LA Angels Tuesday Hicks Crash: Outta Here!

Yesterday the Angels designated Aaron Hicks for assignment, selected Cole Tucker, and recalled Davis Daniel. The also optioned Zac Kristofak to Salt Lake City. Zach Neto’s brief hot streak was a result of him playing at 85% rather than going all out. He also changed his walk up music. I guess it worked. The Angels won yesterday 6-5 against the Philadelphia Phillies. These are the Phillies who were supposedly beating up on their opponents. Baseball is crazy.

In the “not making this up” department. The Twins touch a summer sausage for good luck before they go to bat. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Hopefully, they keep it in the refrigerator between games. Player’s Weekend will be back this year, but without the nicknames on the uniforms.

Blue Jays prospect Brandon Barriera underwent season ending elbow surgery. Jesus Luzardo has a mild flexor muscle strain.

The Red Sox designated infielder Pablo Reyes for assignment. He’s been bad at the plate, although not as bad as Hicks.

Here is the latest on the stadium plan for the Athletics.

It’s interesting that my concern has gone from disappointment about Trout to outrage about Pillar.

We’re not even going to get that silver lining

Well, the silver lining is that this whole thing has resulted in almost 300 comments here on CtPG today.

And that generates $100 for the Masthead for every comment, right?

Pillar, how stupid is that. Season is lost, let’s at least get some classics for the young guys. Sign Brandon Belt already and try to get Joey Votto. Would love to see the Captain and future HOF play here during this lost season. Good influences for the kids too.

The main goal at this point, aside from Play The Kids, should be this:

Protect Ward At All Costs!!!

Perry would get hosed in the deal. No more trades. Just let the youts play.

You protect him now so you can trade him for max value later. He’s our only decent trade chip.

An injured Ward – and let’s face it, he’s not exactly Ironman himself either – would do no good come the trade deadline.

Why Perry? Just play the youts and stay away from the aged veterans on the waiver wire. Yeeesh.

Yes, what’s the difference between Pillar and Adams at this point? This move reeks of Wash’s influence.

The Angels must have a plan to temporarily replace Trout, right?

Well both Salt Lake and Rocket City are playing right now and there have been NO moves to replace a normal starter either before or during the game. The Front office knew well before game time that Trout was out so why would you not have a plan in place to fill the MLB roster?

. Marisnick is still on the minor league IL, Hicks is in purgatory ( they wouldn’t dare try to bring him back would they?) Pillar is now a free agent but he has sucked for years now. So their only real source is someone from the minors.

How can you not already have a plan in place? This seems like such incompetence. At least if you are going to play a man short at least do us all a favor and make it Suarez and not a position player ( even if none of them can hit)

More details from Fletcher:

The injury seemingly came out of nowhere. Trout scored from second base on a wild pitch and he stole a base in a comeback win against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night, but he felt something unusual around the third inning. It got worse overnight, and he went for an MRI exam on Tuesday morning.

As for replacing him in the lineup, the simplest move would be to have Mickey Moniak in center field. Manager Ron Washington said Moniak will “get a lot of playing time out there,” but he stopped short of saying Moniak would play “every day.”

The Angels also could put Jo Adell in center field, and Washington even mentioned Luis Rengifo getting some opportunity there.

Trout said the recent slump had nothing to do with his knee, which didn’t bother him until Monday.

“I don’t know (what caused it),” Trout said. “You can guess, try to pinpoint what play it’s from. I play the game hard and (stuff) happens.”

“After doing activity, when I sat down and got back up, that’s when I started feeling it. I mentioned something in the seventh or eighth inning to the (medical staff), just to give them a heads up, just to make sure it wasn’t anything crazy.”

Trout said had trouble sleeping on Monday night, and on Tuesday morning he told the Angels that he needed to get it checked, so he underwent an MRI that showed the torn meniscus.

Trout said he’s not sure when he’ll have the surgery, but his understanding is it’s “a pretty simple procedure.”

My Lord, what could have been:

Paul Casella
@Paul_CasellaMLB

Mike Trout was on pace for 55 home runs and 33 stolen bases this season. No player in MLB history has ever had a 50-30 (or 50-25) season.

Since 2021, Trout is averaging 46 HRs, 95 RBIs and 109 runs per 162 games …

But he’s played only 266 of a possible 515 games.

Rhett Bollinger
@RhettBollinger

Mike Trout was very emotional talking about his injury. He said he first felt something coming off the field in the third last night but isn’t sure when he injured himself. He didn’t feel it at the plate or running. But it continually worsened and he underwent testing today.

We all knew going in that this team was not a winner, but at least we had Trout, that and watching the younger players even in losing was not the end of the world, heck even yesterday we saw Mike score from second with heads up awareness hustle and scoring. He even had a stolen base in getting to second. I always hated hearing we wasted Mike’s career, maybe/maybe not, but he wanted to be here and that’s what counted. Should be back after the All-Star break though, so this is not the end of a career, we been here and done this before.

At this point I think that he really believed that he was still capable of an 8 WAR season type year, and he was giving his all and was having issues hitting the ball, now another layoff….let’s hope for the best.

1B – Schanuel
LF – Ward

DH – Drury
C – O’Hoppe
RF – Moniak
3B – Adrianza

Was in the shower and listening to the radio, we get JFI up here, I wasn’t positive that what I thought I heard was what I heard, jumped out dry off and ran to the pc-MLB-sad day. Won’t lie about this, I expected it. He and Redone are just the saddest guys around. If it can be injured these guys of glass can and will break it. Tony was just coming around, Mike was hitting with power and playing all out. Very bummed out now. For Mike it’s the thoughts of what could have been. 😵 😳 😢 😭 😱
