Angels win Daycap and take series against Seattle

Angels 4 Mariners 3

O’Hopes were high in the first inning when Trout and Ohtani drew back to back one out walks. Enter Renfroe and Drury who dashed those hopes with back to back K’s – Renfroe looking. Listen, Renfroe will be fine but is not and really has never been a consistent player. He can smash, but let’s not assume that will happen on a regular basis.

Thankfully, rookie of the year and catcher extraordinaire (sorry Adley) came to the plate in the top of the 2nd with Urshela on base thanks a single. O’Hoppe did not disappoint and smashed a 2-run bomb to put the Angels on the board.

Trout and Ohtani again drew back to back walk in the 6th, this time with no outs. A wild pitch moved them forward. Guess what Renfroe did this time? K! Dude come one, can’t even hit a sac fly?? And Drury? K! Lamb followed with a fly out and TroutSho were stranded again.

Shohei Ohtani struggled a bit on the mound, hitting two batters for the first time in a game ever (both came in the same inning). The cooler weather may have affected his command early but it definitely improved his last few innings. Ohtani’s final line was 6 IP, 8K, 1 ER, 111 pitches. Ohtani struck out 5 of the last 7 batters he faced and finished off his outing by striking out the side in the 6th.

Mike Trout’s RBI infield hit in the 7th was somehow only the 3rd hit of the game for the Angels. Ohtani put the Angels up 4-1 with an RBI single of his own that scored Taylor Ward. Up until those two RBIs, the Angels had been 0 for 7 with 5Ks and RISP

Jimmy Herget Phil Nevin did his best to try and ruin the lead by pulling Matt Moore who had been doing just fine in favor of Jimmy the Glitch Herget who proceeded to give up back to back hits and 2 runs. Herget was saved by Eugenio Suarez who got hung up between 1st and 2nd for the 3rd out.

Thankfully, the Angels held on and pulled out a narrow victory. Next up, rest day and home opener of Friday against the Jays!

Ohtani’s final line was 6 IP, 8K, 1 ER, 111 pitches

That sounds like a CY candidate performance to me, and it was an ‘off day’ for Ohtani. Early days, but 18K in 12 innings pitched, with an ERA of .75 is pretty good.

I’m an extremely longtime lurker from the HH days who finally decided to create an account here. I appreciate having a platform for Angels fans like me to celebrate, vent, and overanalyze every step of this organization which I’ve been doing since the 70s. Thanks and I look forward to contributing!

Hopefully with a day off and on Friday starting home cooking the team will be taking the next 2 series, it will fall to Sandy, Andy, Dets, all capable pitchers that are going to take us to the promise of 163+ games in the calendar month of October 🎃

Why look so far ahead Grandpa ? What’s the point? Haven’t you ever heard the saying “Just take em one game at a time.” There is a reason that players and managers all say that. It is because it works.

Please stop trying to predict results of series that are a week away. Just enjoy the moment.

Have a nice day.

It works for this team. The group that wants to point out that Fletcher-Renfroe-Drury and Rengifo are not performing on que will see that those are the current cold, so maybe red is the appropriate color for the shirts

Glad we held on.

Drury seems like he’s pressing. At a minimum he shouldn’t be hitting 5th but–Monday Morning QB here–Fletcher being a bat-on-ball guy would have been ideal in some of those innings where putting the ball in play likely scores Trout from 3rd. Instead it was strike out city.

MLB tv much improved this year —-

watching the Bees again, Adell just HR’d, then Padlo and Moniak made out on the bases.
cool analytics of pitchers and every Angel HR
better Zen commercials especially showing Tempe Diablo

if 66ers and Panda games are shown too, I’ll be watching a bunch more baseball this summer

MLB putting MiLB games up was actually smart. Anything that can get the hype train rolling on some prospects long before they show up in the MLB is a healthy thing. If the MLB site started dedicating a 600PPI box on their landing page for “ZOMZ! Look what this minor leaguer did tonight!” highlights, even better.

Arrrrr Gnarrrrr! We won. But it was just a semi-win. It wasn’t engorged with the juices of victory! I don’t count these wins. I hate mediocrity. I told you guys that the bullpen would be a problem. I said that from day one. remember? Pretty cool huh? Ohtani is never going to let us pay him half a billion dollars to turn 40 on our roster if we don’t really “show him something”. Then Mark at the Santa Ana Rotary Club will bring up Ohtani leaving every month and make me feel small. I AM NOT SMALL!

I also saw Phillips again today. It made me cry like when I get reminded of The Nam. Did I fight in Vietnam? No. But I talk like I did. And I saw Platoon like 40 times.

For reelzies though. It’s good to see Fletcher and Rengifo trying to make it easy for Nevin in June when the brass decide to bring Soto or Neto up.

I don’t consider it a win unless it’s against the 76 Reds. I hate mediocrity. And yogurt. And pizza by the slice. ENTIRE PIZZAS PLEASE! PLUS BEN JOYCE! I am going to love him till he has a bad inning, then I am going to turn on him like a weather vain with a huge bronze cock on it!

ABQ has a good ring too it. Hopefully it sticks, but these things can be tricky. Someone gave Saurez the nickname of Sicario last night around the 3rd inning. That name is bad a$$, but you have to earn it.

2 out of 3 against a playoff caliber team is always good news.

A 4-2 road trip to start the season. More Cowbell indeed.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Rendon back on the field. This team is solid and deep. The starting pitching is above average, but even Mr. Magoo can see that the bullpen is chink in the armour. I’d consider Joyce and/or a trade now to bolster this group.
