LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: AL Reins Supreme

Good morning Angels fans! Have some links!

Angels News

The only All Star Game rep for the Angels did not pitch. Is the the Royals’ fault? After all, they had multiple players pitch and had both their hitters hit. THE ROYALS ARE RUINING BASEBALL… AGAIN! At least the Mariners also did not have any players play either.

Angels rank 16th in the MLB announcer rankings, the lowest they have been. I think it may be wrong, but the constant rotating may be the reason why.

Around Baseball

The AL won the All Star Game, their 10th in the last 11 years. The only NL wins as of late are last year and 2012. With the AL having a 48–44–2 (.521) record, this ties for their biggest lead since 1960.

It was the fastest All Star Game since 1988. Only 2:28!

The MVP was Jarren Duran. Of the Boston Red Sox.

Ohtani did everything he could for the NL, their only RBIs, their only walk, and the AL still beat them. First time this has ever happened. Tungsten Arm game yet again!

Remember that really bad National Anthem on Monday? Yeah, apparently she was drunk and has apologized.

Next All Star Game is in Atlanta. For now.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

Ohtani she be well adjusted to being great and losing a game. Funny how I don’t feel sorry for him anymore.

Agreed. Our organization cannot develop players but we can sure pass on advanced degrees in how to be a loser. Ohtani’s now a PHD in the field of losing.

Thanks. Summerhill, Coll, and Avila look promising, based on stats

Up to nine now, perhaps a handful more coming. Tied with the White Sox for largest # of UDFA signings.

They signed 11 last year in the two weeks after the draft.

PTPArte need to do something like….

Tyler Anderson (and 7M), Carlos Estevez and Taylor Ward to the Orioles for
Dylan Beavers (OF), Mack Hovart (2B/3B and Freddy Benscome (SS)

Get some position player prospects into that farm. I think demand for a closer and starter will get us more than what tradeSim says for both Sheen and Anderson if we pay him.

on the announcer’s list, fine another opinion. i never get triggered by placement in lists, whatever – you have yours and i have mine.

on this list – Yankees and Tigers are too low. Mets are #1 for me too. I wouldn’t put Baltimore that high. And I’m surprised Chicago fell to the bottom (they used to be one of my favorites). I think Oakland should be higher too.

I think the Angels go back into the Top 10 by merely taking Patrick McHomer out of the rotation.

here’s some interesting news

“Gregory-Alford says he will sign with the Angels, forgoing a scholarship with the University of Virginia. Los Angeles made the 18-year-old an offer he couldn’t refuse, giving him the green light to immediately pursue his MLB dream”

No word on Gatwood.

mmmm… this would be good.

Have absolutely no expectation he can do it, but if Perry landed Gatwood too… that’d be quite a draft.

looks like Gatwood is going to college.

“…the 6-5 RHP was drafted in the 19th round by the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday but has decided he’s ready to get on campus and play for the Tigers”

Video shows Angel fans emerging from the Santa Ana Riverbottom out in the wilds of a remote part of the stadium parking lot. This after the All-Star break and what some would say another disappointing draft. This is where they plan to kickoff and stage the 2024 Tanking and Trading season. If you look closely, you’ll notice several CTPG guys wearing their Red Rally Thongs.

Wait. The NL had Ohtani. The first player in 102.6942 years to eat a sandwich and wear flip flops and then go on to swing a baseball bat in BOTH an NL and AL dugout at the all star game?!? And they still lost! The NL…. wasting a generational talent.

Angels MLB announcer rankings – I think you are right about the effect of the constant rotations. The radio announcers would probably be ranked much lower. I like Mark Langston but I’m not a fan of Terry Smith. Someone needs to tell him to stop saying “8-hole hitter.” Are they still not travelling with the team??

8-hole hitter?

And here I thought the whole time he was saying A-hole hitter

Right…that’s exactly what he sounds like when he says it. Maybe he is saying A-hole. If the cleat fits…

Mark me down as a fan of Terry Smith and Langston. Smith had more of the old school style in his call, more traditional. IMHO.

