LA Angels Monday News Crash: Phillies And Astros

The Philadelphia Phillies eliminated the San Diego Padres to advance to the World Series thanks to a Bryce Harper blast. Aaron Judge came up with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and grounded out to end the American League game. Bye bye Yankees.

The Rangers hired Bruce Bochy as their new Manager. The Royals interviewed Rays Bench Coach Matt Quatraro about their managerial vacancy. Both the Royals and Marlins interviewed Phillies third base coach Dusty Wathan for managerial posts. Joe Espada, Skip Schumaker, and Matt Quatraro are said to be the finalists for the Marlins job. The Marlins also interviewed Astros executive Oz Ocampo for Assistant GM.

Here is a compilation of tweets razzing the Yankees for your entertainment.

Viewpoint A:
Wow, the Yankees have made it to the playoffs every season except 4 this century, and they’ve only won 1 championship. What a choke team.

Viewpoint B:
Wow, the Yankees have made it to the playoffs every season except 4 this century. What a model of fielding a competitive team consistently.

It is amazing how easy it is to spin things.
Kind of like in the debates I’ve seen about the MVP race too.

What they do AS A BASEBALL TEAM is amazing.

But their fan base melts down and crawls into fetal position if they ZOMG DONT WIN THE FUGGGIN WORLD.SERIES.

Both my Yankee fan buddies went off the radar after game 2.

This is why we are all here celebrating. Don’t poop on our awesome parade

I’d rather have us being perennial contenders with a choke label than perennial losers that never make the playoffs.

Playoff loses are heart breaking, but constant sucking, uhm, well… sucks.

This wasn’t a post-mortem article about the Yanks, but it very well could be. Oddly enough, some parts remind me about the way the Halos have been run the last decade or so. Except of course, that the Yankees at least make the playoffs.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/the-yankees-are-once-again-being-exposed-by-the-astros-heres-how-organizational-failures-led-them-here/

The Yankees, meanwhile, have stagnated since that 2017 ALCS. Aaron Judge and Luis Severino are the only Yankees to appear in both the 2017 ALCS and 2022 ALCS, and the promising young players that were supposed to form the next core post-Core Four have all since stalled out (Gleyber Torres), gone backwards (Gary Sánchez), or flamed out (Greg Bird and Clint Frazier). When one or two prospects don’t work out, well that’s baseball. When this many don’t work out, there’s something rotten organizationally.

New York’s failure to develop players beyond Judge and Severino has led to a series of trade and free-agent missteps. Joey Gallo was acquired because Frazier busted. Josh Donaldson was imported to play third base because Miguel Andújar stalled out. The Yankees have used three different starting shortstops in three ALCS games because they don’t trust Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who was brought in to play the position when the Yankees determined Torres couldn’t handle it. It’s been mistake on top of mistake.

Traded along with Urshela to the Twins for IKF and Donaldson.

Clint Frazier, whom some pundits were calling “Trout-lite” back then, has now reinvented himself to be Jackson Frazier.

Kind of like Brandon Marsh who that evil trader Dave Dombrowski acquired for his fielding (sure wasn’t for his hitting, otherwise he’d still be here…….Que No?). Marsh is under powered even though he’s a tall rangy 6ft 4in athlete like the next Chris Taylor, but alas he became YET ANOTHER ANGEL’S UTILITY ROLE GUY…….

Well, if you listened to enough MSM broadcasters on Sundau Naught BaseYank when he was a Bomber you’d know he is just earth shatteringly incredibly powerful. Like six atom bombs or four Schwarbers.

Obviously he was just TOO powerful so they had to bury him in a lead lined box in a trench under a large rock under the Mississippi River. For public safety.

The good of mankind takes precedence over titles

Well, not really. F’ mankind.

Yeah, Sanchez has flamed out so badly, I’ve forgotten that he ever existed.

I’ll never forget this arrogant sales
guy I used to know that was convinced in 2017-2018 that Sanchez would have a better career than Trout.

This is pre-frequent injury Trout mind you.

At this point, with the Stanton-ian and Cole-ostmy on long term, very non-team friendly deals, succumbing to fans pressure to re-sign Judge would be a mistake. Yankess need to sweep out the barn for a semi-rebuild. Fire Boone is step 1. Hicks, Rizzo, Donaldson and the LF need to go.

Judge to the Doyers is already heating up.

Not sure I’d back up the GDP of Italy to sign Judge. Smacks of career year and big regression. Particularly if he changes leagues.

Plus Chad Curtis with the Yankees back in 1996 and Melky Cabrera in those early 2010’s Giants teams……….YOU DON’T ALWAYS NEED A RAVISHING GOOD LOOKING OUTFIELDER TO WIN A WORLD SERIES, QUE NO? Or we can just keep on flailing at failed high draft picks that become utility role guys and then trade them to another team who actually wants to win (2021 Braves and 2022 Phillies) while our feckless chubby GM and indifferent owner does nothing. Hail 20 janitor drafts!!!!

I can too but what if your gut feel abilities suck? ( Try not to suck Joe) . As well as Maddon’s shtick has worked in his managerial career his bullpen usage “gut feel” really hasn’t.
From what I can tell, Bochy has a better ability to manage and utilize his pen than Maddon or Scioscia ever did for that matter.

I watched everything but the last inning of that 18 inning game versus Seattle. I was amazed by how many quality arms came out of the Houston bullpen. It seemed that they all threw 98 and had two something ERAs. I don’t like it but I also don’t don’t see how they can miss.

The disheartening thing for we Angels fans is that Seattle was able to match Houston’s bull pen arms pretty much pitch for pitch. We have our work cut out for us in trying to climb past those two clubs to resume our rightful place on top of the division.

Nah. The reason people have trouble with that concept is because it’s wrong. We weren’t the best team in baseball that year. We were something even better. The “not best team” that beat several better teams in a post season series and won the title. It’s why division winners get little flags and it’s not now called the WAR Series of Baseball. Championships are hard to win because you have to stay super locked on whether you had 90 wins or 111 during the regular season.

The Doyers and Spankees were better teams (just, you know, don’t actually look up the Astros record) and they got a reward, cute little flags they can fly at their stadia.
