He’s been pitching here 6 years and this dumb fuck organization can’t figure out how bad of a pitcher he is, even with the stats right in front of their face.

Jon Heyman thinks there’s such a thing as West Coat Bias and that’s why Ohtani will be MVP over Lindor? Are you freaking kidding me?

big pill popper Big Papi isn’t happy that a guy who used to work here is the favorite for NL MVP because Big Pill Popper never got one and he was a DH too.

It’s bad enough BPP is in the Hall of Fame because steroids… at least he didn’t get an MVP.

Edgar Martinex should have been MVP in 1995, although that season pains me to remember.

I really enjoyed watching the Seattle team that he played on. They had some good hitters.

Big Roidy had a total of 9 stolen bases in his career. Ohtani does that every month.

I’m surprised he had even one. Must have been when he was younger, before he turned into a Macy’s parade float.

MLB needs to eliminate extra income…I mean extra innings. 👔👔 need to be part of the game.

It would be nice to have compensation for the missing HRs in the form of more 2Bs.

Tony two-bags hit 1 2B per 14.3 ABs in his first 10 years (14.0 pre-Angels).
Rendone hit 1 2B per 22.1 ABs in the past two years (18.5 w/Angels).

His drive is gone, in more ways than one.

He is currently 37% below average as a hitter this year. Well below replace level.

Yet I keep seeing the Angels should use him as a DH to keep him healthy.

I would speculate the recurring injuries have limited what he can do as to power-injecting workouts etc. His injuries included the back and other key areas. He’s likely a singles hitter for the next two years unless he can be really healthy to improve his power.

Horrible weekend for Angels baseball. At least enjoyed football game watching Chargers beat Raiders. Hate Raiders, same azhole following who are Doyer fans. They took over Sofi yesterday with the stands almost all black and silver. That’s familar

Alberto Rios was drafted in the 3rd round (2023) out of Stanford. We moved him back to his natural position of catcher this year in A+ ball.

1st 13 games (A+):
43 ABs
.140 / .213 / .186
3 walks
15 strikeouts
0.20 BB/K ratio

Next 17 games (A+)
60 ABs
.333 / .412 / .383
7 walks
17 strikeouts
0.41 BB/K ratio

Rios turns 23 in March. I’d turn him loose in Rocket City next season.

Here’s the thing. Baseball is a naturally streaky game. The ground ball in the glove versus the ground ball with eyes. The difference between a HR and an out is usually less than a mm. As a result, I do not make too much out of 2 week or even a month of performance. Even a .200 hitter enjoys the occasional .350 month.

Baseball player evaluation requires larger (100 game minimum) sample sizes to draw any meaningful conclusions.

Other than Neto, none of the youngsters broke out or stepped up this year. Neto at 113 and Ward with his recent surge at 107 are the only players in the line up with an OPS+ greater than 100. Everyone else is somewhere between 5% and 70% below average. Trout and Rengifo will add two positive hitters next year leaving us with 5 less than average hitters still in the line up.

Other than Neto and Rengifo, every single hitter in our line up regressed this year. I am much more optimistic about the pitching than the hitting in the near term (like the next two years). Rengifo, Canning, and Anderson become FAs after next year, and Ward and Sandoval after the next year. Ward will also be 33 his first FA year.

I would like to see the club start to incrementally add pieces for the long term. We need long term solutions at 2B and 3B in 2025. The easiest and probably cheapest way to do that would be to extend Rengifo and sign or trade for a 2B. You can always trade them if younger players develop. Then address any OF needs in 2026. You don’t want to get to 2026 and still need to fill 5-6 positions.

Hopefully. But between now and when he’s ready, they need a 2B. And whether he ever makes it here is presently unknown. He’s not exactly tearing up AA.

I guess the question is, is the plan to just wait for everyone in the minors and the majors to see what happens year after year as opposed to starting to populate the roster with actual major league players and let the prospects develop as they do. It’s just a question. The 2B you acquire doesn’t need to be a high priced star, just someone who can hold down the fort until someone shows up.

Maybe like who Drury used to be but not this years Drury. This years Drury is a 70% below average major league hitter. I think we can do better than that. Also, we don’t currently know if Moore is even going to stick at 2B.

I hope ward isn’t considered a youngster on this team, he’s about to be 31.

No he’s not, and as mentioned above, his contract expires in 2 years when he will be 33. He’s an inexpensive slightly above average major league hitter and barely average defensive LF. But he is one of only two players in the line up who have over a 100 OPS+.

I get it. Drury will be gone which can only help as he was a major underachiever this season. The potential for Moniak and Adell to be real players next year looms. A one year quality guy at 2B while waiting for Moore could help. Of course, if we had a power hitting 1B or 3B, that would really help. We have neither.

His draft profile basically said he had a polished bat with no defensive home. Hopefully the latter stats are more indicative of his future.

Yep, and that’s why his 2nd half numbers are worth noting.

We can’t afford whiffing on a 3rd rounder. If he can replace Thaiss in a season or 2, that’d be ideal
