LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Out of Action

Apparently Ben Joyce and Sam Aldegheri are both out for the rest of the season. So is Jose Soriano. The Angels DFAd Nick Robertson. Caden Dana says walks create bad luck. The bad luck came in the form of Dana being sent down to AA ball where the season is already over.

Cast your vote for Mike Trout as Roberto Clemente Award nominee. Mike is open to moving to a corner outfield spot or designated hitter.

The White Sox plan to cut payroll for 2025. I wonder if they will win more games or fewer.

Kumar Rocker had a good MLB debut. He struck out seven. The Twins claimed left-hander Cole Irvin off waivers. The Blue Jays claimed catcher Tyler Heineman off waivers and DFAd Brian Serven.

Michael Lorenzen was “more sore than normal” following his most recent rehab start. Guardians outfield prospect George Valera will undergo patellar tendon surgery. I guess his season is over.

Veteran first baseman Matt Adams announced his retirement from baseball.

Don’t the people who set the lines for sports actually look at the lineups first? I bet most college baseball teams could beat the Halos in a five game series.

I take it Moniak is hurt. The lineup is set now, replete with rue.

No, he’s not hurt. He’s the “designated survivor” for tonight’s game. He’s at an undisclosed location.

The Angels have 14 hitters on the active roster, only 8 with anything resembling a major league resume. Drury is one of the 8.

We’ve lost more games now than all of last year. 12 left to play, I can’t see us winning more than 4

Roy Hobbs

Of those 8 not many are even average hitters.

Amen.

YES! YEEEEESSSSSS! If we ju ju hard enough maybe we can break the record we set last year and the year before for players used in a season! YYYYEEEEESSSS! Let the piss flow real menz of baseball! You got this. Just a couple more injuries….

We finally have a truly shitty team and an owner who shouldn’t/won’t spend on the roster or a new stadium. We have just about bitched our way into being the bitch and now all our wailing constipation face is actually justified.

We did it boys. We went from constantly complaining about a play off team, to constantly complaining about a play off contender, to constantly complaining about “just” a .500 club to complaining about an infirmary with 90+ losses. Most of you bitched at the same impressive pitch that whole time…. now the bitch finally fits. Great job bitches.

I’ve checked twice and still can’t believe it—the Angels have the third-worst record in baseball. Despite all his TV money, Arte has managed to take the team to new depths of mismanagement and futility. Honestly, the only reason I’m even paying attention at this point is because of this blog, especially Jeff Joiner’s posts.
On a positive note, I’m glad Mike Trout is giving up center field. Would’ve been even better if he made that move five years ago, but he’s still my hero.
Meanwhile, the White Sox are starting to look like the Oakland A’s by slashing their payroll.
As for Friday’s game, I had a great time with free tickets. It was nice catching up with friends, chatting with my new girlfriend, and watching the Astros (probably) cheat again. I vaguely remember some Angel players being there, but honestly, they didn’t leave much of an impression. Also, no nachos in a helmet this time—just a Coke Zero, but that was for my girlfriend, so technically, Arte didn’t get a dime from me!

We already look like the A’s.

The White Sox are a good example of why I never buy the “HUUURRR DURRR! UEWWWDG MEDIA MARKET!” argument. Both Chicago teams dwarf their division in media market size. But the Sox have about 1/3 the fanbase of the Cubs and always will. They need to run that way. They are the Brewers in Chicago.

The 2024 season has reminded me just how over I am of the Arturo/Minasian shitshow. Watching them being whipped by Chicago is a living/breathing reminder.

The Royals, who lost 106 games last year, wanted to get better quickly. They set out to address their holes.

Now, they’re on the precipice of clinching a postseason berth, perhaps as early as this week.

This won’t be happening for us.

The Royals have the tank for a couple of years, stock-up and then contend routine down pat.

You should probably get hung up on this for at least a few weeks. The day the Angels passed on Cole Irvin in favor of the guy you already don’t like. Could have had a new meh pitcher to hate.

Kavadas should get tonight’s start in CF. That’ll help our draft chances.

So, if this season is one in which that Arte said we were going to contending, then what other kinds of seasons can we have?

It’s going to be interesting to watch what Perry does. He’s only under contract through 2026. Rendon isn’t off the payroll until 2027 and It looks like 2027 is a more likely time for the opening of the window to compete than 2026 if you’re counting on home grown and acquired players as opposed to free agents.

I think if someone (Neefo) can rise to the top of 3B hopefuls, Redoomed will be released after the all-star break.

Yes, but if he isn’t on the field or cannot even hit one….ONE HR, he can be replaced, but I’d expect it to be after the AS break.

How much I wish the game rewarded more hitters like Arraez. Ironically I started reviewing his at bats the other day, pitch-by-pitch on Baseball Savant, and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. What a streak that was. His plate discipline is crazy. I would say he is straight take on 90% of first pitches when leading off a game. He lets several go right down Broadway and digs himself a hole. His bat to ball skills are Gwynn like. We need to see batting average play again. He is too fun to watch and we need more like him.

C’mon, we have Jack Lopez, Niko, Drury, Leblanc, Stefanic, Wagaman, Campero, Moniak, and Adams. That’s stronger than the ‘27 Yankees.

We don’t need Arraez, Carew, or Gwynn.

Amen. I love Arraez. I think Shanuel could eventually be a little like that, but with 10+ HR a year for us to complain about.

And don’t forget that in all other rounds the Angels will get to draft in their actual position so 2nd and 3rd round picks etc will be early in that round. If the Angels end up with a top-3 pick in the 1st round and Perry has a good ‘25 draft it could be huge for the Org

Following that all pitchers draft a few years ago, I think the Halos should draft 20 DHs from college teams. That should work out swell.

Centerfield is a young man’s game. Glad Mike finally realizes that. I’m sure he’s desperate for any solution to stay in the lineup at this point. Maybe he’ll have a chance to make up some of the counting stats at the end of his career if he takes the stress off his body now.

I’d say just declare him a DH and donate his gloves to the HoF. 😂

At this point he should be a full time DH, and with maybe once a month giving the left fielder a day off and taking the field.

I don’t even see a reason for that.

Senator_John_Blutarsky

Any way you slice it, he’ll have zero protection in the Angels line-up for the next few years and likely won’t see pitches that are reasonably hittable. The guy is screwed as long as he stays here.

Definitely correct me if I’m wrong, but haven’t the majority of his recent major injuries come from swinging/running the bases (i.e. meniscus, hamate, back, calf) ?

CF, RF, LF, DH .. does it really matter? The real issue is Trouty’s body is broken.

We are looking to take any stress off his body that we can. His legs especially. This is all just managing risk. Nothing will guarantee he stays on the field.

Agreed. I believe the OF will consist of players already on the roster. Ward has 2 more years of control and has value especially considering his recent resurgence. He will not be part of the team when they are competitive so he should be traded between now and the end of 2026 for players that can potentially help us going forward. Ward has value for a competing team for the next 2-3 years. Ward, Canning, Anderson, and Rengifo are the guys we should be looking to move in 25 and 26, and they all have value for a competing team.
