Angels Win Series vs Mets

The two oldest expansion teams face off for the final time this year. Both Overshadowed by. Their more sucsessful neighbor in the metro area, but going on opposite directions. The Angels have been in a decade long suffering fest, while the Mets have Grimace on their side, looking like a team of destiny. However, they are the Mets, and are used to collapsing. Will they do that today? The Angels sent out Griffin Canning he went 5 innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, striking out 8 and walking 4. Not bad.

8k

Oh and Quintana was pitching for the Mets. So weird how he does well when not on the Angels…

Highlighted Recap

Mets scored the first run in the 2nd, on a single.

1-0 Mets

But Quintana felt bad and threw a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning.

Tired game

And then a Thaiss sac fly gave the Angels the lead!

2-1 Angels

In the third, the Angels added on, scoring on a sac fly by Kevin Pillar.

3-1 Angels

But the Mets scored again in the 5th.

3-2 Angels

The bullpens for each team kept the offense low, and Contreras saved the game for a 3-2 Angels win!

Upcoming

The Angels have an off day on Monday and then go to NY to face the other NY team. Now THAT is a team that has their stuff together. Even if it is just 2 superstars carrying the offense. No fair how that works for them.

Angels bullpen may not be a total dumpster fire next year.

I am still straining like Elvis on a toilet hoping that Adell get’s hot and brings that BA/OBP up. Just get off the interstate baby! Hit .220. Do that with 30 HR? And a pony? Si? And a .260 average for Neto too? Oh the joy…..

PLUS we have Rengifo, Ward AND Anderson in the fold next year still!

I’d like to see the Angels, once again, show restraint signing marquis free agents in the off-season. This club is not ready to compete in ‘25 or possibly ‘26, but we have a solid catcher and SS building blocks. Key positions.

I would try again to trade Rengifo and Anderson in the off-season. Perry needs to lean forward and initiate and not just “field offers.

Percentage of people who care….. 0%. Uh oh!

Why do we care about this? Why are we supposed to be comparing Nolan to a guy on the Cubs? Or anyone else at this point? Why does your boner always point down and to the left?

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Oh wait. I see what you’re saying. Busch is in his 4th full season as a pro and played 300+ games in the minors, but is only 2 WAR ahead of Nolan in his first full season as a pro with 22 games in the minors.

Like, “Uh oh! Busch better look out.”

Yes. This is a player named Rooker. He is on a team. It is only one team and he does NOT play for the other teams. Very good Tootie. Very good.

What did they (Arte & Perry) think they had, a 30+ yrs old non-power pitcher, an OF hitting .230, And a mistake prone infielder having his career year but is injury prone. 29 other teams are laughing at those 2. We at one time were on a 4th lotto slot, now 6th. Today was a 3 error win, Mets no errors but we scored an unearned run-one run made the difference. I know that we need the draft to rebuild, but I can’t help rooting for the Angels while watching the game.

If you read the comments, he’s basically saying they didn’t get any decent offers. They figure they can trade them during the off-season or next year at the deadline and get either the same or more like they did with Estévez.

Not according to his AAA performances.

Seriously? he has completely sucked at AAA.

Bush has had 4 starts including last Tuesday. combining for a 6.16 ERA . 19 innings pitched 10 walks 6 HR’s and only 16 strikeouts for a 1.45 WHIP.

I can’t believe the Pale hose are that desperate. Even Perry is not that stupid.

If he were pitching against us in his debut, what do you think would happen?

Stupid is as stupid does. I’d be careful comparing anyone to Perry as his results drafting/signing/promoting starting pitching are nothing to be proud of.

It’s not Ky’s fault he was part of a really dumb trade orchestrated by Arte and his minion Perry. I hope he does well with his opportunity.

Rieid Detmers (Croused?) the bed once again today at AAA . In only 3-2/3 innings he gave up 6 hits 2 walks 6 Earned Runs and 3 more Home Runs. His AAA Earned Run Average now sits at 6.79

It seems like if he wants to get back up to big leagues hes not making a very good case for himself.

Might still have it in him to regain the best of himself. I think we thought his biggest issue was inside his head, might be a lot more than that. Command and control are hard to improve at this stage. Better come up with another pitch. Or more velo…..again.

Things change quickly. Sadly/Sandy and Detmers, were the future. Now both have probably lost their chance.

Ya know there are a plethora of pitchers who have a very brief history of success that just is not maintained. McCaskill, Romanick. Heaney, Tropeano, Skaggs, Sandoval, Detmers. The Lackeys, Weavers, Messersmiths, Chances are rare.

I think Cape Kirk had a 7 year stretch where he was pretty good. From 1988 to 1994 he had a 3.89 ERA which during the steroid era was probably still better than league average . I also thought Tyler Skaggs was coming into his own before he OD’d at 27 so I would not put them in the same category as Detmers who seems to be regressing before he ever got going.

John lackey and jered weaver had good careers and very good 4 – 5 year runs.

Max was saying that. He said that Lackey/Weaver/Messersmith/Chance types were rare.

Granted, his grammar, and sentence structure made it difficult to see that.

Since the end of the Roansy Contreras starting pitcher experiment, In 8 games and 10-1/3 innings, he is 1-0 with 2 saves 1.74 ERA 12 K’s .68 WHIP and a .372 OPS against.

I think thats good. .

Feewww. Thank gah. I was afraid that guy Rick would get away with saying something positive without shining a light on that single negative detail and we’d all be fooled again.

But you saved us and made sure we didn’t forget the ultimately meaningless throwing error.
