Angels Sweeping Postgame

Today Tucker Davidson went up against Ross Stripling in a very early Sunday day game.

Inning 1

David Fletcher and Mike Trout made quick outs but Shohei Ohtani got on board with a two out knock. Luis Rengifo then grounded out to end the top of the first inning. Davidson got George Springer to pop up. Vlad Guerrero Jr. struck out looking. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. struck out swinging to end the first.

Inning 2

Mike Ford came up and singled on a liner to center. Jo Adell then made an out hitting the ball to center. Ryan Aguilar singled on a very sharp line drive to right. Kurt Suzuki hit a fly ball out to left. Andrew Velazquez ended the top of the second inning with a grounder to second base. Alejandro Kirk struck out swinging. Bo Bichette walked. Teoscar Hernandez struck out swinging. Matt Chapman singled on a grounder to Velazquez to put men at first and second with two outs. Whit Merrifield then flied out to Jo Adell in left.

Inning 3

David Fletcher struck out swing in the top of the third. Mike Trout popped out to first. Shohei Ohtani got a two out single to bring up Luis Rengifo who got a two out two run homer to put the Angels on top. This will be our first video clip today.

Mike Ford singled again. Jo Adell then grounded out to third baseman Matt Chapman. Danny Jansen walked to start off the Blue Jays half of the third inning. George Springer popped out to David Fletcher. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounded into a double play to end the inning. 2-0 Angels.

Inning 4

Ryan Aguilar struck out swinging to lead off the fourth inning. Kurt Suzuki then homered to left to make it 3-0 Angels.

Andrew Velazquez grounded out to first to make it two away. David Fletcher also grounded out to first. For the Blue Jays, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. started things off by striking out swinging. Alejandro Kirk lined out to second base. Bo Bichette drew a two out walk. Teoscar Hernandez also walked to send Bo Bichette to second. Matt Chapman doubled to score Bichette. Whit Merrifield thankfully grounded out to Fletcher to end the fourth inning. 3-1 Angels.

Inning 5

Mike Trout struck out on a foul tip. Today just hasn’t been his day. Shohei Ohtani grounded out softly to the catcher. Luis Rengifo struck out swinging. The Blue Jays sent up Danny Jansen who doubled on a sharp liner to Jo Adell. George Springer drew what appeared to be an unintentional intentional walk. Andrew Wantz came in to replace Tucker Davidson on the mound. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. came up with two men on and no outs and grounded into a force out to put men at first and third with one out. The Angels challenged the play at first, but to no avail. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. gave the Angels a gift double play to end the fifth inning. Still 3-1 Angels.

Inning 6

Mike Ford came up in the top of the sixth and promptly flied out to Teoscar Hernandez. Jo Adell struck out swinging at three straight pitches. Ryan Aguilar did the same. Jaime Barria came in now to replace Andrew Wantz. Alejandro Kirk flied out to Mike Trout. Bo Bichette hit a line drive single, also to Mike Trout. Teoscar Hernandez also singled to Mike Trout. Matt Chapman hit a fly ball out to right field and Bo Bichette was able to advance to third. Luckily Whit Merrifield provided the much needed third out to end the sixth inning.

Inning 7

Adam Cimber came in to pitch for Ross Stripling. He first faced Kurt Suzuki who grounded out. Andrew Velazquez struck out swinging. Then David Fletcher singled to left to put a man on with two outs. Mike Trout finally got one he liked and doubled in David Fletcher. 4-1 Angels.

Tim Mayza came in to replace Adam Cimber on the mound. Shohei Ohtani homered to left to make it 6-1 Angels. Luis Rengifo flied out to George Springer, who managed to catch it this time.

Danny Jansen came up and walked to lead off the Blue Jays half of the seventh inning. George Springer flied out to Jo Adell. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounded into a force out. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. tripled in Vladdy Jr. to make it 6-2 Angels. Alejandro Kirk flied out to Mike Trout to end the inning. I try not to show too many lowlights, but Jo Adell … well, you know.

Inning 8

Trevor Richards came in to replace Tim Mayza on the mound. Mike Ford flied out to left. Jo Adell then singled to left and Magneuris Sierra came in to pinch run for him. Ryan Aguilar flied out to center. Magneuris Sierra stole second base whereupon Kurt Suzuki reached on a catching error by Vladdy Jr. to make it 7-2 Angels. Andrew Velazquez struck out swinging.

