Mike Trout is our nominee for the Roberto Clement award.
Today Griffin Canning went up against Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers. LOL! The Angels tried their bestest to look as ugly as possible. Guess what. They succeeded. We only had three umpires and two of them were minor league umpires. Here are the starting lineups.
Inning 1:
Canning struck out the first two batters and then he started giving up hits. Two singles and a double resulted in a Tigers run early. 1-0 Tigers. The Angels followed that up with a three up three down inning. The tank is rolling!
Inning 2:
Javy Baez strikeout, Jake Rogers single, Parker Meadows four pitch walk … sheesh I can see where this is going. Matt Vierling flied out but Spencer Torkelson singled to drive in Jake Rogers. A two out single to score a runner from scoring position? Didn’t one of the new rules prohibit that? Anybody? Anybody? 2-0 Tigers. O’Hoppe pop out, Escobar strikeout, Grichuk strikeout. Tank kept a’rollin all night long. Tank kept a’rollin all night long.
Inning 3:
The Tigers just went three up three down What? Fletcher ground out, Adams strikeout, Brett Phillips strikeout.
Inning 4:
Javy Baez homered. 3-0 Tigers. Jake Rogers fly out, Parker Meadows single, Matt Vierling fly out, Spencer Torkelson ground out. Paris bunt single, Zach Neto pop out, Brandon Drury ground out, Logan O’Hoppe strikeout, Eduardo Escobar ground out.
Inning 5:
Tigers three up three down. Randal Grichuk singled on a sharp grounder to third. Fletcher popped out. Jordyn Adams struck out. Brett Phillips then grounded out to second. Three away.
Inning 6:
Zach McKinstry struck out. Javy Baez struck out. Jake Rogers homer. 4-0 Tigers. Parker Meadows strikeout. Paris and Neto struck out. Drury managed to get hit by a pitch. O’Hoppe worked a nine pitch strikeout. Tank patrol ho!
Inning 7:
Jose Marte replaced Griffin Canning on the mound. Matt Vierling struck out. Spencer Torkelson also struck out. Kerry Carpenter grounded out. Eduardo Escobar hit a fly ball out to right. Escobar fly out and a Randal Grichuk pop out before a David Fletcher homer. Yeah, he’s done! 4-1 Angels.
Jordyn Adams contributed a fly out to end the seventh.
Inning 8:
Jhonathan Diaz came in to pitch. Miguel Cabrera single, Andre Lipicius singled, pinch hitter Andre Ibanez singled. Javier Baez doubled to score pinch runner Tyler Nevin, Pinch Runner Zach Short, and Andre Ibanez. 7-1 Tigers. No problem, man! We got this! Jake Rogers singled. Parker Meadows walked. Matt Vierling hit a sacrifice fly to score Javy Baez. 8-1 Tigers. Spencer Torkelson doubled to score Jake Rogers. 9-1 Tigers. We got them right where we want them. Two more runs and we can bring in secret weapon Eduardo Escobar to pitch. Kerry Carpenter singled scoring both Parker Meadows and Spencer Torkelson. 11-1 Tigers. Tyler Nevin walked. The Angels moved some deck chairs around in the infield so Escobar could come in to pitch.
Zach Short flied out to center. Andy Ibanez grounded into a force out. That was a shutdown two thirds of an inning for Escobar, our best relief pitcher extraordinaire. I’m presuming they wilol bring in Phillips for the ninth. Oh, by the way, Phillips doubled to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Paris flied out to center. Wait, I thought that guy went down to Salt lake! Zach Neto and Brandon Drury both struck out.
Inning 9:
Oh dude! Deluxe two-way pitcher Eduardo Escobar came in for a second inning of work. He got Javy Baez to ground out and Jake Rogers to pop out. Parker Meadows also grounded out. I guess he can’t get the save.
Logan O’Hoppe struck out. Eduardo Escobar also struck out. Jared Walsh homered to make it 11-2 Tigers. You never know, I might still be able to wear that Jared Walsh t-shirt I bought from Breaking Ts. David ( Not Done Yet) Fletcher singled and then Jordyn Adams lined out to end the game.
The Angels lost this one 11-2.
CJ Cron is back to save the season, baby!!!
…and Chase “big head” Silseth soon
“Hauling that gargantuan cranium about!”
Now that he’s active, Minasian can try to waive him.
Save the season?
OH MY GOD. OW-TAWNY SUCH A BAD GUY FOR CLEARING HIS LOCKER!
😂
Breaking news!!! Tr-out asked him to leave, walked him out, showed him the gate, and said “Don’t let it hit you in the ass.”

It looks like his teammates will still see Ohtani again.
Why did he wait until yesterday to get an MRI? We will never know the real story.
Dr. Nick does his Free Clinic on Fridays.
It could be as simple as him hoping that it would be something minor, and then when the pain wasn’t subsiding, he got a 2nd opinion. Remember he had an x-ray right after it happened, and it revealed a minor inflammation. When it wasn’t getting better, he got it checked again.
It’s a pattern that Angels injuries are different, and usually more serious than first reported.
And what was sooo important to have someone clean out his longer right then there during the game?
