Postgame

So we had to face Jacob deGrom.

Texas hit a couple of homers in the first inning to make it 3-0 in the first inning. Jack Lopez doubled and Eric Wagaman singled to score him. 3-1 Rangers. The game is going about as one might expect.

Niko Kavadas hit an almost homer in the second inning but it was caught. In the third Jack Lopez managed a two out double. There was no further scoring this inning.

In the fourth, Carson Kelley homered. 4-1 Texass (No Problem.)

Reid Detmers got removed, some bullpen dude relieved him. Anyway … no good news.

Some guy named Matt Festa came in and the Rangers gained another run.

Then some guy named Carson Kelly hit a homer. 3-2 Texas. In the inning, Matt
Thaiss might have done something, but he struck out.

We made i to to the bottom of the fan experience and I’ve been pretty fun about scoring at this point

In the eighth. It’s still the usual Angels thing. They can’t score. Marcus Semien score. Buy some crysstls Oh Wait. I am not gong any where. Is there anywhere to go?

Nothing of Angels use happened. The Angels Lost 5-2.

The Ranhge45s won 7-2.

I think Gene Autry bought the team to have content for his television station to broadcast. Lucky for him, he didn’t have the internet.

Drury has been so bad just replacing him with anyone has to be a solid 2 win improvement. How has a guy on an expiring contract made it this far. He’s not a great defender and is easily one of the worst hitters in the league this year.

We have replaced him with just about anyone for most of the season so….. yeah…

Arte Moreno’s failures.

  1. Not understanding the game and hiring the proper personnel. Friends that are part of the know nothing party candidates
  2. Informing Bill Stoneman that trades and F.A. Signings must be signed off by him.
  3. Hiring Tony Reagins as replacement for Stoneman and become the first “YES” man.
  4. Collecting high priced Free Agents that were always paid wat to much and delivered way less. (Gary Mathews Jr., Albert, Hambone, Wilson, Rendone along with many others.
  5. Swallowing almost all of the “Cable TV Deal” fora lot of money and not reinvesting in the team.
  6. Cutting cost across the board in the minor leagues at every level. Not implementing or directing the implementing how to teach and coach the minors how to play baseball and teaching the same way at all levels going all the way to the majors. Not having professionals from the team making nutrition, housing and training all incorporated though out the system. Not being able to teach front office executives and personnel to move up to the next level.
  7. Running a front office that employs 37-43 employees to cover all aspects of the game including community relations, draft staff, scouting department for High schools, JC’s, Colleges and Universities. Advanced games teams going to play. Scouting for both Leagues. MLB teams normally employ 52-55 in the Front Office.
  8. Very high turnover rate of the LAA scaled down front office personnel.
  9. Proof of not being capable of overseeing a MLB team based on results.
  10. Not overseeing the team very well in regarding issues such as the use of Opioid Drugs, including those who bought the drugs for players and which players needed help and securing the needed avenues of help. Visiting Clubhouse attendant issues of selling goop and selling information about the Angels players.

Through the ’09 season having exciting teams that were the remnants of the work of others was clearly why Arturo Moreno believed he was on to a new way of get rich along with looking good in the eyes of the fans and yet still pulling out a lot of money believing he knew what he was doing. The seams in this baseball were unraveling and so what was he to do, but to sign bigger and better Free Agent(s) is where he turned, after all it worked with Guerriero and Hunter so, next time go bigger.

New Novel by Grandpa Baseball – ‘ARTE’ Riches to Rags at Anaheim Stadium. CTPG best sellers list for the 2024 offseason

It really is a story of a man thinking he knew more than anyone else. Surrounding himself with yes men. Continuing to be stubborn. Arte is getting everything he deserves. I think the biggest mistake you mentioned was feeling like he didn’t even need a competent GM. Everyone knew Tony Reagins was completely over promoted just so he couldn’t complain about Scioscia/Arte making the big decisions. They never embraced technology. Even when Arte finally hired a GM that did, they let Scioscia/Pujols win the power struggle and off he went. His superstar player is probably the worst leader for a superstar that we could have. Arte has not only made a ton of fans move on from the Angels but imagine how many would be fans that are young can only associate Arte’s team with losing and never became fans in the first place. Arte should be ashamed, but again he has his red polo college besties telling him how smart he is and that none of this is his fault. It’s basically like 99% your fault Arte. Congrats on ruining the Angels. I hope you enjoy your wealth knowing literally everyone except your red polo fan club you pay every 2 weeks hates your guts and wished you had never bought the Angels.

CtPG Guy actually reminds me a lot of Arte. Self proclaimed genius with good intentions and bad methods. Though Arte also has shit luck to go with a flawed plan. Oh, and unlike CtPG guy he’s actually successful on a massive scale.

