The boys are back in town for a week but the schedule is far from easy. The Angels have won only one series this month, 2-1 vs. the Giants, and I wouldn’t expect that to change this weekend against Tampa Bay.
The Reds are a 50/50 proposition. After being the darlings of the early summer, the wheels have fallen off the Reds wagon of late. That said, I want to see this Elly de la Cruz kid with my own eyes. I love me some speed.
One young phenom we won’t see this homestand is the Rays Wander Franco, who is under a pretty serious investigation.
But don’t worry, Franco. Roid freak and friend of notorious drug dealers David Ortiz has reached out to him and offered some help. I’m sure Ortiz has the type of help that can make problems go away permanently.
As usual, the issue with the Angels has been pitching. While youngsters like Patrick Sandoval, Reid Detmers, and Jaime Barria were expected to take a step forward this year that has not been the case.
It is a little unfair to Detmers to have him as the picture in that tweet, or whatever X is calling them. After all, he was the brightest star in the Angels lone win in Arlington.
In the already looking to next year department, 2023 first round pick Nolan Schaneul is off to a great start in AA.
He hasn’t shown a ton of pop, but he did park an opposite field home run last week.
Yes, I’m linking Rocket City Trash Pandas because there’s not much to link about the major league team.
The Little League World Series is underway. At this age I feel a little sorry for the parents of kids who have been playing Little League for six months or so. Already burned through all their vacation days and budgets by now. But I love watching the little dudes play.
Sorry for the short links this week. To say work is chaotic right now would be an understatement. Please link what I missed below and enjoy your weekend.
Good start for Friday. The Reds just walked off the Blue Jays.
Probably already mentioned, but Wallach DFA’d for O’Hoppe.
Rendon(e) placed on the 60-day IL. Good riddance.
So all he did is foul the ball off his leg. He’s such a loser. They just need to move on.
Internal bleeding. Seeing one of best doctors in SoCal. Don’t blame him for following doctor advice.
will they play scorpions “rock you like a hurricane” tonight at the stadium?
Wind beneath my Wings…
Lots of Earth WIND and fire

I am a fan of the Reds, Brewers and A’s for the weekend. Don’t really care what MFYankees, Red Sux, Mariners, or Arsstros do.
Kiyo, we are 1000000000% Astro fans this weekend haha
Reds and Astros gotta pull off sweeps. We need it as badly as we need water
You are right. Getting Mariners and Blue Jays to drop off is the shortest path. Got ‘ya.
Shortest path as well as the only path.
Halos are giving us one final burst of hopium with O’Hoppe, Schanuel and Trout.
I hear Mike Trout will be the only player at Angel stadium on Sunday with a Kite and a Key
Franklin’s experiment demonstrated the connection between lightning and electricity. To dispel another myth, Franklin’s kite was not struck by lightning. If it had been, he probably would have been electrocuted, experts say. Instead, the kite picked up the ambient electrical charge from the storm.
I would not be too surprised if Mike Trout replaced Jim Cantore on Weather Channel special report on Sunday.
Franklin was out there flying a kite to pick up on chicks.
chicks dig the long strings
Didn’t I mention previously how amazed I am about the educational value of CtPG?
This is when G-String were invented!
And Rally Thongs.
I hear Ben really got around…oh baby!!
Just realized it’s two games tomorrow… with tomorrow being a Saturday. Oh no…
So we need to win today!
are you new?
😀
Hurricane Hillary isn’t the only one making its way to Anaheim. Hurricane Mike soon …
C OHoppe
1B Schanuel
2B Drury
SS Neto
3B Moose
LF Moniak/Grichuk
CF Trout
RF Renfroe
DH Ohtani

Overreaction to the storm?
Not really. My data shows the heaviest rain could be hit or miss along the coast. But the wind will be the factor and drove management’s decision
No decision on Monday yet
There wiil be reps at the stadium Sunday for those who show up unknowingly and ultimately needing refunds
amphibious Landing craft in the parking lot?
