LA Angels Tuesday News Crash:

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Mike Trout!

The White Sox have already reched 100 losses for this season. In other Chicago news, Cubs infielder Patrick Wisdom got himself ejected in a game against the Marlins without saying a word. I guess it was just the tone of his body language while he slammed his batting helmet down. The Marlins just designated Forrest Wall and Tristan Gray for assignment, in part to make room on their 40 man roster for Mike Baumann.

Shohei Ohtani got zapped on his non-pitching wrist over the weekend, but imaging results indicate no structural damage. Javier Baez is undergoing season ending hip surgery.

The Pirates are moving shortstop Oneil Cruz to center field. Maybe it’s an experiment. They designated Jake Woodford for assignment. The White Sox designated infielder Nick Senzel for assignment.

The Giants acquired minor league infielder Nate Furman as the PTBNL in the Alex Cobb deal.

You missed commenting on the most ridiculous part of Drury being in the lineup. He’s the DH at .157. 🤦‍♂️

stabilizing: its been three days since any turnover on the pitching staff, and no recent AAAA dumpster dives for castoffs

and Cueto should win some games the last six weeks

Baumann is just so damn good Miami had to drop two guys from their 40 man to make room.

I feel like from an organizational standpoint, the Angels we are slowing down our whirlwind player development timeline to more manageable levels especially pitchers . Grichman does a great job discussing this topic below.

I even think the fast track development of Moore is has been cooled now that the hype train has slowed down and he has fallen back to earth. In fact in his last 11 AA games Moore is slashing an anemic .213/.260/.255 with 20! strike outs against 3 walks in only 50 Plate Appearances. IMO Better for him to go through this adjustment down in Rocket City than have a Jordyn Adams or Jo Adell type debut in the bigs .

So maybe Perry has finally junked the super fast player prospect projection pipeline to something for conventional. I wonder if the old accelerated philosophy was the brain child of Alex Tamin or one of the other front office PD guys that left the organization this last off season . either way what’s the rush? I’m fine with giving the prospects ample opportunity to shine at the upper levels but at some point even with the 15 WAR Wash, these kids need to have the opportunity to develop even with the clown housing, the wish sandwiches and long bus rides.

I tuned out on Sunday, didn’t hear this. Assuming MM done. So it will be interesting I’d the bring up another Baumann type roster filler, or a Kid if we are slow rolling the rush job.

Matt Moore came out with an elbow issue. He’ll be re-evaluated when they get to Detroit tomorrow.

i think you’re right, and also injuries along with holes in Anaheim drive this too.

if Jared Walsh continued to bang like we thought we would and could, we’d be looking forward to Schanuel’s debut this September.

To me, Bachman appears to be a sore-shouldered relief pitcher with little chance of making an impact in the majors, which is exactly what was predicted when Minasian over reached to draft him.

Idle thoughts for a garbage season…

Developmentally, the Angels seem to be taking a different tack with this year’s draftees (Moore notwithstanding). The two most obvious examples: Johnson and Cortez. Both advanced/polished college righthanders. Both of whom would typically be dealing in the IE or even Alabama by now. Instead, both are still in Arizona (it seems) getting extended instruction. So maybe the Halos are serious about making them starters in pro ball? That seems the most likely reason neither has thrown an inning yet… developing third and fourth pitches, workload training, all that.

As others have noted, the late draft this year precluded the possibility of any draftees getting innings/ABs in rookie ball, so that’s also a factor.

And maybe this is just the Angels doing what most orgs do… this year, of all the pitchers selected in the first six rounds, only six have seen game action so far. (The Angels have one of them.)

They’ll both probably go to instructional after the season’s end.
