It was a packed house at Target Field. Champagne on ice. Friday night. Oh, yeah, the Twins and their fans were ready to party.
The Angels read the room and gave the Land of Prince crowd just what they wanted: a division title party.
There were some highlights for the Angels, though. Just something to entertain the crowd while they waited for their magic number to hit zero.
First, an absolute bomb by Walsh:
And the rookie on base machine continued to get on base, this time with an RBI hit to tie the game.
I’m going to publicly state it. Logan O’Hoppe is my favorite non-Trout or Ohtani player on the Angels. Which makes him my favorite active player. He hit a three run bomb to get the Angels to an 8-5 deficit in the 8th.
Our halos made the party hosts wait a bit, though. Scoring a run in the 9th to cut the lead to 8-6 and bringing the winning run to the plate. A pop up by Shanuel brought the second out of the inning.
The Twins crowd rose in anticipation. They had to wait some more. Neto worked a walk. Bases loaded, two outs, Brandon Drury at the plate. He bounced out to second to end the game.

Even if we are in ‘tank’ mode (and doing well with that), I feel encouraged. Without any of our stars (Trout, Ohtani) or even solid starting pitching, we are hanging in to games with the best teams in the league. How often can one say a tanking team is only steps away?
If the Twins get swept in the postseason, would this be worse then?
I can answer that based on 2014.
Winning 98 games and then being swept in the first round by KC was its own kind of body blow.
But the 21014 season was an absolute blast. So this current situation is way worse in my mind than making the playoffs and getting swept in the first round.

KC that year had a heck of a bullpen. Starter goes 6 and you had a gauntlet of fireballers to try and stage a comeback. Angels were throttled big time.
Their starters were mediocre but their defense was elite . I lost count how many “almost hits” we had that series.
