Angels lose 6-2

The Angels had a chance to win a series against a team with a winning record tonight. The search for said win continues.

Patrick Sandoval had a rough start and the Halos were down three before even stepping into the batter’s box.

Jared Walsh put the Angels on the board with a single in the fourth. It was great to see him back.

Sandoval didn’t surrender another run but was pulled with two outs and runners on the corners in the fifth inning. Zach Weiss got the third out to keep it 3-1.

That wouldn’t last long as Joey Gallo led off the sixth with a solo shot off Weiss.

Shohei Ohtani got that run back with a 414 foot bomb in the home half of the sixth.

Andrew Wantz continued his Ryan Tepera imitation, serving up 2 runs

Those were the final runs scored in the ballgame. 6-2 Twins.

Ohtani on the hill tomorrow.

I just looked up MLB schedule for tomorrow. Angels starting pitcher is TBD (Red Sox starting pitcher is Houck who was demolished by Mariners at his last outing). It is Silseth’s turn, but Barria may be starting? Canning is listed as starting pitcher for Tuesday.

SOX playing well. Was watching the playing the Padres off and on last night and they are getting production from lesser names than our lineup but winning. But maybe more about the Padres, huge disappointments.

Man the Angels cleansed out almost have their bullpen. But unfortunately They recycled their Poup.

Davidson would have been sent down if he had options. I don’t know Jacob Webb except that he was DFA’d from Braves and Angels signed him to minor league contract.

Reyes Moranta was discussed yesterday.

Loup, though expected, scares me dearly. Please use him only when we have 10+ run lead especially with Brett Phillips no longer available. (I am still hoping that he remains with Angels somehow).

I’m fine going with Loup if they are down by 7 in the 8th inning.

Davidson is no worse than anyone outside of Moore and Estevez. I would not want Moranta anywhere near the MLB roster. Typical Minasian underachieving again.

Really? if his fastball is truly back in the 94-96 mph range then this potentially a big pickup for us.

My guess is all 3 will see action today, trAdition. Whoever (bullpen) we call up immediately pitches and our starters don’t get out of the 5th….hoping Shohei bucks that trAdition today and goes 7+.

Just like when they brought Herget into an inning with the game on the line and multiple runners on base.

The AI program is ready for today’s game:
1. Find highest leverage situation today.
2. Insert Loup.

This “failing as a ball club” operation can easily be done by AI.

Starting lineup is out:

Moniak LF
Trout CF
Ohtani DH
Renfroe RF
Walsh 1B
Urshela 3B
Rengifo 2B
Wallach C
Neto SS

I will be out for a while to buy a few Lotto tickets today. See you soon. Go Halos.

Good thing I bought Omamori (Japanese version of Juju) at a local Buddhist temple. 😉 . Oh, I forgot, no religion.

By the way, if I win the Powerball (currently at $179 mil), should I donate that to the GoFund me site to retain Shohei for at least another year? I could use that as tax deduction, right?

In lieu of changing things up to alter the sinister pattern, I predict todays lineup before it comes out:

Moniak LF/Trout CF/Ohtani DH/Renfroe RF/Walsh 1B/Urshela 3B/Rengifo 2B/Wallach C/Neto SS.

Any other suggestion?

I would have Wallach hit fourth and have Renfroe/Walsh/Urshela/Rengifo slide down one spot since Wallach has been hitting better than Renfroe this past week.

Good thing you’re just a ghost GG cuz that comment right there is nowhere near the real world. You must be using the same sources 2002 uses to post here.

For truth to power purposes here’s reality :

Wallach (last 5 games) .214/.214/.429
Renfroe (last 5 games) .353/389/.353

Even worse for Wallach is in his last 4 games he’s 0 for 9 with 8 strikeouts. Thaiss hasn’t done much better in his last 4 . He’s 1 for 8 with 5 strikeouts

Our Catchers new found superpowers are finally wearing off. Now they’re just below average MLB defensive backstops who cant hit.

As the Romans used to say, Mea Culpa. I was relying on my memory as I was too GA to verify by looking up the actual stats.

I expected big things in his return, but Walsh had a productive out to plate the Halos’ first run of the game, so there was that.

It’s a weird picture because when someone has severe anxiety, and panic attacks, the world can sometimes feel like he or she is looking through a fish eye with weird focus and colors.

Last 5 Angels series
Games 1/2/3
Rangers: W/L/L
Astros: W/L/L
Guardians: W/L/L
Orioles: W/L/L
Twins: W/L/?

This will be the most impressive thing ever if they lose again today.

It is an interesting human trait to look for a pattern, kinda like baseball jinx. How about positive pattern: We have NOT been swept in series and NOT been shut out. Both Tampa Bay and Baltimore have been shut out twice each.

The Angels developed this unfortunate pattern of winning the first game of a series only to lose the next two about three decades after the unrelated release of Belgian techno anthem “Pump Up the Jam.”

Law of average says only one or two of these factors will occur today thereby increasing Angels chance of winning today. Of course, I am purposefully (and perhaps foolishly) ignoring trAdition.

If this team can get through May at .500 that will be an accomplishment in its own right. They will have a legitimate shot at a wildcard if they can just hover around .500 and then get hot.

But But Phillip said that Walsh is a good bunter .

Maybe back when he was at Georgia?

Update: I looked it up Walsh had exactly ZERO sacrifice bunts in college. He did, however, have a total of 5 bunts in the Minors with the last one being 6 years ago for the AA Mobile Bay Bears. But Phillip knows best.

Seeing that Davidson and Jesse Chavez were acquired from Braves with Raisel Iglesias to Atlanta, and now Chavez back in Braves uniform doing decent middle inning relief and Raisel only having one blown save, would you characterize this trade as extreme, moderate, or slight failure (or no comments until season over)?

Lets see. We lost by 4 runs tonight and we had 4 squanders ( Baserunners that did not score that were either on second base or third base with no outs and/or third base with one out and did not score) And you wonder why we lost

Is it only me that notice while Angels have been at an elite level blowing many runner on third less than two outs and runners on 1st and 2nd base with no out opportunities, the other teams always do the right things (hitting sacrifice fly, performing successful safety bunt, etc) and manage to score runs on us with ease?

Tomorrow’s game starts at 1:07 pm west coast time. It is Shohei Sunday, which always provided extra anticipation that something special will occur when he pitched for Angels his first year. He halted that horrendous losing streak last summer, so I am confident that he will halt this vicious cycle of losing the first game and losing second and third of a series.
