The Athletic’s Sam Blum is worth the subscription fee. He’s in the know and definitely all about calling the Angels out on their shortcomings.
For those of you without a subscription, his Twitter is @SamBlum3 and is definitely worth a follow.
I’d like to thank Sam for stopping by to talk all things Angels. I hope you enjoy the interview.
Very cool, Jeff. Thanks for doing that! Sad content, but that’s not our fault!
Glad you liked it.
We have a kindred spirit in Sam. He’s bitter and jaded like most of us regarding Arte’s “Reign of Terror” and Perry’s continual kowtow routine implementing Arte’s plans.
Enjoyable interview Jeff!
Thank you.
Great interview Jeff! How you squeeze it in while at work is a gift
Wow, not super optimistic, which is not a surprise, but I’m always hoping things are better than they appear, which they usually are not.
Thank you.
Thanks.
I’m in the mortgage business so I can fit about 8 hours of stuff into my workday right now.
always enjoyable – nice work Jeff again.
i liked you quizzing Sam on what he knew about how the FO worked and how he responded as seeing it as opaque as the rest of us. ive never paid attention to arte’s buddies in the FO much as they aren’t baseball guys – just Arte’s buddies.
i do see Stoneman around in Tempe daily during ST for years still – i don’t know how much say he has but he’s there. I’m not sure how much input he has or where it goes.
i read Sam too in the Athletic – its amazing how many writers have TA have trimmed from there but glad the Angels still merit a writer. We’ve had good writers in the past there and Sam continues the tradition. He definetly plays a lot more hardball with the franchise than OCR and LAT.
Thanks.
The questions about the executives actually stemmed from Rev. We have a writers chat going and I try to let them get some questions in as well. So I really can’t take full credit for the interviews.
Howdare you question the competency and qualifications of the Angel front office executives.
Don’t you know Our team president is a Hall of Famer? https://www.niashf.org/john-carpino/
Great job, Jeff! Sam definitely pulls no punches and you asked some not so easy questions. Well done!
Thank you.
For those of us that don’t have time to listen, did he weigh in on In N Out vs Five Guys?
I’ve quietly let that one die.
I always thought it should have been In N Out vs Tommy’s as Five Guys came from the DC burbs.
Well that’s no fun.
I’m a Athletic subscrober and read Blum’s articles. Better than the last guy sho split duties with the Dodgers. Enjoy hearing insights about the team from someone who challenges the organization and does not ask softball questions, like a Lodge or a Fletcher. I could have used another 30 minutes, Jeff
Great interview.
14 Left Fielders last year? Knew it was bad but not that bad.
Thank you. Glad you liked it.
I thought Jeff was channeling back to the Navapile when he mentioned the left field revolving door.
This interview was remarkable. It was perhaps the most honest look into a sick and dysfunctional Organization. Sam did not pull punches and I appreciate it. He’s basically confirming what many of us have been thinking. It was some much needed transparency into a non-transparent front office.
His points about no depth within the system, a barren farm and no idea what Kuhl or Carpino do are stunners.
Nice work Jeff. Thank you for this content. It confirmed my decision not to give this team another dollar until I have the chance to evaluate new ownership.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Sam is definitely one of us.
Only he gets paid to report from afar. We do not.
Thanks for the interview.
Hope you enjoyed it.
Hey guys!!