Again, I hope no serious damage to infrastructure and no casualties in SoCal. I am sure Padres, Doyers, and Angels along with MLB will monitor the weather and its effects on the area right though Sunday.
As someone who experienced both significant typhoon and earthquake, it would be great if we can laugh about it later. But for those who declared that there was no way higher than 30 feet tidal wave would hit Fukushima Daiichi, they would regret for the rest of their lives (some of them took their own lives for atonement). It is so much better to overworry than underworry.
Fortunately The water temp from mid Baja north is not conducive to sustaining the storm at hurricane levels. And my experience here it will usually make landfall before reaching the US and significantly lose strength. However they are sticking with prediction of a moderate to heavy tropical storm which features winds of 50 to 75 mph. But the storm path is so narrow, if it shifts to the east then yes, the LA basin will be affected minimally. Stay tuned!
The last storm of this nature was a cat 1 in 1939 that nearly washed Long Beach off the map. The Santa Ana river flooded then and killed many in the area that the big A now stands. You know, that river that is just past the fence at the parking lot by the Big A?
you mean that bike path with a large swath of sand in the middle? i thought thats for homeless camping and crack tents
Any of them dumb enough to still be living or hiding in there are not going to survive this
Humor aside…
6′ 4 1B leading off.
He must be fast!
I’m worried, as is Hatcher, that Thames will make Schanny change his swing angle
We will find out by the first pitch whether he will swing or not.
For anyone who has tickets to Sunday’s game, your ticket will be honored for game 1 of the doubleheader tomorrow. Good news because we will get to see our ace, Chase Silseth !
“Chase Silseth will start Game 1 and Patrick Sandoval will start Game 2 tomorrow.”

Oh my gawd, this is such a desperate move to show Ohtani the organization is serious about winning. I hope it doesn’t screw the kid up too much.
Very smart move. Hopefully SoCal can get away with no serious damage or casualties.
One of the few times I’ve actually been right this season. Still waiting on Trout to return on 8/11 😛
You might consider buying powerball ticket, sir. It is worth $264MM tomorrow. 😉
Hey, media. A HURRICANE IS NOT HITTING SO CAL. It will be a tropical storm or depression by the time it makes land. Stop the fearmongering.
Hahahahahahahaha
I’m referring to the label of “hurricane” and not questioning the decision at all. I fully expected the game to be rained out.
I doubt they get both games in on Saturday.
Is there a forecast I’m not seeing? Anaheim shows a 7% chance of rain at 9pm Saturday night.
This site don’t lie.
Click on 10 day for a detailed graph.

I studied to be a meteorologist.
personally I think it will not be nearly what they are warning of rain wise.
It should shift too far east for the LA basin to get max effect.
But keep in mind, the mountains WILL get hit and come down the Santa Ana and Gabriel.
The wind and ++surf will be true for sure
I wish someone could interview resident Angels meteorologist Trout for his opinion. I would not be surprised Angels side reporter to ask him of his expert opinion during today’s game.
Ocean temps, dryer air, wind shear, land interaction all will take away its energy.
Plus, heading toward the Big A it have another energy decrease. Less wind from an inevitable torn oblique muscle.
Fear mongering, obfuscations and false narrative building is their ONLY function.
Go play in the river bed and see what happens..
Double header tomorrow due to the ::checks notes:: hurricane hitting SoCal on Sunday.
I predict Silseth to start for the first game and Canning to start for the second with Sandoval/Barria as middle relievers. Who are they going to call from SLC for extra player that they can add tomorrow?
It is slightly unfair for the Rays to call up someone from their 3A team, wherever they are playing today. But, I guess that is called home advantage.
You are correct, sir. Silseth for the 1st and Sandy for the 2nd game
Angels might not be a well-run organization, but dammit we are incredibly entertaining.
Never a dull moment
😂😂😂😂😂😂.
Nolan and Logan !!
Apple is now wondering why they did not include today’s game for their Friday Night MLB baseball. Instead, they have to broadcast MFYankees vs Red Sux, which would not be watched even by those die-hard (but now disgusted) fans.