Magneuris Sierra remained in the game as the left fielder, of course. Jesse Chavez replaced Jaime Barria on the mound. Bo Bichette singled on a grounder to right. Teoscar Hernandez grounded into a force out. Matt Chapman struck out on a foul tip and Cavan Biggio came in to pinch hit for Whit Merrifield. He lined out to first to end the inning.

Inning 9

David Phelps replaced Trevor Richards on the mound. Cavan Biggio remained in the game as the second baseman. David Fletcher struck out swinging. Mike Trout chipped in a homer to make it 8-2 Angels.

Shohei Ohtani walked to bring up the mighty Rengifo who singled to put men at first and second with one out. Mike Ford grounded out but advanced the runners. Magneuris Sierra walked to load the bases for Ryan Aguilar. Yusei Kikuchi came in to pitch for Phelps. Faced with a lefty lefty matchup, Aguilar struck out to end the top of the ninth.

Gerardo Reyes came in to replace Jesse Chavez. Danny Jansen popped out to Andrew Velazquez. George Springer homered to make it 8-3 Angels. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. popped out to first to make it two away. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. singled to center. I guess Reyes decided to make things interesting. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. advanced to second on defensive indifference. Alejandro Kirk walked. Bo Bichette grounded out to Fletcher to end the game. Angels win 8-3 and sweep the Toronto Blue Jays!

I’m staggeringly relieved to see Trout hit after the reports his back condition. The other day: rips one out on a pitch low and outside the zone; today: he brings his hands in and bombs one to deep center that was on the inside, black. Wow.

Now: if he hits one up and in, out: we will have seen everything. That upper inside corner strike is his only Achilles right now.

https://twitter.com/MikeDiGiovanna/status/1563982848776093696 Manager of the great collapse of ’95. He has been a special assistant to the GM spanning at least 3 regimes. One of the best pitching coaches this organization has ever had. But The dudes 81 years old so hes probably finally had enough.

I wish him luck in retirement. My Dad retired at 82 because he wanted to retire and relax. he had 5 years of not knowing what to do with his self and was always wanting to go to work again. Just couldn’t relax and enjoy.

His son was one of the p.e. teachers at my high school and would deny it all day long. This was before you could do a quick google search.

Why did he deny being Marcel’s son, or for that matter Rene’ nephew? Should have been proud.

Or Bill’s nephew for that matter. Bill Lachemann was also a long time coach in the Angels organization that was a wiz working with catchers .

Although I always wondered why he was the one brother who didnt get a French first name.

Not too sure. This was in 99 – 2000. He would always say that his dad was a trash truck driver and then change the subject real quick.

Lot of pieces suddenly coming together again, especially at the top of the lineup.

Fletch and Trout returning helped, and Rengifo…. WOW…. ! I am so ashamed I doubted this man for 3 years….!!!!!

We are surely seeing the “good Rengifo”. Here’s hoping he can keep it going, along with “good Fletcher”. If they are for real that’ll be a big boost going forward.

I still do. He’s not a starter, maybe a Spanish speaking Chone Figgins at best. Last World Series Championships won (Austin Riley, Justin Turner, anthinee RenDone, Rafael Devers, Alex Bregman, Kris Bryant, Mike Moustakas……in other words good 3B matter!!).

Perhaps you have chosen an incorrect comparison? Figgins was an All-Star starting 3B for us.

Chone also learned Spanish to communicate with his teammates.

Silseth 6 innings, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 W, 11 K. 2 HR only hits given up today, 80 pitches 53 strikes.

Useless and often wrong opinion….he’s going to be a stud with a high grit factor.

HRs are definitely plaguing him this year especially in the show where hes averaging 2.2 HRs/9 And of fthe vaunted 2021 call to arms draft hes still the closet to a legitimate starter that we have. Theres a lot of young arms that should be ready to contribute next year (Torres, Murphy , Erla & Bush to name a few) but mostly out of the pen for us.

I don’t have a problem with a starter needing 2-3 years to develop. We haven’t drafted any “sure thing” college guys like Leiter or Rocker.

Of all the AA arms, he is the only one that stands out to me. Before his first MLB start, I said he would be better than Bachman. I think he will be good, all-star?? Not expecting it. He’s had ups and downs in AA. Just needs some more experience.

That’s what we’re good at (Utility role players, middle relievers……just not good/great SP’s or position players).
Keep up the good work finding guys who aren’t listed in any of the trade publications (Keith Law, MLB.com, BA, BD) that I’ve never heard of.

This is so like Arte Moreno. He made the right decision to not trade Rengifo for the wrong reason….. He thought the Dodgers slighted him.
