The Detroit Tigers signed Michael Lorenzen. Oh well! The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Noah Syndergaard. Oh well! Happy birthday Taylor Ward!
The Dodgers traded with the Rays for J.P. Feyereisen in exchange for minor league right hander Jeff Belge. Feyereisen just had surgery and won’t be playing until sometime in late August 2023. The Toronto Blue Jays signed Kevin Kiermaier for one year at $9 Million. The Detroit Tigers signed Matt Boyd for one year. He gets $10 Million plus a potential $1 Million in performance bonuses.
The Yankees hired Art Warren and Jake Bauers to minor league deals. The Brewers acquired infielder Owen Miller from the Guardians in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. Jon Heyman says Kenley Jansen got a deal with the Red Sox for two years at $32 Million. There is some kind of weird clause about donating an amount not to exceed 1% to charity.
Lance Lynn and Nathan Eovaldi will both pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

Unbelievable isn’t it.
The Dodgers get Thor who’s healthier and better battle tested for half of what the 75 yr old rich guy and Alex Anthopolous’s former errand boy paid him last year. What a damm crying ass shame…..
Also I can’t wait for the total collapse of the starting rotation just as the bullpen was supposed to be impenetrable (but 2 months later turned into our Maginot Line in reference to my incredible WW2 history expertise.). Hey it’s the 80%ers again whaddya expect…..LOL!!! They’re always f**king wrong……PS Tony LaRussa’s available again!
😆 😂 😎 💪 💪 💪
Still not a thing. You are at a party alone sad clown.
See, the unique minds that you seem to think you are akin to had a lot of things going for them that you just don’t. In this case, the major missing component is thoughts. Ideas that they hashed out using data and experience and testing, which challenged the standard way of doing things, which they went out and tried and low and behold they worked.
It’s these thoughts and ideas that we’ve all been desperately waiting to see in your IIWPM.
Without some way for us sheeple to actually see what it is you have apparently figured out we can’t see you for a mad genius. Instead your just the loud kid in the van with a 60 IQ that keeps demanding Reese’s (but you yell REE SEEES) while wearing the last peanut butter cup he was given on his Dinosaurs Rock t-shirt. The grown ups can’t stop you from trying to touch your cousin inappropriately, and everyone will eventually feel a little guilty when they are secretly glad that you tipped head first into a full bucket and drowned instead of growing into your monkey strength.
Turns out there really are kids who manage that.
Look Tootie, you were special after all. Jokernicus the Astromaster.
I think the only thing you missed was the mismatched garanimal clothing 😂
Now back to our regular programming…
Forget another housing crash, we need an MLB contract/payroll crash. This is ridiculous and just makes it difficult as hell for all but 3-5 teams.
Nah man. All the teams can sign these contracts if they want cause billionaires. The Indians and Brewers just develop stars for other teams and then trade them away because of greed and stupidz.
Don’t forget the AAAA’s
LOL, I made a joke recently about “reports will surface that we were outbid on Correa”. I was on the right track, but actually apparently we were “in” on Bassitt…
Sure they were
Honestly, with these insane contracts being handed out, what is Ohtani gonna command?
45-50 4 10-12yrs 🙃
I predict 10/525
So much that he should go scuttle some other organization. We’ve already done that act. I don’t even care what we get in return as much as I want to avoid a 40M AAV over many many years.
I 110% agree. Please PLEASE let him be traded at the all star break
Hell, sign me Trey Mancini and trade him now for some pitching.
For Ohtani?
$40M a year X 8 and the soon to be sovereign nation of Puerto Rico.
I shall offer Shohei the hand of a horse faced princes, The Low Countries, a shard of the hand soap of Christ, twelve fine geldings and six buckets of ducats.
He will accept this generous offer or I shall invade him through the nether regions and across the fruity plains.
I fart in your general direction

No, I don’t think we wanted to pay him $32mil per season for any length, let alone 6 yrs
Agree….this seems to be the going rate if you want to play in the deep end of the free agent pool. Lots of Baby Ruth’s in the water you want to stay away from.
But if you are really champiham you eat lots of turds and a couple candy bars and just win baby. It should be all that matters. Eat shit and…. lose to the Astros.
Yes, so either we need to keep our Ace or the farm better start creating aces. If not, 70 win seasons will become the norm.
How about $27 million as season? Is that much more reasonable?
