The most important thing to watch in this final stretch of games is that Trout finishes the season strong and healthy.

I very much miss the .300 hitting, base stealing and OBP God version of Trout. He’s now essentially a single/groundout – HR/SO player at this stage. Still incredibly valuable, but less well rounded.

His base stealing days are likely gone forever, but hitting .300 shouldn’t be. I’ve always felt that he takes too many down the middle 1st pitch fastballs, but I digress. I suspect the infield shift rules next season may boost his BA a bit as well.

Leave it to me to stumble upon an Angel chat forum at the tail end of another lost season.

Anyway, world events are depressing enough, so I’ll generally take an optimistic tone when opining…

I was bored so I was wondering what Trout’s WAR would be if he had the same number of PAs as Judge. He’d have 7.6 WAR. It may be a little higher because he sucked when he was playing hurt. Still, that’s not bad.

I just said I was curious what Trout’s WAR would be this year if he had a full season of PAs and it looks like it would be 7.6 WAR, maybe a little better.

That’s all I said. I don’t know what 2019 has to do with at all.

Then you dropped your pants for no reason… again… like a special needs person.

Joc Pederson has 1 WAR… Squid has 1.5 WAR. Mike Timlin has more World Series rings than Joc Pederson does. You just like him cause his name makes you tingle.

Trout finishing Healthy & Strong is a great springboard to next season, but I do miss the .300 hitting OBP terror from his earlier years.

He’s now essentially a single/groundout –
HR/SO player. Still amazing, but less well rounded.

Rengifo proving himself to be a solid & versatile starter has been one of the “good” outcomes this season.

Ditto for Ward in RF.

I’m comfortable with heading into next season with both guys penciled in.

As for the offseason, I think we have sufficient talent & depth heading into FA, so I probably wouldn’t break the bank on any FA starter.

That said, the only chance we have at retaining Shohei is to field a winning team. With that in mind, I think we should pursue the following in FA:

A proven and productive 1B, Corner Outfielder, Cather and more bullpen arms.

Sign guys that have a track record of consistency and if their on the wrong side of 30, go with 2-3 year deals versus 5-6 years.

Proven & consistent players around our core of Shohei, Trout, Rengifo & Ward is the way to go and hopefully the Goddess of health will shine on Rendon next season.

Lot of squib hits today. Still need to acquire a 1st baseman and LF. O’Hoppe can take over behind the plate.
