The Oakland Athletics’ Mason Miller had two sides to him on Tuesday night. One face was a fireballer who couldn’t command the zone and the other was a potential threat to the Angels for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, the former Miller showed up in the first inning and the Angels were able to push enough guys over home plate to take home the victory.
Despite his overwhelming velocity, the Angels offense drilled the ball to all fields, and it wouldn’t have been surprising to anyone at all if he didn’t pitch past the second inning. After Brandon Drury, Luis Rengifo, and Gio Urshela combined to put up 4 runs all with two outs, the game was already won.
This didn’t mean the A’s wouldn’t put up a fight though. Griffin Canning would battle to finish out the fifth and surrendered 3 runs himself before being pulled for an effective bullpen (even a broken clock, right?).
A key insurance run from Taylor Ward and the night would be closed out safely and mostly without fuss. Let’s keep puttin’ the hurt on the basement dwellers just like we do on Gubi Tuesdays.
First victory for Griff since 2021.
Hopefully he improves start over start.
Soooo…. can I like this win? Yes? No? Should I look for something to be angry about. Neto? No? Not allowed? Ohtani? No?
Canning. I gotta say, sure he’s still a little soft, can’t go more than 5 innings yet, but his ERA+ and WHIP are looking fairly strong for a back end guy. Not fantastic, but man, this “roll with Tucky D and Griff” idea could have been MUCH MUCH worse. Thaiss…. ung. It’s a little weird seeing Rengifo be the primary “rest a guy” OF. On the other hand all you poons have only had to see 8 ABs from Phillips. Rengifo better start hitting. Drury is coming alive, they already said Neto’s got SS till he crashes it, Urshela is solid…. I think we can all see who may lose a seat when Walsh is ready to come back, and it’s not just Lamb. Mike Moore? You work here? Cool. Estevez. Am I still supposed to hate that guy?
Anybody feel like the right thing to do is offer to let the A’ss crash on our couch a few weeks next year? My Gah, the A’ss fans…. they keep talking about “ALL” the things that have to get done in Vegas and in Carson City and to the LV Ball Park for the A’ss to play there ASAP. But these poor friggin CaliHostages have no clue that that type of stuff actually gets legislated and then built in less than 20 years in other states. I saw this poor guy from Oakland saying how this project is actually years behind Howard Terminal and it could take years to get through all this and then a sports guy from LV was like “huh? Why?”. It’s sad. The A’ss will not be welcome in Oakland’s Possum Kingdom next year.
Of course it could be worse. We see it every time the Cow tipping Jose Suarez takes the mound.
A’s new stadium will be open in about 3 years or so. It is not behind the Howard Terminal project. The Howard project is little more than some artist renderings.
In looking at the casino projects over the years it’s clear that Las Vegas is “organized” differently in regards to building timeframes. The right people will be taken care of and the obstacles to building will be smoothed over.
Canning looked good! Happy to see that.
Indeed
The Angels are now responsible for 40% of all of the A’s wins this year.
Winning this game was obviously critical and we have no excuses with Sandoval and Shohei going in the next two.
Other than TrAdition?
Was hoping to see Griffen complete 6, but I agree with the decision to pull him after 5+ on 88 pitches. As I said elsewhere, he was ripe.
Hopefully Sandoval can avoid throwing 40 pitches in the 1st inning tomorrow and spare the bullpen a bit.
Warren felt little somethin’ throwing catch today so Silky Silseth will be in the pen tomorrow.
Not The Glitch?
nope.I guess they need another long man
Back to .500 again
Yes. We. Can!
whoo-hoo
I would take issue with Canning surrendering 3 runs and “effective bullpen”. The pen was fine once we got past Loup but he’s still struggling
Yep. Aaron is avoiding Nevin n PTP like it’s office space…. the consultants are gonna want to meet with him soon and ask him what exactly he does here. He’s over six innings now and still looks shaky. My guess is they get him up to 8 IP and if he still pitches like a scared bitch he may morph into Rosenburg. Honestly he’s a fairly minor adjustment away from being effective so I hope he figures it out, but he’s on the clock.
His sequence against RHB Jesus Aguilar was outstanding tonight. I don’t understand why he cant repeat that against all of the batters he faces. Most other times this season hes looked timid and weak out there.
Loup looks like he’s throwing “standing up” compared to when he was on the Mets. Usually that means he’s not stepping as far down the mound as he used to. This will flatten out his sinker, which technology shows has happened. It also gives hitter’s a split second more time to track his sinker out the hand. This will make him a bitch who is easier to hit.
I am no scientist, and the problem is probably more than just this. But he looks better than he did game 1, not just results but his pitching…. but still not good. Not hopeless though.
Maybe his widened girth is no longer being supported by those supple haunches that have carried his unhittable pitches towards the plate for so long now.
Honestly, that’s kind of what I wondered. He’s never been an “athlete”. Is his stallion like ass or supple hips tightening up? Could simply MOAR STRETCHES actually help? And less beers.
LTBU!
Never gets old after a W……