Proof that the Yanks want to win and we …
I was thinking, if I have like 9M to spend and depth is where my heart beats now, where would I spend it? Who are some good players to sign for a cheap MLB contract or an expensive MiLB contract with a ST invite? Where would I spread this 9M around?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you my “guys we haven’t mentioned yet who are down in the barrel but could help us and will be cheap” list. With bref links…..
At catcher: Curt Casali. O’Hoppe onto my train of thought here. If Stassi remains 2022 Stassi (which I don’t think happens, but still…) and O’Hoppe isn’t ready is Chad Wallach what you want? He is a fairly consistent high 80s OPS+ hitter. He’s fine behind the dish. He can even slip over to 1B if needed and not completely melt.
Honorable mention: Roberto Perez
1B/2B/OF/DH: Michael Chavis. OK. Look at his splits. He can cover for Walsh against lefties. In an injury pinch he can play 2B and Urshela can play 1B for a few games. He can DH against lefties if needed. He can also be a fairly horrible left fielder if you really need it. He has POWAH.
Horrible mention: Miguel Sano. When you’re so desperate for some pop that you don’t care about fielding and you are willing to give a large desperate man a chance….
Shortstop: Marwin Gonzalez. Yeah. I know. Cheater. Life’s not a comic book from the 1950s. Get over it. He’s sucked ass since the infallible POBO from the Twins signed him. But that ass is largely based on his career year 146 OPS+…. a year that a POBO would surely never sign a FA based upon. But, deep dark secret, he’s actually a very serviceable shortstop. He can also play every position accept catcher without a huge defensive deficit. Can he outhit Squid? Yes. Barely. And I think he may be able to uptick into the 80 OPS+ area with some luck.
Horrible mention: Andrew Velazquez. I just don’t think most of us grasp the value this guy could have. If he gets 10 more hits and 20 more BB per 320 ABs and we got stuck with him at SS for most of a season we’d have had a gold glove shortstop with 40SB, a .335 meh OPS and 18 home runs. He would have been almost a 4 WAR player… that’s with the same Squid as last year batting .226. This is why your sensitive feelz have been regularly subjected to Squid being more than a forgotten AAA depth piece. He’s actually worth investing some innings in…. even in all these MUST WIN seasons we’ve been having.
Outfielder: Jake Marisnick: I know, he also hurts some of the more sensitive membranes within the CtPG biosphere. Get over it. Look at his defensive stats on bref. Now look at Kevin Keirmair’s. I think we would all agree Kevin has his uses. Well, you’ll love Jake. He’s less injury prone. He’s white. He’s scrappy. Once he’s you’re bulldog you won’t be able to stop gushing.
Horrible mention: Jo Adell/Mickey Moniak…. that’s just life yall.
Pitching….ummmm…. roll the dice…. take your pick. Honestly I think they are gonna see what they have in Silseth/Canning at Tempe.
I’m with you on Casali.
I don’t think Marwin offers anything more than Squid or Soto. In fact, the two kids have upside and Marwin absolutely does not.
Marisnick is an interesting call. I hadn’t considered him. He can definitely cover center, hits better than what Adell and Moniak have shown so far.
Squid is an interesting call. I don’t think he’ll ever walk much because pitchers will come right at him. He’s a guy you throw three straight heaters and get an out. He’d need to be like Fletcher and live and die with his BABIP. And with his speed he could, if he just made contact.
Yeah. Marwin is literally “what you get cause you can’t stop bitching about Squid”. I’m far from loving him, but at least he can actually cover SS. Squid literally needs to get on base another 40-45 times per 600 AB season and he suddenly becomes a very solid guy if he’s just in the 9 hole earning 4 WAR with his glove each year. If Thames can get Adell to a 700+ OPS and Squid to a .330 OBP then he is a hero and champiham sandwich amongst the fridge,
For sure. I’m good with Squid as a late inning replacement/pinch runner guy. And that’s exactly his role right now.
Either Casali or Perez is a no brainer . You’ll get more offense out of Casali but Perez is defense is so damn Premium it might be beneficial to mentor O’Hoppe)
Squid actually hit .274/.293/.466 in his last 75 PAs of the season when he junked attempting to hit from the left side of the plate.Unfortunately he ain’t much of a walker. If we can pare him with a Left handed hitting option like Soto or even Joey Wendle I think this would work and we still have hm for a PR or late inning defensive replacement.
Chavis seems like redundancy for Gio when we have so many other depth needs
We definitely need a backup centerfielder . Marisnick numbers are kind of blah. I’d rather have Gallo or even Tapia to backup the big 3 in the outfield than one of the reformed cheaters .
