All right. I just listened to a lengthy interview of Ron Washington about why he sits rookies on the bench. I’m sure, wherever he is, Mike Scioscia gave it two thumbs up. I wasn’t paying close attention, but I think he must have been talking about Jo Adell.
Inning #1
Anthony Rendon got an apparent infield hit and then left the game with an alleged injury to his left leg. They ended up calling it a hamstring issue.
Zach Neto came in to pinch run. Mike Trout singled. Taylor Ward flied out. Miguel Sano doubled to score Neto and drive Trout to third.
Brandon Drury grounded out to score Trout. 2-0 Angels.
Spencer Steer singled sharply to third where Rengifo was playing after the departure of Rendon. Rengifo threw wildly and Steer tried for second base. Both sides asked for review and Steer was awarded second base.
Stuart Fairchild doubled to drive in Steer. 2-1 Angels. Jeimer Candalario walked. Christian Encarnacion-Strand struck out. Elly de la Cruz also walked to load them up. Tyler Stephenson hit a grand slam to make it 5-2 Angels. Santiago Espinal then struck out. Most of this cannot be blamed on Sandoval as far as I am concerned. I am looking at you Luis Rengifo.
Inning #2
The Angels batters saw all of seven pitches in the course of grounding out three times. Bubba Thompson struck out. Jonathan India grounded out. Spencer Steer flied out to Mike Trout.
Inning #3
Zach Neto struck out and Mike Trout flied out. Taylor Ward walked to bring up Miguel Sano, who singled. Brandon Drury lined out to short to end the festivities.
Stuart Fairchild walked. Jeimer Candalario struck out. with Christian Encarnacion-Strand batting, the Angels caught Fairchild trying to steal second. Encarnacion-Strand then struck out.
Inning #4
Mickey Moniak grounded out. So did Luis Rengifo. Logan O’Hoppe struck out. Elly de la Cruz walked. He was awarded second on a disengagement violation. He was out stealing third. Tyler Stephenson struck out. Santiago Espinal doubled. Bubba Thompson grounded out.
Inning #5
Three up three down for the Angels again. Jonathan India singled. Spencer Steer walked. Stuart Fairchild singled to score India. 6-2 Cincinnati. Jeimer Candalario walked. Christian Encarnacion-Strand struck out. Elly de la Cruz then walked driving in Steer. 7-2 Reds.
Inning # 6
Taylor Ward Walked and Miguel Sano homered. 7-4 Angels. Brandon Drury walked. A wild pitch advanced Drury to second. Mickey Moniak flied out advancing Drury to third. Luis Rengifo grounded out the first, scoring Brandon Drury. 7-5 Angels. Logan O’Hoppe struck out.
Bubba Thompson struck out. Jake Fraley flied out. Spencer steer singled. Stuart Fairchild grounded into a force out.
Inning #7
Nolan Schanuel singled but Zach Neto, Mike Trout, and Taylor Ward were all out on balls in the air. Elly de la Cruz did walk yet again with two outs. A fielding error by Brandon Drury also put Tyler Stephenson aboard. Santiago Espinal struck out fortunately.
Inning #8
Miguel Sano struck out. Brandon Drury singled to left. Mickey Moniak flied out. Luis Rengifo then grounded out.
Luis Garcia came in to pitch. He struck out both Will Benson and Jake Fraley. Spencer Steer singled. Stuart Fairchild popped out.
Inning #9
Logan O’Hoppe popped out. Nolan Schanuel struck out. Zach Net flied out to right. The Angels lose 5-7 to Cincinnati.

No opponent from the Western Time Zone until 5/31. Geez.
I know we have to play every team.
That is weird…manfraud hates Arte.
Raise your hand if you know why manfraud hates Arte.
Given our “situation” at 3B and 1B, Sano has a real opportunity to get 400+ at bats and make a play for “Comeback Player Of The Year”, doesn’t he?
Don’t forget he lost a metric shit-ton of blubber too!
I wonder if he has “Ozempic face”…..
Yup. 150 pounds = One Adam Cimber.
I realize almost everyone here enjoys the “dump on Rendon” game, but the hammy injury is a bummer. Dude was producing and he was playing hard.

