LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Minor Moves

There are a lot of minor moves happening around baseball in advance of September 1. The Angels revealed their 2023 Spring training Schedule.

Right hander Tyler Duffy got a minor league contract with the Yankees. They also signed Chi Chi Gonzalez, Jacob Barnes, and Wilking Rodriguez to minor league deals.

The Baltimore Orioles signed Jesus Aguilar to a minor league contract and they selected the contract of top prospect Gunnar Henderson.

The Phillies acquired right hander Vinny Nittoli from the Blue Jays in exchange for minor league catcher Karl Ellison. They also gave a minor league deal to Chris Devenski.

The Mets outrighted veteran infielder Yolmer Sanchez to Triple-A Syracuse. Mets infielder Brett Baty will have thumb surgery. His season may be over.

The Red Sox acquired Taylor Broadway, a minor league reliever, from the White Sox. He was the player to be named later for the Jake Diekman trade. They outrighted Hirokazu Sawamura who had passed through waivers unclaimed.

The Twins claimed Austin Davis off waivers from the Red Sox.

The Kansas City Royals signed catcher Jakson Reetz to a minor league deal.

The Giants selected Andrew Knapp and designated Andrew Vasquez for assignment.

The Marlins designated Jake Fishman for assignment to make room for Trevor Rogers.

Shane McClanahan has a shoulder impingement. He went on the injured list together with Brandon Lowe, who has a triceps contusion.

Tony LaRussa is out indefinitely due to an unspecified medical condition. Bob Nightengale claims he is seeing heart specialists.

Trea Turner committed to Team USA for the World Baseball Classic.

Here is Roughned Odor doing a bat flip and home run trot on what turned out to be an out.

Wasn’t a start, it was one relief appearance in his MLB debut April 2018

15 pitches — 12 balls and three strikes, two of which were homers.

And he hasn’t been back since.

UCLA, he was around during Spring Training and was teammates with Cole and Bauer.

He had one start and was rocked. Current ERA is infinite.

Rich Hill had an infinite ERA with us – then went on to pitch well for others. Can be done.

He was offended by the word “tits” and decided to bow out due to excessive usage of the word around here. See “MiceTits” aka Maicer Izturis.

Yeah, but I don’t descend into my Jaeger and Whiteclaw spiral till Friday night. I’ll have to wait till then to test this.

Saw a notification for an article about the “AL’s best team” and was curious who it was. Gosh dang I hate the freaking Astros. Once they finally start sucking again MLB will do some additional realignments and we’ll get stuck in the same division as the newly resurgent ultra-Rockies or something. Sigh.

It seems that the wide participation of stars will lift the status of this tournament and can attract casual fans too.
With DR also stacked and Shohei joining the Japanese team, it should be fun.

Hopefully. I went to the USA vs. Italy game at Chase Field in 2013 and it was a blast.

I’ve already reserved my AirBnB for the next one. Spring Training games will likely be pretty packed that weekend as I’m sure lots of fans will do the same.

So if you are planning on heading out there, book your place early.

We are currently drafting 9th in case you were wondering…..As of today nobody has bought Arte out, dang…..Do you miss Walsh yet?…..Think you can better without the great defensive players that are challenged withe bat until you don’t have them, then you miss what they can bring. Defense in Baseball is under rated…..Will Max ever be a hitter again? Maybe…….Adell made a play in LF last night that went over looked by coming in a a ball that faded right, and he ran it down and, on the run, caught it at his knees. I say it again, he is good with a ball hit in front of him……Mikey plays the outfield like an old man at age 31, sad really…..If Judge hits 60 HRs then all the real top seasonal HR hitters will be Yankees, Ruth, Maris, and Judge. No McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds are frauds and cheats…..

When Ohtani, Trout and Fletch hit and produce, this team can score enough runs to win – particularly if the starters pitch well and the bullpen holds up. The problem is everything has to go right for all of those things to happen – there is no margin for error. The team is fine – in fact good – when all of those things happen. The problem is you cannot expect all of those things to happen consistently.

All they need to do is play good enough until last out or until also something good happens for you.

God I love that someone finally preserved this for future generations. Remember when we let Mota go and people on this site were so erect with Arte rage that they were holding up “the loss” of Mota as some egregious trespass by ol’ CheapnEvil?

I do.

How the hell do you fire a national, dare I say WORLDWIDE, Galactic TREASURE such as Jose Mota? Gotta be a Crappino/Not-so-Kuhl move.

If they weren’t a cabal of cousin spooning, little girl sniffing, coke off strippers ass snorting, bribe taking and giving, crack smoking Christian billboard salesmen they would have been able to see the true value of a man like Mota.

Exactly.

A team with depth has multiple guys capable of stepping up and being a big part of a win. The Angels don’t have that.

After number 5 in the order it drops off alot. If Rendon comes back healthy next year and Walsh returns to prior form it would really be good to drop Rengifo in the lineup to like #8 or #9. That would increase the chance for Fletch, Ohtani and Trout to come up with guys on base and really improve the strength of the order.

That was one thing that made those teams circa 2009, 2010 good, namely that Aybar was hitting at the bottom of the lineup and “turning it over” for the guys at the top.

Yes. I think Rengifo is a good “bottom lead off” hitter candidate. It will also be a sign that the team’s not totally eaten by injury and failure if we can put him down there.

And we had bench guys who could actually hit as well. Maicer Izturis would have been a godsend most of this year yet was a rotational piece back then.

I have a great off season piece penciled out that will get me loved or hated but will lengthen the lineup.

Dude. Had no idea Maicer was mentioned further down the thread. Good ole “Boy King” “the Pharaoah” “MiceTits” “Mighty Maicer” … LOVED that dude and you gotta love a dude who has like 7 nicknames and can play anywhere on the diamond. I think he was a switchy too. Crazy good and underrated player.

Plus he had a crazy family story in that he was weeks older/younger than his brother Cesar – truly “a brotha from anotha motha” kinda story with a busy dad.

Speaking of off season stuff…. because we are getting a new owner, can we do our “What would Perry do?” exercises with no budget limit?

That would be fun….
 😀

Eh. Fun like playing dodgeball with third graders. The limitations are what provide the challenge. The challenge is what makes it fun.

Besides, we probably won’t have a new owner over this next off season…. at least not until well into it. My guess is, even if they move fast, January or February would be early.

Unless, somehow Arte and his consultant already had a couple interested parties in motion.

Line-up needs to be lengthened with talent, currently too many non-contact, low .200 hitters. My biggest fear of falsehoods that lurk into Perry’s feeble mind that this is a good club when it is not.

Now we can finally return to the important stuff at hand, keeping the march to Lotto Five Alive. Tina Delgado is alive, alive!

Now to the more serious stuff, the look and attitude by Cole after serving up Ohtani’s HR was awesome…..Oh and our friend ’71 called the 3-run hit before it happened, sweet….. Sandoval had a really good game last night and had some run support and pitched 7 great innings…..Does anyone look less like an MLB player than Falcon (Ford)……Boy oh boy, can our bullpen make you sit up and take notice, Herget got my undivided attention last night….. Have a great day folks, but I know you will 🙂
