Not This Time Postgame

It was Detmers day! How did our ace do? Well, I obviously should have signed up for Friday’s post game. The Angels lost this one 7-1.

Inning #1

Nolan Schanuel struck out looking. Ehire Adrianza struck out swinging, as did Taylor Ward. Detmers walked Steven Kwan. He had trouble finding the strike zone early. Brayan Rocchio popped out to first. Jose Ramirez popped out to the catcher. David Fry singled on a liner to left. Ramon Laureano struck out swinging.

Inning #2

Willie Calhoun doubled. Brandon Drury grounded out to the right driving Calhoun over to third. Logan O’Hoppe flied out to shallow right center. Jo Adell lined out to deep right. Andres Gimenez grounded out to first. Tyler Freeman hit a line single to Mickey Moniak. Bo Naylor struck out swinging. Austin Hedges homered. 2-0 Guardians. Steven Kwan popped out.

Inning #3

Mickey Moniak flied out to left. Zach Neto popped out to first. Nolan Schanuel lined out to short. Brayan Rocchio struck out swinging. Jose Ramirez grounded out. David Fry popped out.

Inning #4

Inning #5

Brandon Drury grounded out to second. Logan O’ Hoppe struck out swinging. Jo Adell walked and then stole second. Mickey Moniak also walked. Zach Neto smashed one through to left to score Adell. 3-1 Guardians.

Neto stole second. Nolan Schanuel walked. Ehire Adrianza flied out to left.

Austin Hedges struck out. Gabriel Arias grounded out. Brayan Rocchio flied out to Jo Adell.

Inning #6

Taylor Ward singled on the first pitch he saw. Willie Calhoun struck out swinging. Brandon Drury grounded into a force out but beat an attempted at a double play. Matt Thaiss grounded out to second. (Logan O’Hoppe was apparently hit in the hand by a foul ball and left the game due to that.

Jose Ramirez walked. So did David Fry. Ramon Laureano struck out swinging while Andres Gimenez struck out looking. Tyler Freeman walked setting up the grand slam by Bo Naylor. 7-1 Guardians. Hunter Stricklend came in to pitch and got Austin Hedges to pop out with only one pitch.

Inning #7

Jo Adell flied out. Mickey Moniak grounded out. Zach Neto flied out. Carson Fulmer came in to pitch. Will Brennan singled on a grounder through to center. Brayan Rocchio lined out to center. Jose Ramirez popped out and David Fry struck out swinging.

Latest episode of Wash letting the kids play and living with the results:

“He got to the point where he got to the sixth inning, where he had to go down and find out what he’s made of, and he just left a pitch over the plate to a left hander and gave up a grand slam,” Washington said. “Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that would happen.”

As of May 5th, 2024 our best reliever Cimber, our best pitcher is Soriano and our best player is Rengifo. Makes sense.

It will be interesting to see where the dust settles for everyone at the end of the season.

Best player: Rengifo? Just day no.

Ward and Adell are way better, even with Adell’s baserunning gaffs. Neither Adell nor Ward has single-handedly cost the team wins.

It’s tough to be an Ace. There is so much info out there on every pitcher these days. So only the truly great get to Ace level.

Now LAST in AL West…to stay there until…?

A: Pigs fly
B: Lassie comes home
C: Trout and Rendon are once again every day players (see: A, above)
D: All of the above
E: None of the above and/or plus F; or nobody named “Cheeky” shall be allowed to compete.

We are bad enough that we might become the first, in all professional sports, to have an unsuccessful surgery on one of its players.

We’re toothless sans Rengifo.

In the tune of Taylor Swift:

We (we!) are never ever ever, gonna win another series

We’re wasting Willie Calhoun?

This team is using no Kevin Pillar as a pinch hitter and fielding Ehire Adrianza as the the full time 3rd baseman. Yeah, they probably are not going to win a majority of the games they play.

There must be a developmental issue or something. These pitchers give up way too many fast balls in the zone when they get ahead in counts.

Wait, the conventional wisdom was that the new pitching coach was the best that ever coached pitchers in the history of the game?

Or a lack of talent issue?

To be fair to Detmers he should have been taken out after walking the base loaded but who’d come in?

Suarez?
