Perry Minasian has found his new puppet manager!
Minasian and Washington worked together in the Braves org from 2017-2020. By all accounts, Washington is very respected across MLB among players and coaches but he has not managed a team since 2014. The question remains – why has no one picked him us as manager during all those years? Minasian said he wanted someone who could command a room and presumably he has found just that.
Other candidates for the role included Buck Showalter, Benji Gil, Torii Hunter, Ray Montgomery and Darin Erstad.
It’s incredibly hard!!
💪 💪 😃
You shouldn’t take Viagra alone.
Now that the decision has been made I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. He does have a history of winning. Here’s to returning to relevance
Bring on the rumored new staff, especially Tori returning to help.
GPB take and it’s late.
Washington was a winning manager. His winning team had no choice but to relieve him of his duties due to very poor personal decisions.
Prior to his managing career he was a high rated coach by players.
When his career resumed, he was once again a sought-after coach.
Is age important? Yes, it should be, but older managers have been in vogue in recent history.
Does salary that he will work for enter into the equation? Damn right it does.
George Steinbrenner proved something in the late ’70s and early 80’s, with the right and strong roster it does not matter who the manager is if he is respected. The Angels do not have the right roster to be winners, so it comes down to what Washington can do to help the players.
I do not believe that there is anyone who can make the Angels winners except the Angels themselves. There is no GM that can turn this team around in just one season. As long as Arte refused to trade Shohei and start a rebuild shows he is not interested in providing a winner anytime soon. DD (Downing Dude) was right when he posted that the only thing that all of us here at CtPG can all agree on is that Arte should sell.
In truth, who would be willing to come and manage this team other than has been old retreads. Sure, we all had opinions on who we would have liked to see as manager, but we got a new manager now, who will be easily replaced at All Star break in ’25.
POV, I like to read everyone’s post even if I disagree with them, that is what makes our site so special-different opinions otherwise it would be boring here.
Washington = $1
That sums it up
I think you’re not being fair at all…$2
But Then we would have had to hire Reggie Jefferson as our new manager.
if this staff turns out to be what we’re hearing I’ll be happier about the signing.
With a lot of Angel ties too so depending upon who the pitching coach and bullpen coach are This staff could be the best Angel coaching staff since, well….
Mike Scioscia Manager
Joe Maddon Bench Coach
Alfredo Griffin 1B coach
Ron Roenicke 3B Coach
Bud Black Pitching Coach
Mickey Hatcher Hitting Coach
Bullpen Coach Bobby Ramos
Gubie or Langston as pitching coach
CJ Wilson for team photographer
Is Granderson available?
Grandy is a stand-up guy.
Caught his set at the Improv. Decent, but the prop jokes have gotta go.
Are we talking about MLB jobs or “connected” guys? Lulz
He is, for 4/58, but then we are definitely out on Wilson.
I hate the signing which means it’s gonna be a good thing. For sure.
LOL, nice self-awareness
Torii! Torii! Torii!
I’m so stoked to have one of my all time favorite players back as an Angel.
Not happy with Ron Washington as manager but I am happy we get Torii back as a result of it!
Excited for Chili to back as hitting coach as well if rumors are true.
Tori Hunter will be manager in 2026
I’ll get used to it but he’s still a Ranger to me.
Yeah, at this point I’m not excited about it. If he wins…
Dino Ebel (Don’t know if he was in running or not) is always a bridesmaid and never a bride…..
I heard Ebel is going to the Netherlands. They need MOAR WINDMILLS
In the tone, of Ron in Moneyball. “We’re overlooking one thing. We don’t have starting pitching and we play in the same league as Texas, Houston and Seattle.”
“Don’t worry Ron, we’ll replace Ohtani in the aggregate.”
2 players batting .154!
Good maff skills.
Due to Washington’s age, I hope there’s a defibrillator in the clubhouse, just sayin’…..
It might come in handy at our quarter season record hits him like a drunk Marine.
Yes, but does Washington have an outdoor pizza oven?
In NFL parlance, Ron Washington is the “bridge QB” to Torii Hunter.
Precisely how I interpret this as well.
