Angels won a close one 1-0

Today we had Kenny Rosenberg versus Sonny Gray. Here are the starting lineups.

Rosenberg struck out the first two Twins batters and then proceeded to load the bases in the first inning. Luckily, he got Matt Wallner to fly out to right to end the inning.

Sonny Gray was striking everybody out today. Kenny Rosenberg struck out his share. David Fletcher made a brilliant diving play in the bottom of the third inning.

Jo Adell followed this up with a homer in the top of the fourth inning. 1-0 Angels.

Kenny Rosenberg managed to get through the fifth inning with a nice double play behind him.

The Angels carried their lead into the bottom of the sixth when Jimmy Herget came in. He threw an awful lot of pitches but he did manage to set the Twins down in order. Jo Adell contributed a nice catch.

Ben Joyce needed only seven pitches to get through the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, Nolan Schanuel got an infield hit to keep his on base streak alive. Close one!

He was gunned down at home trying to score from first on a Brandon Drury double. Drury advanced to third on the play.

Jose Soriano struck out the first batter he faced with curve balls but then zapped Donovan Solano with a fastball to put a man on. The Angels erased him with another nice double play started by David Fletcher. Here are extended looks at both of the double plays.

In the ninth, Jo Adell coaxed a one out walk out of Josh Winder and then Eduardo Escobar singled. Michael Stefanic advanced them to second and third with a ground out to third. Chad Wallach grounded out for the third out.

Carlos Estevez came in and hit the lead off man Kyle Farmer. Angels batters better keep their heads down tomorrow. Estevez struck out the next two guys. A fly out to Grichuk ended the game.

Wantz on the bump to start…ugly tank for starters.

Okay, it’s Sunday morning, I expect that all of the tanks have had their maintenance done, and all the tank commanders have been briefed and prepared for today’s action. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT FUBAR this mission like you did yesterday!!! We have a mission with a clear goal here people, and that mission is to get a top 6 pick in the draft. A number 10 to 17 is simply unacceptable!!

It’s going to be tough in both the National and American Leagues to pick the 2023 CYA winners after the season ends as multiple possibilities exist in both Leagues.

A good Sunday morning to all. Here’s is hoping to the Angels playing another game with guys playing different positions. Fletcher is one of my favorites on the team and I will never forgive Fat Face Finner (PTP) for his mis – handling Fletch this season.

Having many players who are capable of playing more than one position is impressive.

  1. Shohei is counted as a TWP (Two Way Player) the very best kind.
  2. Thaiss has C and 1b on his resume.
  3. Moose plays 3b and 1b and did well for us this season, btw, I see coaching in his future and hoping it’s with us.
  4. Rengifo can list 2b, SS, 3b, OF, off and has a cannon arm, now if he could only play a full season like he does in August and September.
  5. Walsh is a great fielder at both 1b and RF with a plus arm and he is always aware of where needs to make his next play.
  6. Fletcher is the best 2b we have fielding but Fletch can also count in great plays out at SS, 3b and OF.
  7. Gio Urshela prior to being injured played 1b, 2b, SS, 3b, now that’s being talented.
  8. Brandon Drury has been at 1b and 2b this season.
  9. Taylor Ward can be put at LF, RF, 3rd, 1b, and in a real pinch could show up at C.
  10. Michael “Plumber” Stefanic 2b, 3b.
  11. Those who have moved on; Kevin Padio 1b, 3b, Jake Lamb 1b, 3b, Hunter Renfroe RF, 1b, Squid-Andrew Valazquez 2b, 3b, SS, LF, CF.

Huge change in the game in the last 10 years or so having so many multi-position players. Now if they only all could pitch as good as Eduardo Escobar 😃 Escobar by the way is capable of playing 1b and 3rd.

GB you usually nail it, but Perry didn’t mishandle Fletch. Your blind love for him colors the hard, cold, statistical decline over the last 3 seasons nearly everyone sees. And if he was such a great player, how did he pass waivers TWICE this season when any MLB team could have grabbed him for free? I’m happy to see him play well in TWO games, but he isn’t the second coming of Adam Kennedy.

It is a pure joy to watch and rewatch the three highlight reel plays that David Fletcher initiated in the game. Michael Stefanic showed he can play also in turning the two DP.

At this rate no chance for a slim chance at the lotto – good for the players who excelled today – meaningless wins while Washington and StL continue to lose. Nobody can point to the Angels and scream “Tanker’s” can they……jeez.

Nothing would please me more than having the Mariners miss the playoffs. It is in the hands though, 3-games w/Astros and 5-games w/Rangers.

Scott Schoeneweis turns 43 in a couple of days, not sure he’s wanting to get back in the game 13 years out of it.

I think he meant Matt Shoemaker who, in the never ending quest to give grown men cute nicknames, was loved here as “Ol’ Shoey”.

So, at 76 he would probably only be good for 98 pitches a game and one start per week.

I know he wouldn’t come here, why would he?

Craig Counsell might be the hottest MLB free agent not named Shohei Ohtani. What makes the Brewers’ manager so special?

Today’s Tank Commander is the entire Twins organization. When you get 5 hits and no runs off of Kenny Rosenberg, you deserve to be ashamed, embarrassed, and forced to listen to Coach Prime’s press conferences in perpetuity.

Our 122mm cannon was taken out. And Estevez relied on hand to hand combat.

Bad day for the tank. Mets and Tigers lost, the jacuzzi is getting full of tankers.

Little more consistency would be good. I’m not convince, “breakout” is coming. We’ve seen this movie before. Couple thunderous home runs, fade into oblivion. Right?

But I’m good with just sticking him in right for a full year like we did with Ward. 2024 is a tank year.

In September, 18 ABs, 4-hits, 8 strikeouts. That is roughly a 1-4 game with 2-strikeouts per 4 ABs. Sure, he connected in a couple. Hoping for more consistency.

And how many walks over that same period of time ? Compared to his previous career totals and walk rates this is a game changer . Unlike O’Hoppe & Neto, Adell has had the MLB at bats to improve and we’re seeing it .

Cowboy26

Now go look at O’Hoppe Moniak and even Neto’s strike out and walk ratios over their last 30 to 50 at bats and tell me that’s not more concerning

I need more than 18 ABs to convince me that he has regained his status as the No. 3 MLB prospect status. You’re sold, that’s fine.

Cowboy26

Reply to  FungoAle

I’m not sold and Im not sure what some nebulous prospect ranking from years ago even means.

I get the SSS, but I see real improvement unlike what Ive seen from him in 3 previous seasons.

I actually have more concerns right now about our other core Cherubs