100% agree. Mr. “tight to the line” Smith is very easy to listen too. Also, Langston is a much better analyst than Gubi and does not breakout into this cringy habit of stating the players full name after a good play with some dumb moniker. Fauck Gubi sucks.

Just leave Gubi and Randazzo alone and they will be fine. O’Neal needs to be buried in a very deep hole. Please!

Santa maria! i’d prefer Patrick over Wayne. They are both squirrely, but Patrick is close to my age and from SoCal so i tolerate him much better.

Plus, Patrick is also LA Kings so i like him there too and he’s my buddy 365 days/year, but thank God they don’t let him do ice hockey play-by-play.

They’re both fine but whenever Wayne goes goofy, he’s lost me.
Like them both better than MattyV and snarkyvic.

You actually like the way Patrick pimps every Angel HR or even merely a good play, like they just walked off a WS win? Asking, not trolling as I would rather have all my fingernails yanked off simultaneously, then ever listen to Patrick on baseball.

Not seeing Mike trout smash HR in the all star game has been severely missed.

Based on what is known today, I give the Angels draft a solid “C”. I just not a fan of reaching with the 1st round selection.

The grade will adjust based on how well the players develop. I hope for the very best….

I also wasn’t a fan of drafting two relief pitchers with the next two picks, even though they’re claiming they’re going to try to develop them as starters. I’m dubious, at best.

Understood Marine. Of course, Angels current bullpen features Estevez, Moore, Garcia, Strickland, and Joyce.

Of those five, the only one I think under contract for next year is Joyce. Hence, the interest in bullpen arms. We all want quality starters, but we don’t want a patchwork BP either.

BTW, on the subject of starters, what happened to Silseth? Witness Protection program? He had a minor injury and was supposed to be out a few weeks. That was three months ago.

He pitched for SL the other day. Probably a call-up soon.

Cowboy26

But I’m not so sure of that. Silseth last start Sunday he only lasted 37 pitches and was pulled in the 4th with 2 outs despite giving up no earned runs. In His 2 previous starts he pitched 99 and 92 pitches.

So I am concerned about an injury but theres been no word yet.

By August 1, If I had to guess the Bullpen will probably be Joyce, Quesadilla, Torres, Darrell-Hicks, Crouse, Marte, Fulmer and Strickland.

I dont think we’ll see Cimber back this year but you never know.

Johnson is not a reliever. Started exclusively and effectively in 2024.

*against Conf USA teams, not SEC/ACC/B12 etc.

Also he has two pitches – he needs a bigger arsenal to remain a starter, and if that is the case, it will take him awhile.

Well his non conference starts did include Arizona, USD & West Virginia so it wasn’t all creme puffs.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

None of that matters if I want to complain about him.

I think his violent weird delivery makes him likely to be a guy who pitches fewer innings so he is 100% sure to be a pen arm and we shouldn’t even try to develop him as a starter.

Actually, we should draft no one. Arte should buy houses. We can complain. Everyone’s happy.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

The biggest problem was, by round 2, you were either drafting those “starters” or you were overdrafting guys with much lower rankings…. making them also “starters”…. and we would have all been like “Why is cheap Arte drafting the #62 guy at 45? Ahs oooh mad!”

Agree. I know they said a weak draft but just seems you still push for more upside when drafting within first 75-100 picks. Moore had varying opinions but beyond him it just seemed still stuck in high floor, low ceiling approach which just seems more of the same short term vision. I cant believe many of us on this site truly believe our path puts us on a compete within 3 years approach nor how good you can be with developing marginal to average starters.

grichmanpoorman

Re: Moore… The question really is, would you rather have him AND one of the 3rd-round-caliber HS arms we drafted, or just the one slot-appropriated draftee… Rainer, probably, or Montgomery. There’s a good argument to be made for the former, right? Because they definitely saved money on him, and he’s still a Top 15 prospect in many eyes.