Let us pray
Yes bring on Andrew Romine!
What has Torii Hunter done to show that he has manager make-up? Give me Erstad.
Why would Erstad leave his home state of Nebraska (I believe he is a hunter & angler) to come to this dumpster fire?
Hunter can have some time near the hotseat to see if he wants it in the future.
Erstad is from that Northeastern Dakota-Carolina thing
I’ll never forget Erstad is from North Dakota because when I was going to school there, the local newspaper had a section dedicated to his stat line each day.
They even had Angel games on the radio there in Jamestown. Good God, you lived there? You must be some weather handling badass!
Haha I got out of that weather as soon I could! I lived in a little town Bottineau for my junior high/high school years.
I’m not making a case for any of these guys up or down, I’m just commenting on the path the team is taking.
The roster & health are what concerns me.
He has some Maybelline makeup called “shades of manager”
Interesting blurb from the Disney Company News (The Register) :
Washington reportedly already has plans for his staff, including Torii Hunter as first base coach, Eric Young Sr as third base coach, Chili Davis as hitting coach, Clint Hurdle as bench coach and Ryan Goins as infield coach.
Man, I scrolled thru the comments and remembered why I haven’t come back in a while. Vast majority are whiny and annoying lol.
The hiring of Wash is fine, if not good.
The real coup here is the rest of the staff … At first glance, I assume Torii will be mentored to eventually take over. EY Sr. is highly regarded in coaching cirlces as well.
“Ron Washington, the first Black manager hired in 3 years, also plans to have a star-studded diverse coaching staff:
Chili Davis, hitting coach
Torii Hunter, 1B
Eric Young Sr., 3B
Clint Hurdle, bench coach
Ryan Goins, infield coach”

I think we are entitled to our pessimism until the on-field product relieves us of it.
But I am incredibly happy to see Trouty has his buddy and mentor back in Torii.
Eh, after reading the 10th coke joke I was over it lol. It’s not even pessimism, it’s just obnoxious (yes, I know this is the internet)
Coke jokes cross the line(no pun intended), I’ll give you that.
How about whiskey and weed?
Sounds like my usual Saturday night.
Agreed, Hunter is a good add to the organization.
Trout needs to be traded. If we have to endure another year with his chubby ass sitting out games, my head will implode.
I will happily endure Trout for the remainder of his contract. He played in just more than half the games, and even in those 82 games had 2.9 bWAR/3fWAR. He is far from washed up.
Guys like Torrii and Jimmy Rollins are just great guys to have around an organization. They mentor because they love it. Torrii Hunter mentors so many players that they actually move to Dallas to be around him in the off-season. I heard that’s why Royce Lewis bought a place there. Clint Hurdle is like that too.
Yeah, while Washington was a letdown as a hire I love to see both Torii and Chili Davis. I was very impressed with what Chili did as Batting Coach for a young A’s team a few years back .. As for Torii I always felt he was a natural born leader. He would make a great manager.
Two great former Angels back on board !!!
Davis, Hunter and Young are all good for helping the youngins and were gamers during their career.
Gotta say I like the supporting staff. Vocal leadership been an issue with this club for a while since our stars have been quiet guys.
It’s a huge deal!
For as old as Wash is, Torii and EY Sr are young(er) and will bring the energy and vocal leadership. Incredible additions to the dugout imho.
That’s fine, bring in all these names that we have heard of. They don’t throw pitches, play defense or run the bases. This team is sub-500 at its core.
I don’t disagree. As the off-season unfolds it will provide ample time to analyze roster construction.
Presently, however, just talking about the hiring of Wash and his staff. And I like it for the reasons already stated.
Baseball guys? How insane. Call me crazy, but I love this staff. But who is going to be the pitching guy and how much pull will he have throughout the system? That needs an overhaul for sure.
I have no opinion on this really. I am not upset whatsoever and not excited by it either.
I have entered the numb phase of fandom….which is….cool? I think?
I’m just passing the time until I see where Ohtani ends up and if I can morally root for that team. Then I really won’t give a shit
Coke is now the newest Halo sponsor.
