Yesterday the Angels designated Aaron Hicks for assignment, selected Cole Tucker, and recalled Davis Daniel. The also optioned Zac Kristofak to Salt Lake City. Zach Neto’s brief hot streak was a result of him playing at 85% rather than going all out. He also changed his walk up music. I guess it worked. The Angels won yesterday 6-5 against the Philadelphia Phillies. These are the Phillies who were supposedly beating up on their opponents. Baseball is crazy.
In the “not making this up” department. The Twins touch a summer sausage for good luck before they go to bat. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Hopefully, they keep it in the refrigerator between games. Player’s Weekend will be back this year, but without the nicknames on the uniforms.
Blue Jays prospect Brandon Barriera underwent season ending elbow surgery. Jesus Luzardo has a mild flexor muscle strain.
The Red Sox designated infielder Pablo Reyes for assignment. He’s been bad at the plate, although not as bad as Hicks.
Here is the latest on the stadium plan for the Athletics.

It’s interesting that my concern has gone from disappointment about Trout to outrage about Pillar.
We’re not even going to get that silver lining
Well, the silver lining is that this whole thing has resulted in almost 300 comments here on CtPG today.
And that generates $100 for the Masthead for every comment, right?
😄
Pillar, how stupid is that. Season is lost, let’s at least get some classics for the young guys. Sign Brandon Belt already and try to get Joey Votto. Would love to see the Captain and future HOF play here during this lost season. Good influences for the kids too.
I called it a couple hours ago…the stupidity has started.
Started?
Okay the new and improved after Trout stupidity.
He meant continues.
The main goal at this point, aside from Play The Kids, should be this:
Protect Ward At All Costs!!!
*** Trade Ward at all costs ???
Perry would get hosed in the deal. No more trades. Just let the youts play.
You protect him now so you can trade him for max value later. He’s our only decent trade chip.
An injured Ward – and let’s face it, he’s not exactly Ironman himself either – would do no good come the trade deadline.
Got rid of Hicks only to end up with Pillar jeeeez

Why Perry? Just play the youts and stay away from the aged veterans on the waiver wire. Yeeesh.
We had younger options in AAA. Don’t love the process here.
Yes, what’s the difference between Pillar and Adams at this point? This move reeks of Wash’s influence.
Clueless. Perry hates his own farm system
Hilarious. Completely and utterly ridiculous.
Perry needs to be freed from his employer.
We’re signing castoffs from the CWS.
We are down bad, Senator.
Equine medicine has a purpose
The Angels have agreed to a one-year contract with OF Kevin Pillar.
Just need warm bodies at this point
Just don’t play him over Jo or Mick
Just like Wash not playing Hicks over Jo and Mick
Sigh
Poke him with a stick to make sure he’s still breathing.
“Weekend at Perry’s”
Schanuel 1B
Adell RF
Ward LF
Drury 2B
Rengifo 3B
O’Hoppe C

Tonight’s lineup
Once Sanó is back, we’ll have a proper third baseman. I like that lineup.
I love that lineup as we can compete on level ground with the White Sox
yea it’s a really great lineup but gonna be so much better with sano I can’t wait.
The Angels must have a plan to temporarily replace Trout, right?
Well both Salt Lake and Rocket City are playing right now and there have been NO moves to replace a normal starter either before or during the game. The Front office knew well before game time that Trout was out so why would you not have a plan in place to fill the MLB roster?
. Marisnick is still on the minor league IL, Hicks is in purgatory ( they wouldn’t dare try to bring him back would they?) Pillar is now a free agent but he has sucked for years now. So their only real source is someone from the minors.
How can you not already have a plan in place? This seems like such incompetence. At least if you are going to play a man short at least do us all a favor and make it Suarez and not a position player ( even if none of them can hit)
Most MLB teams are playing 5-D Chess…..we are playing Candy Land.
👏 👏 👏
Candy Crush would have been better
So true.
Negotiating with Kevin Pillar took all that time from Perry from bringing up someone from the minors.
Angels really just gonna trot out a choose your own adventure lineup tonight with the roster.
Dora the Explorer
Canceled MLB TV subscription. There’s nothing left to see here
Watch Detmers, Silseth, Adell, Moniak and Ward grow into perennial all-stars? That’s what I’m doing.
😆
I believe.
“There are people who walk against then wind. Then, there are people who pee against the wind.”
I know what drives us to succeed.
we’re not going with a lineup tonight. It’s just whoever feels like it can go up and hit
😆
Free Form Jazz….go where it takes us. Maybe they are waiting to get a Summer Sausage to touch, like the Twins before they announce it.
A lottery to pick fans from the stands.
More details from Fletcher:
Heartbreaking
The calf stain injury from a few years ago is holding on line 2……..said it’s urgent.
The only thing missing is Trout saying “I sneezed and heard my knee snap”
the Phillies have 4 guys who are injured, all due back by May 10. We have 10 players hurt, with some like due June 1 (at least), July 2 (at least), July 1 (at least), or out for the season.
Seeing the news now.
Im sad 😔💔😭
My Lord, what could have been:
And 50 RBIs
Some people just don’t age well.
We all knew going in that this team was not a winner, but at least we had Trout, that and watching the younger players even in losing was not the end of the world, heck even yesterday we saw Mike score from second with heads up awareness hustle and scoring. He even had a stolen base in getting to second. I always hated hearing we wasted Mike’s career, maybe/maybe not, but he wanted to be here and that’s what counted. Should be back after the All-Star break though, so this is not the end of a career, we been here and done this before.
The constant downtime, recovery process, etc. MUST have an impact on his hitting, right?
At this point I think that he really believed that he was still capable of an 8 WAR season type year, and he was giving his all and was having issues hitting the ball, now another layoff….let’s hope for the best.
I presume that Rengifo is leading off, beyond that? Pure guesswork.
2B – Rengifo
1B – Schanuel
LF – Ward
CF – Adell
DH – Drury
C – O’Hoppe
RF – Moniak
3B – Adrianza
SS – Neto
How long do they plan on hiding Sano’s eventual IL trip?
Seriously. I’ve already forgotten about him.
Less than 90 min to game time and still no lineup.
Probably having a very long team meeting
Was in the shower and listening to the radio, we get JFI up here, I wasn’t positive that what I thought I heard was what I heard, jumped out dry off and ran to the pc-MLB-sad day. Won’t lie about this, I expected it. He and Redone are just the saddest guys around. If it can be injured these guys of glass can and will break it. Tony was just coming around, Mike was hitting with power and playing all out. Very bummed out now. For Mike it’s the thoughts of what could have been. 😵 😳 😢 😭 😱
Electricity and water do not mix GPB. No radio in the shower.
I have a radio in the shower too.
They do make battery shower radios, you know.
I think he meant to say ham radio….
🐖 📻
Doesn’t everyone keep their Ham and Philco radio in the bathroom?
Yes, along with duct tape & WD40.
Water Proof too.
No soap. Radio.
The legendary return of Mike Trout was one of the very few threads I was banking on this year. That’s beyond depressing. Definitely phoning it in as a fan now.
