Angels Got Swept Postgame

Jimmy Herget pitched a scoreless inning as an opener today. Kenny Rosenberg came in and gave up a homer to Jake Rogers in the second and four other runs in the third including a second homer by Rogers to stake the Angels to a 5-0 deficit after three innings. It’s all part of the plan. In the bottom of the fourth, Logan O’Hoppe walked and then jogged from first to third on a two out Randal Grichuk double before an Eduardo Escobar ground out. Way to not score Dude! In his defense, the third base coach had the stop sign up.

In the fifth inning Nolan Schanuel doubled and David Fletcher singled to drive him in. 5-1 Tigers.

In the sixth, Javi Baez got an infield single and advanced to second on a Rosenberg balk. He did not score. Logan O’Hoppe single and Randal Grichuk homered to make it 5-3 Tigers.

Jose Cisnero came in at this point to replace Joey Wentz on the mound. There was no further scoring.

Jose Marte came in to pitch for Kenny Rosenberg. Andy Ibanez walked but Spencer Torkelson hit into a double play. For the Angels half of the frame, Zach Neto walked. David Fletcher reached on a fielder’s choice. The Angels couldn’t score. Still 5-3 Tigers.

Aaron Loup came in to pitch the eighth inning. He managed to get through the inning without giving up any runs. The Angels had three ground outs.

Andrew Wantz came in for the ninth inning and allowed no more runs. The Angels went three up three done and got swept by the Detroit Tigers.

Hats off to Loup for a slight improvement lately after helping us lose so many games throughout the season with his shit pitching abilities. Sorry for the negativity but he best be gone next year or I may have to burn a team hat or something. Loup should be exhibit A as to why this team failed to compete this year right beside Rendone!

He is like a virus. He is the guy who doesn’t hold a door open for a lady approaching behind him. He doesn’t pay it back or forward. He takes his dog for a walk and does not bring a poop bag with him. His meal costs 50 bucks and he tips in change. He needs to go.

What a difference 7 weeks makes.

In late July we swept the Tigers, Shohei was raking, Trout was (supposedly) close
to returning and the team decided to go all-in for a playoff run.

7 weeks later, everything that could conceivably go wrong did wrong and this is all punctuated by being swept at home by the….Tigers.

… and the very first thing that went horribly wrong was deciding to go all-in and not trade people away.
😉
Sorry, couldn’t resist, I know we had different opinions there probably.
Joking around is all we have left this baseball season.

With inconsistent playing time with the big-league team and tearing in up at AAA, why wasn’t Fletcher given a chance when Drury went on the IL? Perry isn’t too bright imho, no reason at all playing roster days with Fletcher.

The Angels are very capable of finishing 4-8 to close it out. This is early Spring Training invitation qualifying time. Detmers dinged today – really? The Tank is on, which is Ok with me. 5th worst record is possible yet.

3 players need to finish this last 12 strong, Walsh, Fletcher and Grichuk, PTP doesn’t want them as he has shown.

Fletcher issue was a games played one and the extra cost/salary related to those incentives.

And he sucked both offensively and defensively after rejoining the team in Late June.

Perry made the right moves with Fletch this season. If he’s truly healthy he will be an integral part of this team next year .

Respectfully, if Fletcher was all that he would not have cleared waivers. One of 29 teams would have taken the risk of the contract and given him ABs.

29 other GMs agreed with the Platypus.

Let’s not get too excited. Last year’s horrible squad ran off a 7 game winning streak at just about this point

Here’s hoping the Angels finish 0-12. That should get them spot 5.

You should be more positive about being negative.

This team stinks. The manger, pitching coach and 3rd base coach alone will lose games for us.
No worries. Angels Winning that many games in a row, who’s ever heard of such a thing? Ha! 😀

Why aren’t the Nationals in the top 6? They have a worse record than the Angels.

Answer to my own question:

“A Large Market and non-revenue sharing team, like the Nationals, cannot have a lottery pick in consecutive years, meaning the Nationals would not be allowed to pick in the top 6 in 2024 since they received a top 6 pick in 2023.”

Angels are a large market team so the same would apply to them if they get a top-6 this season.

Also Detroit and Pittsburgh cannot have a top 6 pick this year.

No, Angels are good for 2024 as the rules prohibit if you were eligible for the “lottery, Angels did not participate in 2023, 11th selection.

The Washington Nationals and Texas Rangers are ineligible to participate in the 2024 MLB Draft Lottery, as per a rule in the collective bargaining agreement between Major League Baseball and MLBPA that limits teams in larger markets from winning draft lottery picks in consecutive seasons.

Angels will be excluded in 2025 lottery if they if the qualify this year I sure hope so cuz the tank is rolling.

Right – I meant 2023 for this year even though draft is in 2024. We are saying the same thing.

Nats, and Detroit are considered big market teams as are the Angels. So Nats and Detroit cannot be in the top 6 in the next draft because they had top 6 picks in the last draft and are big market teams.

If Angels get a top 6 pick this next draft, they cannot have one in the following years.

Only teams that can receive top 6 picks in consecutive years are Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Cincinnati and Milwaukee.

We are saying the same thing.

Given these changes and limitations, I would argue not trading Shohei for top prospects was an even bigger mistake.

Copy that. Pirates are have been selecting early for ever it seems. I think they should stretch the size of the market provisions.

Important loss for the tank.

7th worst record and 2 games back of 5th, and that’s the highest we will be able to climb.

Top 5 pick would be fun

I need to read up on the lottery rules. If we end up with the 6th worst record, what’s the worst we can pick? How many teams could jump us?

Yikes. So if we have the 7th worst record, which we have as of today) trAdition says we’ll pick 13th

Fansince1971
Legend

The odds would be really remarkably against that. If they end up with the 7th worst record, the reality is they are unlikely to pick any lower than 8th.

Hopefully they will be in the 5th position which gives them a 10% chance at pick 1 and a likelihood of picking no lower than 6 in the first round.

Also, it’s important that, after the first round, all other rounds go by record. The lottery applies only to the first round.

So, if the Angels end up with the fifth worst record, and Ohtani leaves, not accepting a qualifying offer, the Angels would have two second round picks, which could prove very important.

I don’t wanna look at that article.
Why, because the Orioles were a 110 loss team in 2021 today, they have the best record in the American League.

Cowboy26

Here. This will help. https://www.tankathon.com/mlb/pick_odds

But You realize under the rules of TrAdition we will still end up with the 10th pick, right?

Thats why the crime of tanking never pays.

Who’s the best college catcher available in the 2024 MLB Draft?
We’re not taking a starting pitcher, especially if Scott Boras is his agent Besides we always take catchers #1 Once again we can’t go with either American HS players or Latin players for obvious reasons.
Mike Trout and Ervin Santana the last of the Mohicans (last good American HS star and last good Latin player we developed)..

How do you know this, Twofuss? We took a college pitcher with our no. 1 pick in 2021, Perry’s first year.
