LA Angels Thanksgiving News Crash

It looks like Perry Minasian might have had good reason to jump on the Travis d’Arnaud deal. Heck! Even Max Stassi is still finding work. Speaking of catchers, keep an eye out for Gabriel Davalillo this January.

Michael Stefanic is now in the Blue Jays organization. Brandon Crawford retired. So did Casey Sadler.

Pitching Ninja’s silliest pitch release of the year did not go to that Davis Daniel “sinker” that I linked the other day. Get a load of this one.

Traditional stuff. Turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rolls, green bean casserole, and pie with ice cream and or whip cream.

All these moves have made the Angels mediocre, which is a step up from league worst. But they are still a good offensive player away from being decent in offense and they need another top of the rotation pitcher to be competitive.

There’s a few miracles that are in play

1) Roki comes to Anaheim instead.
2) The White Sox see Klassen, Kent, Detmers, Rada Schanuel as suitable trade bait for Crochett and extend him
3) The Angels offload Anderson and Ward for prospects / cap space
4) The Angels land the top draft pick at the GM meetings and lock in Ethan Holliday at 3B in two years
5) Behind the scenes daddy Vladdy gets son to join Angels next season.

I actually think they are two middle of the order bats away and you do as well by the players you mention. Those bats have all been extended qualifying offers so it isn’t happening and we would likely need to hang onto Ward, at least for this year.

Kikuchi signing is a example of a ridiculous multi-year deal that we just can’t seem to shake.
Astros signed him for one year and yet we couldn’t? Perry will never work with another MLB team after Grich’s Dad fires him.

Houston traded for him as a pure rental. Toronto had signed him to a 3 year deal.

It seems about 70%of what Toots posts is erroneous even before you try to comprehend the logic, so I’m glad you clarified this JJ.

The Stros actually gave up 3 viable but older prospects for Kikuchi a steep return for a rental similar to our return from the Chowds last year for Luis Garcia (but we also received a younger intriguing prospect in Yeferson Vargas)
And of those three Houston prospects Toronto may have very well acquired their starting second baseman next year in Will Wagner who had an impressive September debut for the Blue Jays

Just to drive this point home – one of the prospects Houston traded to the Jays was their #2 prospect. According to BA, a 50 grade prospect, the fourth most valuable of all prospects exchanged at the deadline last year, just outside the top 100 in baseball.

Basically, the equivalent of the Angels trading Dana or Moore for a two month rental in Kikuchi (not, to your point, a one-year free agent acquisition).

Virtually every single prognosticator predicted a 3 year deal for Kikuchi this offseason, at roughly $17M-22M AAV.

I’m at a loss as to what your point in posting this is. Are you saying that the team’s front office is bad at identifying and drafting talent? Because I don’t think many here are arguing that point with you. Of course, to be fair it looks as if 28 other teams are in the same boat. Just like the 21 teams that passed on drafting that Trout kid back in 2009.

2009 was a long time ago.
2023 MLB Draft was just 16 months ago. Yeah Perry will never work in MLB again if the owner gets rid of him.

ooh a 22 year old 5th rounder who put up 5-4 2.64 ERA in A ball last year and we supposed to get all orgasmic?

Please find a real cause that we could actually give toot shits about .

True, 2009 was a long time ago, but how many GMs or scouting department heads lost their jobs because they didn’t draft Trout? The Nationals could have drafted him and Strasburg both in the first round, but they took Ackerly instead. My point is that you can do this “you could have drafted so and so” for every team out there, so I don’t understand why it’s so egregious when the Angels do so. Eppler got snapped up, so I don’t think Perry will have much trouble getting his next job.

Happy Thanksgiving CTPG. Lots to be thankful for: Neto/O’Hoppe, loyal Trout, $4.50 12oz beers, tailgating, Brewery X, cheap stub hub tickets. And Most thankful for is this SITE.; to share thoughts, frustration, hopes, predictions. Not easy being a Halo fan living in LA., grateful to have this place to share with other fans.

And always remember to be thankful for the problems you don’t have.

Enjoy your family trAditions and be safe everyone.

Here’s to the Angels one day becoming the Lions!

Free the Lions -9.5, free the Packers to cover -3, free us from the eyeball pain of watching the Giants and Cowboys play professional tackle football. Free Ippei for taking one for Shohei and his mom.

MLB.com agrees!!

”The Angels have already made some moves this offseason, making it clear that they’re not slinking away after some rough seasons. They’ve got more young talent than you might think, and you may have vague memories of a Mike Trout fellow who will be back for Opening Day.”

Don’t tell me that the teams that spend big and win big won’t recoup their investment many times over. The data below does not include marketing and related incidental revenue….

The World Series between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers fueled a record postseason bonus pool of $129.1 million, according to the commissioner’s office. The tally was 20% higher than the previous high of $107.8 million set last year—it was $107.5 million in 2022 when the playoffs expanded to their current format.

The World Series champion Dodgers split $46.47 million of the pool. They awarded 79 full shares, 17.49 partial shares and cash awards worth $405,000. A full share was worth $477,441, below the record of $516,347 in 2022 when the Houston Astros had 59 full shares.

A share for the 2024 Yankees was $354,572, based on 71 full shares and 16.38 partial shares.

The 2024 playoffs were almost certain to produce a record payout for players based on the formula and big market teams in the Fall Classic. The bonus pool is comprised of 60% of gate receipts from the minimum number of games in each series (two games in the Wild Card round, three in the Division Series, and four each in the League Championship Series and World Series).
