LA Angels Monday News Crash:

The Angels hired Amir Garrett to a minor league deal on Friday. At least the guy’s got some fire. Let’s hope he pitches OK. The Angels finally got their first win of the season on Sunday.

The Mets-Brewers opener featured a bases clearing incident after an aggressive slide at second base by Rhys Hoskins. He’s not making any friends in New York, and also chipped in a home run against the Mets. Yohan Ramirez then threw behind Rhys Hoskins and got himself ejected. He’s been suspended for three days. He is appealing the suspension and struck out Hoskins in their next meeting.

That injury to Cionel Perez in Saturday’s game was an oblique strain and he is now on the 15 day IL.

The Yankees acquired JT Brubaker plus some international bonus pool space from the Pirates for a player to be named later. Also in Yankees news, they openly posted on their X account that Nestor Cortes hit the over on his strikeouts betting prop. What were they thinking?

Hey Jonah! Get the ball first and then argue with the umpire. Speaking of catchers, the Giants just designated Joey Bart for assignment.

The Athletics just claimed Tyler Nevin off waivers from the Orioles.

Wander Franco is officially off the Rays roster. He is on administrative leave until June 1, 2024. MLB and the union agreed to this.

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a single podcast in my life. Unless maybe my wife put something on, and I listened to it too.
I listen to music on the radio when I’m driving.

Years ago, when Roger first started on the radio, he was on in the morning with a guy named Dave Smith I think. Dave Smith, got fired eventually because he was not a homer, but I used to love listening to him because he told the truth and was interesting.

It’s kinda funny how over time, he went from being “Dodger Lodge”, to the ultimate unlistenable homer. Altho Patrick McHomer is close on his heels.

I’m a bit surprised that Trout isn’t DH’ing today, particularly when Hey Mickey is back and is a fine defensive CF’er.

Earlier before lunch, I did a look at the “top 50 FA” list to verify who was left, and I was seeing how Clevinger and Belt were the last 2 left.
I wondered if we might go for Clevinger, after seeing how Sandy got toasted big time.

But alas, that train has sailed.

Clevinger to White Sox.

I was actually seriously hoping for Soto, Burnes and Kim. If we’re going to spend money and lose draft picks, do it right and all the way.

Of course I wish Arte carried a $300 million pay roll every year. Why not?

they need to spend it wiser and more efficiently naturally but money does by championships. And nothing happened here till Gene broke open the saddle bags.

Juan Soto would be a better option than Adell/Moniak the next 5 years at least. They’re all 25 yrs old as of next week

I can’t get behind any of these long term contracts. It’s a horrific waste of money. Draft and develop players. Then if that works, bring in the occasional free agent pitcher to round out the team. I see Soto as just another opportunity to bemoan a long term contract that doesn’t work out.

Exactly. I always see some angry turd on the interwebs complaining about “playing the guy getting paid because manager is wussy” but they never finish said piss dribble with the list of managers who actually do what they want.

They all bight down hard on the manager saying “he’ll play the best players”… which pretty much every manager says at some point…. and then drop a snot lubed fit every time the manager doesn’t play “the best” guy. Even after three games.

But, if we know managers say that, but don’t mean right away, all the time, at every position and regarding every player, but we get mad anyway, who’s the fking moron in this equation?

Detmers Day was fun. Silseth’s turn!

In a perfect world, the top of our rotation for the rest of the decade will be Detmers-Silseth-Soriano. This season will go a long way in determining how realistic that can be.

Would be sweet to sweep the Marlins. Their bullpen is awful, but they do have noted Angels killer, Jesus Luzardo going tmrw against Anderson. To win the series, we gotta win today.

I agree re Silseth and Detmers but you are giving a starting rotation spot to Soriano after one appearance? That’s the kind of emotional thought that leads to multiple ATM trips in Vegas knowing the next spin will get you even. Let’s wait and see on Soriano a bit before slotting him into the starting rotation for 6 years.

4.25 – 4.50, coupled with an average of 5+ innings per start. Not a bad 5, and will have some trade value.

Keep running these guys out there, keep them healthy, get them into the 6th once in a while and finally get Sandy to where he not embarrassing himself….Not a horrible group… we’ve had worse.

Dodgers are hitting the cover off the ball, let’s hire their hitting coach for a month and give them Rendone are great leadoff hitter. 😂

Angelstan

The Dodgers are going to score tons of runs this year. They have three MVP level hitters in their prime as to their 3. They then have a quality clutch hitter catcher at 4. They have Muncy, and Teoscar. The talent is reminiscent of the Big Red Machine in the 70s but likely better.

For fantasy leagues, people should just draft their guys. Even the smaller players should have good years and score lots of runs.

Cowboy26

And incidentally, despite the arguments here for primarliy building a team through the draft or international Free agent signings, Only 6 of their current 26 man rostered players were drafted or signed as amateurs where the Lowly Angels currently have 11.

Farm = tradeable assets. I figure that nobody can rely on the farm for “stars,” at least more than one or two and relatively few big stars hit free agency nowadays (and they cost several arms and legs).

Hey GP ;

Good morning to you.

Just a little suggestion; you could add those three comments together and make one post. You could give the post the title of “morning reflections” or something like that. Different ideas are then separated into things called paragraphs.

Separating ideas results in cogent response threads, rather than having 3 disparate topics responses blended together. E.g., some have expressed a preference for not having their Angels discussions contaminated with Dodger talk..

Separate can be good.

I get that, but Grandpa has been doing this for a long time. Sometimes he will have 5 or 6 separate, small comments and he will be the only person who has posted on the morning/that day’s first thread. It would be simpler for him to do one comment. The theme of “Morning Reflections” makes it acceptable to comment on a variety of topics within the same post.