Yeah, I’m not gonna dump on Rendon. Dude was playing well and giving his 100% effort. He finally found his place as a leadoff hitter. Hopefully there’s no muscle tear and he’ll only miss a few games.
As self-appointed chairman of the CtPG welcoming committee, it’s a pleasure to present a Laurel and Hardy handshake to Anthony Rendon for being available to play for the first month of the 2024 season. He caught the ball, he hit the ball, and he threw the ball consistent with what’s expected of an average MLB player. For doing his job, I hereby present him with the esteemed:
He should have played football. That way 20 games would be a full season and he could go home and count his money.
And he has taken his rightful position on the throne of the DL. Like Thanksgiving, it can mess around every year.
Let’s just get a W today by hook or crook and get home at 10-12. Not fantastic, but better than most anticipated after 22 games. This is a brutal schedule to start and the only way is thru….
BULLPENS STILL DON’T MATTER BTW!!!
as proven by that disaster extra inning loss in TB
I agree in the sense that having a bunch of starters batting we below .200 and having numerous starting pitchers that can’t be relied upon, are the more pressing concerns.
Mets signed Harrison Bader on a one year for basically around the same price tag, while we got stuck with Aaron Hicks for 2 yrs. Bader is 3 yrs younger and a way better defensive player too!!!
I hope this is the last game we ever see A Hicks in an Angel uniform.
Just release him…making the minimum he will catch on somewhere.
It would appear that there is not a commitment to “play the kids”, at least not from Walsh. O’Hoppe, Neto, and Schanuel are going to play regardless because there is no logical replacement on the roster but Adell and Moniak are basically out of luck because Wash has Hicks, Sano, Drury, and Rengifo to DH and play RF. So we are losing anyway but wasting the opportunity to evaluate all of our younger players.
Adell not playing today is a total head scratcher to me. The team isn’t hitting and Jo is one of the few guys showing signs of life. I do wonder if this could be Hicks’ last stand….
Adell is currently out performing a bunch of other guys.
Adell is a bust
He’s proven that he’s not capable of hitting MLB pitching. Other than Detmers and Ohtani name some other players that Eppler brought in who are contributing.
Well that would mean the other guys aren’t either because he is currently hitting better than they are which is all I said. I don’t necessarily disagree with you but this year we have the luxury of playing him everyday for a month to verify that. He has never had consistent playing time.
By playing Adell we’re wasting the force that is Hicks….
😆😆😆😆😆

Batting a .152 hitter at lead off??? That is some coke head logic right there.
I guess you cold say he’s due but that’s a stretch at best.
The entire order is struggling at the moment with the possible exception of Sano.
Trout over the last 7 games:
6 for 29
2 HR
3 RBI
4 BB
8 SO
He’s batting .217 on the road overall.
There’s fuel in the tank,
HomerPerry acquired the “talent”, and Wash has his helmet on. It’s never to early to think about the draft.TANK!
.306 avg $9.5M
I think I’d rather have Sano at 1/10 of the cost. I notice you didnt post Bader’s numbers the last 2 years. Why is that Toots?
Hicks as leadoff?! 🤢🤮
Wash is just throwing darts right now.
With not much other good options, I would put Moniak in leadoff and see if he can regain some of last year’s magic. Same way Nevin put him at leadoff when he was called up and he just started raking.
I would’ve put Bader, oh, he’s playing at Dodger stadium this weekend.
😥
A bit surprised that Rengifo isn’t leading off with Rendon down.
I might even try Rengifo leading off followed by Moniak. At this point, no one other than Sano is hitting, what have you got to lose?
Nothing. Which is why Hicks should be jettisoned.
Re Wash talking about sitting rookies…..
Is Adell considered a rookie?
He showed up in 2020, I don’t see how he could still be considered a rookie with almost 200 games under his belt.
That’s my thought as well.
And no options left
Yes, when everybody was still walking around with those disposable masks over their nose and mouth.
This team has become predictable which is both sad and comforting.
OK – Who had game 21 on the Rendon injury guessing game?
Kinda sucks when reality hits.
Right on target – on pace to win 70.
Go team and stuff
Yuk, Yuk, and double Yukky game.
