Another Losing Postgame

Can Tyler Anderson tank as well as Griffin Canning? Well: I think he can.

Inning 1:

Matt Vierling walked. Andy Ibanez singled. Then Anderson got two guys to strike out and then Miguel Cabrera flied out. Nolan Schanuel singled, Zach Neto walked, Drury struck out, O’Hoppe struck out, and Jared Walsh flied out to center. Not much of an inning.

Inning 2:

Tyler Nevin doubled. Javier Baez walked. Carson Kelly lined out and then Zach Short homered to make it 3-0 Tigers. Andy Ibanez struck out to end the inning. David Fletcher walked. Brett Phillips struck out. Kyren Paris struck out. Jordyn Adams flied out to center.

Inning 3:

Spencer Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter both struck out. Miguel Cabrera grounded out to short. Nolan (No Power) Schanuel homered to make it 3-1 Tigers. I wonder if he’s going to be able to get that ball back.

Zach Neto struck out looking. Brandon Drury walked. Logan O’Hoppe struck out swinging. So did Jared Walsh.

Inning 4:

Tyler Nevin walked. Javi Baez lined out to left. Carson Kelly flied out to center. Zach Short also walked “driving” Tyler Nevin to second. Matt Vierling flied out to right field. David Fletcher struck out. Brett Phillips, who will probably be pitching late innings tonight, also struck out. Kyren (can HE pitch) Paris struck out swinging.

Inning 5:

Andy Ibanez lined out straight to Anderson.

Spencer Torkelson struck out. Kerry Carpenter walked. Miguel (MVP?) Cabrera singled. Kerry Carpenter scored. 4-1 Tigers. If you know, you know.

Tyler Nevin struck out swinging. Jordyn Adams lined out to third. Sham Wow flied out to left. Zach Neto struck out swinging.

Inning 6:

Andrew Wantz came in to pitch. Javier Baez flied out. Carson Kelly struck out looking. Zach Short lined out to second. Brandon Drury struck out swinging. That makes 13 Ks for the Angels so far. Logan O’Hoppe struck out looking. (14 now.) Jared Walsh grounded out to second.

Inning 7:

Jimmy Herget came in to pitch. Ha! He did strike out Matt Vierling swinging. Pinch hitter Akil Baddoo also struck out swinging. Spencer Torkelson popped out to Zach Neto at short. Who is this pitcher and what have you done with Jimmy Herget? David Fletcher popped out to second. Brett Phillips grounded out to first. Kyren Paris … well you know. (15)

Inning 8:

Now Jose Suarez came in to pitch. Kerry Carpenter flied out to left. Miguel Cabrera grounded out. Tyler Nevin singled. Javier Baez walked. Carson Kelly flied out to right field. Jordyn Adams grounded out to shortstop Javier Baez. Nolan Schanuel flied out to Akil Baddoo in left. Zach Neto grounded out to Tyler Nevin at third.

Inning 9:

Unfortunately, we aren’t losing badly enough for Phillips to pitch. Carlos Estevez came in to pitch. He issued your basic four pitch walk to Martin Short, I mean Zach Short. Matt Vierling struck out. Short stole second base while Akil Baddoo was in the process of drawing a six pitch walk. Spencer Torkelson popped out to first. Kerry Carpenter struck out. Brandon Drury grounded out to short. Logan O’Hoppe singled on a liner to center field. Yet another ninth inning homer for Jared Walsh suddenly made things interesting. 4-3 Tigers.

David Fletcher struck out swinging for the second out. Brett Phillips then homered to tie the game at 4-4. Kyren Paris then struck out. Here is Phillips:

Inning 10:

Jose Soriano came in to pitch. Uh oh! Miguel Cabrera singled to drive in ghost runner Kerry Carpenter. 5-4 Tigers. Tyler Nevin flied out to center. Javier Baez struck out swinging. Pinch Runner Parker Meadows stole second base while Carson Kelly was batting. Kelly proceeded to strike out swinging. Eduardo Escobar pinch hit for Jordyn Adams and struck out swinging. Nolan Schanuel singled on a grounder to third. The ghost runner couldn’t advance. Zach Neto struck out (18 for the team). Brandon Drury lined out to center. Game over man! Game over.

in his last 9 games: .333/.394/.667

Just dont ask him to steal any bases as a pinch runner.

