An afternoon game on a Saturday. I like it. Get the yard and house work done in the morning, enjoy the game in the afternoon.

It’s Italian-American Heritage Day in OAK, and their announcers cited O’Hoppe as Italian, and I looked it up: sure enuff Logan-O’s mom is italian.
Great mother of crap! This team is depressing.
We have 2 1/2 more months to go.
Feels like there’s only three things to look forward to for the rest of the season:
1) Does Neto get to 20-20?
2) Does Perry secure anything notable at the trade deadline?
3) What do the recent draftees looks like in short samples on the farm?
I’d like to see Neto and O’Hoppe both get to 20 homers with an average above .270. To me, the only two viable bats to carry forward as the future. Schanny is filler.
Perry needs to move Anderson. Crochet, Anderson, Skubal and Flaherty are the top available arms. With the Tiger’s resurgence, perhaps they will hold onto their arms and go for it. Maybe this help on the takeback with Anderson.
Well I show a few more:
4) Can Bachman & Silseth get healthy and make the move into the ML starting Rotation?
5) Will another pitchers taken in 2021 to 2023 drafts (still with the team and other than Dana) actually turn into viable future options either in the pen or starting rotation
6) Can Adell & Moniak be more than just 4th outfielders?
7) Will Schanuel continue to prove all of his pundits wrong and sustain an .800+ OPS?
8) Will Detmers finally get his shit together?
9) Can Joyce maintain consistency as a ML closer?
10) Can Quijada be a high leverage reliever in our bullpen next year
11) Can any of the current Trash Pendasget major league hitters out in bullpen roles?
12) Will any of our International Bonus babies (17 to 20 yr olds) continue to develop into viable prospects beyond low A ball?
13) What date in September will Christian Moore make his Major League debut?
Then theres always interesting ancillary items like Will the Angels help or spoil Jer Jer’s and Room Servais’ chances to make the playoffs this year ?and will Perry’s departed prospects develop into major leaguers or just more the same field minor leaguers?
So stay tuned.
I have things to do but I’ll stick around for Mickey’s K and Jo’s flyout.
Wash tricked me!
As Jeff keeps reminding us, this year is extended spring training. None of the games really count except for the draft because we’re not very good and we’re not really trying to win. We’re developing our young players at the major league level. Most likely next year as well. We already have all the position players we need on our roster for next year with the exception of maybe Moore at 2B.
1B – Schanuel
2B – Moore?
SS – Neto
3B – ??
C – O’Hoppe/Thaiss
LF – Ward???
CF – Moniak
RF – Adell
DH – Trout
I see a few holes even long-term (and assuming everyone develops). I kind of assume we aren’t keeping Rengifo (potenially filling the 3B hole?), Ward, Rendon long term. Do we count on Paris, Adams, Stefanic (I assume not so much).
Only one of Adell or Moniak should be here and on the bench for defensive substitution. Ward sucks also but Can be the 3rd OF.
I also see Schanuel as the perfect bench bat..a guy who gives you great ABs, hopefully get you a hit, gets taken out for a pinch runner in late game situations. Robbie Quinlan , Orlando Palmiero type. John Van Der Wall.
We have a lot of players starting for us who would not be starting on a winning team. As long as we’re not really serious about winning, they can continue to play with the hope they find themselves. But as soon as we get serious about winning (whenever that is), we can’t wait for them any longer.
No, no, and no to the trio mentioned.
There’s a power deficit in the Angels positional pipeline up and down the system.
It’s why, for half a decade, I keep hoping for starting pitching and polished power bats in the draft, but the draft room keeps prioritizing relievers they hope to turn into starters, and when they go positional, they tend to focus on body types and contact profiles. What we get is predictable.
No fault in your assessment (as usual). Just trying to understand who the ‘young position players’ we are hoping will develop in time are.
We seem to be short on power and speed – at least one of which are necessary.
That’s my point – there’s not much in the tank in terms of positional talent on the farm. They are especially lacking in power, and they haven’t really prioritized it in the top rounds of recent drafts.
The upside for Moore is he becomes Brandon Drury. The downside is he becomes a K-prone leftfielder with 12-15 HRs a year.
The few position players of note at the moment are Latin signs. Lugo, maybe DeJesus. Rada in a couple years (though no power there).
Drury had two good seasons (2022 and 2023) and was otherwise a replacement level player at best. His career WAR is 2.8. So, you are not exactly optimistic about Moore! 🙂
Actually, I think if you take out 2022 and 2023, he has a negative career WAR.
I would say they are Neto, O’hoppe, Schanuel, Moniak, and Adell. Neto and O’hoppe, are ready now. The others are not. I am not as high on Mickey and Adell as some others are and Nolan, the last few weeks not withstanding, is still a work in progress. You are right, we don’t really have positional players in the system we are waiting for.
So why don’t they option Schanuel back to minors and not bring him up till September 2025? The fact is the Angels caught a lot hell from baseball pundits in recent yrs over this dumpster fire maneuver, and rightfully so. Not a big fan of Schanuel either BTW because he hasn’t shown the kind of power that’s expected from a 6ft 4in 1B player.
No argument from me.
So the Rookie has an .800+ OPS in his last 112 Major League Plate Appearances (over the last 6 weeks) when the Angels have had a winning record while also playing great defense and you guys want to send him down?
I was assuming for next year we still have Rendon, Ward, and Rengifo. I absolutely agree with your statement about long term. I am assuming short term that Rendon or Rengifo will play 3B, with Trout in CF, Adel in RF, and Ward in LF, and Calhoun as the DH. Long term we need a lot. Assuming Moore works out, we will need a 3B, possibly 2 OFs and a DH. I’m not saying that’s what I would do or what I want, but I believe it’s what they may do to remain cheap for next year.
Bring up another one too soon and throw him in the frying pan.
Hindenburg is in but it’s fine, the ship has already sunk.
Rendon GIDP, Drury pop out.
It really is an unwatchable team. Each time I try again, like today, the images burn my eyes, and it’s spots and floaters for days.
Hahaha
Big surprise – another bed-crapping
Back to watching The Natural for the 9000th time
The Sting is coming on TCM in 2-minutes…classic
Ha! Didn’t realize Mr Hand from Fast Times was in The Sting.
Uncle Martin – Ray Walston?
Ren-suck, Rally killer.
that DP is a bit of a rally killer
“Bit of a rally killer” is like the arm being cut off was “merely a flesh wound.”
yes. “I say, that double play rather dampened my enthusiasm”

That Angels pitching pipeline…
Yeah, septic system?
Clearly this guy in not ready but was still brought up bigs
Enright brings bad mojo on his mound visits
I think the Bad mojo comes from their farm system.
Make or break batter here.
Break it is.
Shiuld have yanked him already
Bad call by Wash to leave him in
Kids got to figure it out.
I like how Kosanostritch has given up 3 runs in 3 innings and lowered his ERA
We’re focusing on the positives.
More funny stuff from Roy…be here all week!!
Mike Trout injury
“left calf tightness”
Getting off the plane in Arizona?
Nolan hurt? Noooooooo!
Like I said “cursed.”
uh-oh. Schanny….
Adell does belly flops on his headfirst slides, hits the dirt too early. Last night too. Come on EY, coach him up.
It was still good enough to run his helmeted noggin into Schuemann’s nuts.
Didn’t he learn how to slide as a little kid?
The Little red hen?