Well, we did say a lot of times that well-run organizations have a successful “next man up” philosophy – Rays, Dodgers, Cheaters, etc.
Perry is just taking it into an extreme level.
Well if he was really extreme he’d be bringing up players from the El Segundo Little league after they get eliminated.
Angels don’t have quality players in the Minors, such as the El Segundo Little League players
any chance we can subtly swap Squid for the El Segundo Little League team’s backup SS ?
El Segundo coach says, “Absolutely not!”
😆 That kid from Tennessee is pretty good, too.
Man I remember seeing the story about Rendon not liking baseball years ago and not thinking too much of it. Like its perfectly fine for dudes to have other interest. But now it feels like such a red flag that the Angels ignored.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2133276-nats-anthony-rendon-doesnt-watch-baseball-because-its-too-long-and-boring#:~:text=In%20an%20unexpected%20admission%2C%20Rendon,It's%20too%20long%20and%20boring.%E2%80%9D
In an unexpected admission, Rendon told the reporter he never watched the All-Star game as a kid and rarely watches the sport in general.
“I don’t watch baseball,” Rendon said. “It’s too long and boring.”
It all make sense now.
Seemed to like it wearing a Nats jersey.
He loves watching a game from the dugout.
With the smiles on his face, this must be his Happy Place.
Lineup is out!
Schanuel is leading off! He’s getting the Moniak and Neto Treatment
Logan also back!!!!!
DO OR DIE NOW FOLKS!!!!
Schanuel
Ohtani
Drury
Moose
O’Hoppe
Moniak
Renfroe
Rengifo
Grichuk
Put Trout in there and it is interesting.
Trout and Neto is even a little more interesting.
Don’t tempt us with a good time !!
We’re already dead but looking forward to watching Nolan play.
Slightly disappointed that Trout is not there yet. He must have still lingering pain.
Nevin lied to Jeff Fletcher regarding Logan O’Hoppe, who must be on cloud 9 to be back in Anaheim. Tonight’s game is now a must see TV, and even if this were Apple TV+ Friday game I would have paid to watch it.
That’s quite a challenge – thought leading off would be something they’d experiment with down the line, but not on day one. He wasn’t leading off in the minors.
Welp, Nolan, here you go.
It’s 12 game streak time!!! this is an actual lineup. I just pray that Thames and Phil let Schanuel be himself. He is patient.. he controls the strike zone and he makes defensive positioning aware contact. I’m terrified they will have him swinging at the first pitch early and often.
Lineup of destiny. This is where our origin story begins.
I’ll say this for Perry – at least he’s not bringing up retreads (Walsh), and he’s actually going for those w/ hope and promise.
Just crossing my fingers those hopes are not dashed quite fast
The more I read about Hurricane Hilary, the more I would be concerned if I were living in Orange County and whole LA area. I am certain the stores are busy with people buying water, cans of ready food, batteries (those high capacity battery source was really handy to recharge smart phones when we had week long wild fire related power outage in Oregon), and, of course, toilet papers. For those of you who live in possible path for this potentially devastating hurricane, please be careful out there. MLB games are not that important.
I’m not sure from current forecasts if its an OC/LA thing. Current forecast as of Friday afternoon is “periods of rain” on Sunday and its over Monday morning with sun to start the week.
This is, of course, one of many computer generated predictions, but gotta admit this model does not look good.
Severe flooding. Arte’s Arc…….you have room for only the 40-man roster and 3 FO people…whos on it?
I’m seeing a possible 3-6 inches of rain with wind and flash flood warnings for much of SOCAL. I was driving to AZ this morning and canceled, thinking the trip home might be bad. I’m sure it will fall somewhere in between your forecast and mine,
MLB teams are now embracing 6 man rotation at least part of time during a long season.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/08/mariners-planning-to-use-a-six-man-rotation.html
Preemptive Ohtani signing mive
Perry definitely giving off major YOLO vibes with his moves these last two months. I mean, no comment on whether good or bad, just definitely seems like do or die. Curious what his future will be next year. I guess a better question will be what Arte will be up to…