I heard he cleaned out his shorter, too!
🤪
He did it right after the double Donger by Walsh and Fletcher.
My question has nothing to do with cleaning out his longer, or even his locker.
Was hoping for something way more juicy. Wanted to see CtPG go postal!
We have many, many days between now and spring training where we are guaranteed at least 3 episodes of “going postal”! 🤣
My 72-90 prediction is looking pretty good
I assume the press conference will be delayed, then postponed
They are waiting for Ohtani to fly back from Japan 😂
The Angles could have Team Picture Ohtani sub in for the press conference.
So Ippei cleaned out his locker then?
Ippei was my 2nd favorite player.
Amongst my calls for pitching relief last night, one shout across the stadium was me yelling for Ippei to pitch
——-
“The ball looked great coming out of his hand!”
Ippei has a locker?
Of course . Ohtani wasn’t going to share any of his locker with him.
And then put on the IL.
The press conference needs Tommy John.
This irrelevant Ohtani rigamarole is getting in the way of the far more pivotal Fletcher vs. Rengifo debate.
We’re going to need Rengifo, Fletcher, their substitutes, and their substitutes’ substitutes if the Angels are going to have any success next year.
Success next year….😂😂😂😂
I was speaking from the chasm of sar.
And their prostitutes!
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Yes and between Trout and Salmon, we literally have bigger FISH to fry
😄
Chalk me up for Luis.
What debate, Rengifo has to play 3rd, right?
Fletcher vs. Rengifo debate settled by a duel. The weapon of choice is “broadswords”, the big ones. The parking lot, under the big A, tomorrow at dawn.
a one-armed Rengifo still beats Fletcher in a sword battle.
Then Bitch Mittens, make it fair.
Two things that make me happy with all of this ridiculousness.
1. I believe season ticket renewals just went out or are about to go out. What an awful optic. I hope 50% or more do not renew. F Arte. Get him to sell.
2. Arte will likely get a vision into next year’s empty stadium over the last games. Suck that in Arte. You did that to this Org. Sell it please!!
If he does sell, the new owner will not have a prime Trout nor mega superstar Ohtani to build around. It really hurts in my core to think about what could have been these past six years and how Moreno wasted it.
People have to stop going in order to turn this around. There must be consequences.
I’m expecting upwards of 500+ posts on this thread today.
you better get busy then.
The team and player news releases will invigorate the vitriol
I’m a team player! Here is comment #188. Let’s go!
All the Angel dysfunction in the world can’t take the chill out of Eduardo.
Our two best pitchers.
Adams is back there planning his next out on the basepaths.
Well hes got a helluva of a mentor for that in front of him in Phillips.
DIDJA KNOW????

and btw, that ANDERSON pitching for the Halos is JUSTIN Anderson.
His one good year.
loved his walkup song:

I went to the Mariners and Angels game on Wednesday and was hoping I would get to see Ohtani in an Angels uni one last time but unfortunately it didn’t happen. I knew my chances of seeing him were slim when he got pulled from the lineup at the last minute on Monday. Oh well, thanks for everything, Shohei!
Did anyone actually believe Ohtani was coming back from that oblique injury? The brass wanted him to go along with that false hope to suck fans in to the stadium or keep the television ratings up. I’m glad he said I’m out and cleared his gear out of the clubhouse without letting the brass know making them look inept once again.I sure enjoyed watching his career unfold as an Angel and will miss him. This dumpster fire of a team will not be a winning team with or without him next year or for some time ahead.
This has all the hallmarks of a Carpino/Kuhl led organization.
They really have botched this year just badly. I don’t want to see super stars rot in Anaheim any longer. They really should just wipe the slate clean and start afresh, Oakland A’s style. #capitulate
It can’t get worse, can it?
I know. They probably intentionally injured the unicorn as well.
“DID YOU ORDER THE CODE RED????”
You need me on that wall!
Above or below the yellow line……the dumbest ground rule in MLB.
In semi-related news, Shohei’s rather unceremonious end with the Angels certainly puts a damper to his much-anticipated free agency. He’s hitting FA with both pitcher and hitter’s injuries.
Any team who would get him would possibly lose 1-2 pitching years on that contract. And oblique injuries can be quite tricky – just look at Adell and Neto this season.
Reality is, Shohei is a big, legitimate question mark coming into FA.
It’s highly improbable, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him signing WITH the Angels a short, but still lots of $$$$$$, with lots of opt-outs, so he can hit FA again when he’s fully healthy as a two-way player.
He can sign the same short contract elsewhere. He has no connection with the front office, my gut feel is that he will go somewhere where he can trust the process.
Seems like he has interest with the Red Sox and has a relationship with the CEO. Boston would certainly take on any and all health questions marks. If Ohtani wants to feel a frenzy atmosphere, I cannot think where it would be better.
I really doubt any US Media crush would be a bother to perhaps the most famous person in Japan currently
Man I hope not. Would just prolong the agony.
I’m starting a new rumor. The press conference will include an announcement that Ohtani has signed an extension. Now I have to figure out the locker angle
If that is not case.