Don’t count on this team still being here by the end of this decade.
By then the owner will be pushing 80 yrs old and expect to see them in either NC or TN. North Carolina already has the NFL Panthers and NBA Bobcats.

I don’t know about the end of the decade. But I am afraid they’ll move eventually.

I think even most of the folks on this site saw Kronke build Sofi (albeit with God knows what kinds of shenanigans taking place in the hallowed Inglewood government) and think “WE NAH HADTAH GIF FAT CAT NAH DEEWL ON LAN AND TAX MONIES FER STERDIUMZ!”

Good luck with that. There’s gonna be a city that wants to build a stadium and have an MLB team in it. I’m not all that confident it will be in Southern California. But who knows? New stadium is likely gonna be Newnicorn Ownerz problem.

At a going rate of $3.5 b, unlikely Angels leaving anytime soon, compedant ownership can make a lot more money in this market than anywhere else in the realm of MLB.

Look everyone. It’s another list of Arte Moreno’s failures….

I swear to gah. We’d get more out of everyone trying to guess what Arte’s favorite ice cream flavor is and why….

It has been a very disappointing season. Except for Neto and Ward, every single position player under performed or performed at a level that fell short of what was hoped for. And with the current roster, I don’t see a lot of room for individual improvement. I agree with Wash, we need better players.

Would be pathetic to end season losing last 6. Go Tigers, true underdogs. Sucks they gave away their 2nd best pitcher at deadline thinking season was done. And of course, Flaherty carrying that blue injured pitching staff.

Too hard to find any early projections I had, except this one tweet bet on March 21 where I said I had them at under 70 wins.

Man, we are DOING it. Finally, we get to experience the REAL bad. That line up tonight, amazing! Like mid-tank Astros bad baby. Talk about taking the load from “reload”.

Can we rebuild now? I know we can’t fire the owner. I’m not clown enough to whine for that. But can we get CarpKuhl out of there now? I’ll take a 99 loss season if, in return they get gone. Square deal to me.

We can’t sign 17 solid free agents. We have got to start building the farm now right?

Tell me CtPG Guy. Is this shit show everything you bitched it would be? We did it guys. If we post the “trAdition” thing a few more times maybe Neto, who is basically Reds era Cozart, will also have had a career ending shoulder injury sustained on the field and you can piss all over him till he finally fades away. Who says we can’t still have goals?

Keep that JuJu strong for just two more games baby!

What’s next? You gonna puss out and start looking for a few things you liked in 2024? Maybe even try to find a few things that you can see maybe being better in 2025?

What an asshole. Then Arte may think he’s a good owner and it will all be your fault!

No, because the difference is the owner and the front office brain trust.
Jerry Jones keeps hiring bad head coaches and not Pete Carroll or Jim Harbaugh because he’s a stubborn egotistical old rich guy. So stubborn old baseball team owner who has a 8 yr long consecutive season of losing (BTW he doesn’t like the fans anymore because his image was booed on the jumbotron recently) can pine for a more ideal buyer. That means out of state and a bigger payday.

Arte Moreno’s accomplishments. Giving the OK to bring in Hunter. Lower beer prices. Keeping parking at decent prices. Re-signing Trout (can’t blame Arte for Trout injuries.)

GrandpaBaseball

GPB was at under of 73. Will this team injuries always play big. I never bought into Wash 13 WAR, and I was non-committal as to hiring Washington, but now I’m a believer. Continue with rebuild and we’ll be ok, Arte can’t own this team forever.

Detmers has hope. Turning out to be a good strikeout pitcher but continuously makes mistake pitches that hurt. Clean that up and he may be a legit starter next year.

I’m now assuming 63-99. Downing Dude’s 66-96 is out of play and my 65-97 is unlikely. Time to revisit our predictions to see if anyone had 63 or 64 wins

sheesh – I think I was the most negative on that thread. Your post did say 65 but then went on to include a wide range in the same or next sentence iirc. So I’m not quite congratulating you at this point. Gotta choose a number, not a range. Tsk Tsk.

I thought Detmers would be our ace and , figuring it would be he, he’d win 12 games. I was a little off there. I haven’t looked it up but I think TA has 8

I did not pick a specific number but was fairly accurate in my assessment of the roster limitations making it difficult to win 70 games. But, like many, I was closer to 70 than 60 because I wasn’t able to be that pessimistic. It’s really been the last few weeks that have put us closer to 60 than 70 and I certainly didn’t count on all the young players bailing out with injuries like the veterans. As mentioned yesterday, Ward, Drury, and O’Hoppe are all that’s left from the beginning of the year regulars and even most of our planned on bench is no longer available. My guess is right now the roster is pretty discouraged, much like we are.

I had 68 wins. I think that is where they would have ended up with a healthier season from a couple players. This team was not going to win 70 games.

I did not see how they possibly could get there after two straight 73 wins seasons and losing their most productive player and not replacing him.
