Was it the butt?
You again. Still really cocky. Trouts contract is what is, be negative about it or accept it and hope for his best. You still like that other guy good for you. With respect to other people on this site dont make personal attacks like yur butt comment. Everyone has different opinions about this team realistic or crazy, that what makes it great. Nobody put a crown on you
Let’s chill on the doll/butt comments, please.
At least wait until we sign Trevor Bauer.
The team absolutely needs more depravity