…..then onward and upward. We have TANKING to do. Lock and load.
Free the Tank.
My sources indicate that the water bottle in the garbage shows that Shohei signed an extension and can now afford a better water bottle.
It includes a Pujols style team commitment clause, and with him and Trout both ending up (after they retire) with an ownership stake.
So here’s how I’m picturing it went down deep within the Angel organization.
Perry (to Arte): Ohtani is done for the season. His oblique injury is not healing and the decision has been made to shut him down.
Arte: Okay but don’t let anyone know. Still need the revenue from fans who think he might be in the lineup. Have Phil keep announcing he’s day-to-day. That will keep those suckers in the seats, buying beer and merch.
A few moments later
Perry (to Phil): Ohtani is day-to-day. That’s what you tell them.
A few hours later.
Perry (to Arte): He’s cleared out his locker and the press saw it! No way to keep the ruse going.
Arte: let me think on it.
Next day
Arte (to Perry and the Org) – release a statement Ohtani is on the 10 day IL.
Quite possibly
Now watch the last home games of the season played in a largely empty Angel stadium.
Yep. Minimum ticket prices likely in the $1 range or “you pay me to go” range.
Moar Paris/Adams
Personally, not a big fan of the PC world of PR…. The canned “we are aware of the situation” BS is a huge waste of everyone’s time and efforts. I must admit, I like the “F you media” approach Arte has going on.
Besides, the less we know as fans of this team, the better. Because there is a reason why he doesn’t have a normal relationship with the media, there is a reason why Sammy the Hat Monger is an evil villain. My guess, if we knew everything that “goes on”, or more likely “doesn’t go on”, even we would be surprised. Give Arte credit, he’s successfully shielded out the world from his inapt ownership. trAdition.
I’ll say again. One of the most dysfunctional, poorly run franchise in professional sports.
The Daniel Snyder of MLB.
FreeFind ShoheiFreeFind StassiThe Angel organization must’ve plowed Murphy’s wife or something because what could go wrong has gone totally wrong this season. Wow.
Thank for God for MMA.
Never turning September baseball off, too many good storylines to come
I always said they should relocate to the town of Murphys and change team name to Law
Murphys Law
“Anything that can go wrong will go wrong “
#cursed
I don’t believe in sports curses, but….. this is incredible.
the rumor is Shohei will be at the press conference. I doubt it but that’s the rumor
Zoom call from a local izakaya in Tokyo, Japan?
Yes, and hopefully he’s totally ripped and let’s the vitriol fly. No better way to end this disaster of a season.
2023 has been a ‘Hindenburg’ of a campaign.
As have the previous 8
This one feels much worse because this team, for a moment, had good chemistry and enough talent & depth to be a playoff team – until every damn wheel fell off.
That’s better than expected, better than most years.
https://youtu.be/SJqqSuYRhP8?si=hR39w2murRNCbUKk
Same with 22 before the 14 game losing streak. Same with 21 at the start of the season. Etc. etc.
If we go 7-7 we will equal our 2001 season record.
That would be refreshing. Having lived in those Tokyo izakayas, led to some relaxed conversations with my Japanese counterparts.
I had many similar experiences at Japanese spots when I was an expat in the Hongqiao district of Shanghai a decade ago.
Fun times.
Nice, almost landed another expat job in Hong Kong, only to turn one down in Shanghai as I had recently married and knew I would be taking sand to the beach. I crave for an expat job again…great experience
Thank you Shohei for the numerous contributions while an Angel. You played with heart and an unyielding determination that set you apart from your teammates and the majority of MLB. I wish you and your family the very best in all that life has to offer.
With that said….
He’s gone and it’s time for everyone to say their goodbyes and move on. All this nonsense about how he left the team is a fools errand. Who cares. The shit we gnash teeth over around here doesn’t matter or make a difference.
3…2…1…let the hate flow.
Turn the page, we need the Scioscia gif, DD.
Imgur don’t work on mobile.
Aye, turn the page Mikey.
Totally concur. My lasting impression is that we got to witness the greatest player of all-time during his prime. Too bad the team mostly sucked.
All this narrative of the Angels not being able to do anything with the 2 best players in baseball the last 6 years.
Fletcher sums it up the best:
What unbelievable luck indeed!
Indeed. They never truly played together for an extended period. An unfortunate oddity of history.
Not one single season where we saw these two together at full strength, playing the entire season.
Bad luck? Curse? Burial grounds? Conspiracy? The possibilities are endless!!
The whole thing blows. That’s for sure.
Yes, because playing 7 exhibition games is the same as playing 162 games in a professional league.
Was there a question in there to which yes/no were the possible answers?
You guys are all aware that had we traded Ohtani – he would have hit another 30 homers and won 10 games after the trade
Angels gonna Angel
CURSES ARE ALIVE AND WELL
And that would’ve been fine by me. This entire organization and team needs to be rebuilt from the ground up
And then we would have gotten a bunch of Will Wilson/ jahmai Jones/ Taylor Lindsey types with all the picks
Dude – we’re cursed no matter how it’s sliced
Ha! I hope you’re wrong but suspect you are right.