Nolan Schanuel (98 PA)
.296 BA / .418 OBP / .346 SLG
.764 OPS
112 OPS+
15.3 BB%
12.3 K%
21-game on base streak to begin his career.

Nolan is 21 years old and was drafted 3 months ago. Extreme talent.

Perry can really draft. I’ll be bummed if he isn’t kept around to run the rebuild.

Not with substandard defense and a .300 SLG.

Perry has drafted 9th, 13th and 11th. I mean, you should come away with a good shot of talent that will contribute at the major league level.

As I look at the whole embodiment of his drafts, nothing screams out to me the he “can really draft.” The 2022 and 2023 drafts are highly skeptical. 2021 had some interesting arms but this year, took a step back. Yes, Chase Silseth was a good one. I said the day he came up to the big club pitch, he would be much more valuable than the arms selected 1-8.

Angels need all-stars, not guys. Nolan makes contact and will work the count but I need to give it a couple of years to convince me he is not just a guy.

I’ll give my (very basic and simpleton) review of Perry’s 3 drafts once the season concludes.

You make valid points forsure. Neto and Schanuel picks look promising, while the Bachman pick looks like a disaster

re: Bachman, as you recall we were wondering if Kumar Rocker would fall to us. Rocker is 23 now, pitching in A+ ball with a 3.86 ERA. Jack Leiter, Rocker’s Vanderbilt teammate, a sure thing at #2, has turned in two 5+ ERAs in AA ball and walks 5 per 9 innings.

just saying that we need actual scouts

Bachman’s stuff is NASTY. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like his body will hold up.

Realistic outcome is he turns into a 1-inning reliever, which was the concern of many scouts when drafted.

Ideal #2 hitter IMO.

Bah. If a team can’t figure out to utilize a .400 OBP player, it’s a team issue, not a player issue.

Pay me $2 cash, free parking, gas money, 2 Hotdogs, beverage or two, physically carry me to and from my seat, keep me fully updated on the NFL at all times, I want that $2 seat to be front row 3rd base so I can help the 3rd base coach Smutzellman with Adams and Paris running the bases and yell at the Tanking Bums, and a visa gift card for a $1000.00…….then I’ll go.

Tonights home run looked like old Walshy. I watched him on the on-deck circle and to my Lylin eyes his warm up swings looked uncomfortable and restrained unlike that All Star season

But the home run swing was vintage Walshy the ball jumped off his bat just like them old days when we would go to Jared. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SWPhDF7T9Y

Yeah man, I’ve been on the “he’s done” train, but would love to be wrong.

If Nolan is our primary 1B in 24’, perhaps Walsh can replace Renfroe in RF?

PS – Assuming that Moniak & Adell are locks is risky anyway.

And he went and bought beers and pizza at the park. I brought in my food

And he said he was anti angels “to protest poor management and how they run the team.”

Sheesh

I protest by buying cheap seats – walking to the ballpark – bringing in food.

And still cheering the players when I can

So Kyren Paris and his .100 had a perfect night tonight. The PCL 2023 batting leader is buried at SLC with .365. Just what did he do wrong in the THREE starts they gave him to show what he could do. Stefanic never started back to back games and never had a chance to get in a groove. Granted his defense is not superb, but at least adequate for his bat. Some team is going to get a steal this winter when he most likely will be traded. Bag on the PCL all you want but the kid is 40 points higher than his closest competition and deserved the end of year call up much more than Paris. Of course he was undrafted so the FO couldn’t have him instead of one of their wonder kids that was hitting all of .252 at AA. This organization is in complete melt down as everyone here is aware of. It is painfull to watch this happen and it most certainly has affected Trout.