I’ve been on the Tapia train since my non-tender article. You’ve been driving the Gallo wagon about as long.
Tapia and Squid on the bench = lots of speed for late in games. With the new rules, speed should be a commodity again.
Nah…. I’m not a Gallo guy. Though he’d be OK I guess. We got Renfroe, who I wanted and honestly I’m fine with Adell/Moniak/MLB infielders as depth.
But if we get Jake, Tapia (who I like by I was trying for new names), or Gallo that’s cool too.
I just realized you replied to Cowboy…. yeah! I put on my spectacles.
Poor Jonathan Lucroy…
So you can justify cheating.? I just can’t do Gonzalez. Otherwise, you did some very good homework.
I just don’t give a shit. Not about the cheating that team did. So no. I’m not going to justify it. I just don’t care.
Marwin is interesting. I wonder if he could regain some of his pre-trashcan magic if he was the starter and played 140 games or so. Might be worth a flier at the right price.
I agree re Casali. He would definitely add some needed depth at Catcher in case O’Hoppe is not ready.
Whoa. One of the Centerpieces in the Mookie Betts deal. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/red-sox-designate-jeter-downs-for-assignment.html
This is unbelievable. I’m surprised Bloom still has a job.
He can’t hit. Yet another example of why/how prospects break hearts.
Nor can Connor Wong. And Apparently Alex Verdugo, the other trade participant, is doing his best to forget how.
What a terrible trade for the Chowds.
Thank God we didn’t make the same mistake with Shohei ( At least not yet anyways)
Trouble is, paying Shohei is also a huge mistake.
Maybe for Arte, but who knows how much the new guy will be comfortable spending year to year.
at the time I didn’t think it was that bad. Remember, part of the deal was the dodgers taking on all of David Price’s contract
I believe it was a 50/50 split with Price’s contract with Boston.
Downs back to Doyers eventually and “POOF” back to a stud.
I have been the one holding the banner of not trading stars for prospects for a long, long time here. Nice to see others helping in that….
In fact, I used the BETTS trade as a main piece of evidence, Exhibit A if you will.
I really thought Verdugo would be a stud. Didn’t know much about Downs but the evaluators made it sound like he’d be at least Rengifo/Fletcher level.
Still can’t blame the Sux for trading Betts. Mookie wasn’t going to sign an extension in Boston (and I don’t blame him.)
Because we’ve got a constraining budget I am not too concerned about signing or trading for the next Cahill or Wade. Or Tucker Davidson.
We’ll likely win 75 this coming season and then the Pandas will arrive in 2024, along with a new owner. Then the big fun should start
I’d love for us to get in on Brandon Crawford. I think it’s a great gamble with him being two years away from his best season. Especially considering what we’re going with. He’s showing a -0.7 in Trade value, with $15.3M for 1. Maybe you trade Rengifo and hope Neto is ready in a year. Yes Crawford had a down year, but I’d gamble on him rebounding.
BCraw is a club favorite, they won’t trade him or do him wrong. He’ll be available 2024.
Brad Boxberger is off the board…. another of my deep in the heart pen crushes loves another.
Though I think he’ll be solid next season, which means he is probably packing his gas can and shipping it to Chicago now because I can’t pick pen arms.
And a steal of only $2.8 Million for one year.
Something must be broke on him.
I can feel a trade coming soon.
Jo Adel+++ for a starting pitcher.
Hopefully +++ wont be too much.
Jo Adell for right hander Bag O’Balls.
Bag O’ Donuts might have a better WAR. `;~}}
But, there are still a couple decent F/A pitchers out there.
“I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!!”
Substiture the word pitching for cowbell Y/N?
Yep. Agree.
We need more depth in SP. Beyond the first three spots in the rotation we have alot of question marks…
And if there’s one thing CtPG Guy can’t stand it’s feeling uncertain about anything…. and the Dutch.
Wha? So you think we’re out on Rodon? He finally survived a full season and thus it is thusly obvious any team that loves Champium will sign him for 200M because pieces and stuff.
You’re 5 minutes late …see my F/A comment above.
Kanley does a lot of charity work here in LA.
Odd to have that provision in his contract, but that’s at least $160k per year going to help families in the Boston area.
When I’ve seen this done in the past (non sports related), it was done because the company matched a percentage and it made taxes easier since the donation is listed on the paystubs.
Thanks for that insight.
Good morning Halo faithful!
